Not really a representation of reality. A troll keeps the board moving and he's captivating in the sense that he never fails to get replies. With replies the exchange of ideas (usually on one party's part, no secret the guy's actually retarded) which opens up the possibility of new threads of conversation. People genuinely hate him, so when they see him getting dunked on it's cathartic, like a heel. That's engagement, and the idea that his posts become completely ubiquitous on every thread is gross hyperbole. When the engagement is gone you get what one half of today looked like where there was no new threads and no replies for literal hours. That's a dead board, and that's the *real* point at which people start leaving
