People have been calling me smart all my life. I feel I've never really done anything to particularly seem smart but I guess I have a lot of knowledge or something?? But even still, I feel I come across as a regular guy. Yet people literally always call me smart, all around me for a while now. What are they sensing? Does it mean anything or are they just copying each other and reacting to very surface level cues and genuinely cant think for themselves? It's annoying because im genuinely just not profound and my level of thinking I feel should be the bare minimum and if you're below that then you're just straight retarded. I also dont feel others are particularly dumber than me so why would they think im so smart?
Are they just saying random shit and not thinking hard about it?

Sometimes people are just superficial, and these might just be a few general observations that could possibly be related to something you do in your daily life—which isn’t to say they’re particularly insightful, because, to be honest, people are often intelligent in various areas, but that doesn’t make them any different or less superficial, since superficiality has nothing to do with intelligence.

So you think people are mainly just reacting to surface level stuff and dont think too hard before they say shit? And they're not seeing anything particularly special?

Ketamine = NMDA antagonism = more synaptic pruning
Autism is caused by not enough synaptic pruning in childhood

It depends on the situation—yes, because people sometimes have automatic responses.

And like I said, maybe you're good at something and they shower you with compliments, but that doesn't mean you're any different

And especially among family members, if that's the case, and with people outside the family circle—sometimes, as I said, it's just an automatic act of kindness.

It means absolutely nothing. The Homo Sapien evolved with a larger brain and social structure. That social structure demands a hierachy. They either put you on top of their Smart hierachy if they value Smarts, or don't value Smarts and put you on their Smart hierachy to make you feel better. Compliments are assigned value based on who gives them. If Margaret who is considered smart by 500 smart people tells me I'm smart. I am smart.
