Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid is a 2015 ecchi action anime produced by Arms, directed by Hiraku Kaneko, the same studio behind Ikki Tousen and Elfen Lied. It ran for 12 episodes plus an OVA.
The premise: On a set of artificial islands called Mermaid, girls infected with the Armed Virus are exiled. The virus has a unique mechanic, certain girls called "Liberators" can arouse their partners ("Exters") to the point where the Exter physically transforms into a weapon, which the Liberator then wields in combat. The story follows Mamori Tokonome, a naive new arrival, and Mirei Shikishima, a cold and skilled fighter who becomes her Liberator.
