Me? Well, I've been reading old Pulps and Wodehouse. I prefer lighter reading during the sunny season.

Also, in the world of Pulps, I recommend Doc Savage and The Spider. I think The Spider is my favorite. He is like a cross between Batman and Charles Bronson

Reading Vineland right now. All the student activist stuff with the alphabet boys is so very topical in today's crazy, mixed-up world.

I've been exclusively reading the bible lately since it's not really something you juggle with other books. I've been reading the NRSV, do you guys have a preferred translation?

Wouldn't worry about translations until your 3rd or 4th reading. I'd just stick with modern english as some of the little things don't really stick out when you're reading shakespeare gobbledygook

RSV is pretty good. I like the Douay Rheims as well as it's the closest thing we have to a good English Septuagint. Orthodox Study Bible has pieces of the Septuagint spliced into the KJV, if you care about the Deuterocanon.

Ok but if anyone mentions DFW or Pinch em or Dale Carnegie, they are cursed with a highly aggressive form of syphilis

Been reading 'Good and Real', a typical stand-up-bullshitter book.
Has a few decent points, but fails spectacularly trying to explain quantum physics with no rigor and then uses that lack of rigor to back up a bunch of semantic mumbo jumbo that accomplishes some additional thought, but mostly annoyance.

What's the last book everyone finished? I read Shantaram based on manager's recommendation. Pretty entertaining but the whole "based on a true story" aspect seemed like absolute bullshit. Funny how much the dude loves India and then goes on to explain how fucking awful the country is.

I finished The Spider and the City of Doom last night. Super comfy. Loving reading the old pulps. A criminal mastermind and scientist invented a gas the caused all metals to turn to dust. He was essentially holding the world hostage but, don't you worry, the Spider! foiled and plans and killed him.
