‘They will pay a price’: Bolton says US has expanded ‘offensive cyber operations’ against Russia

The United States is ramping up cyber operations targeting Russia and other so-called adversaries, in what US National Security Advisor John Bolton says is a response to election meddling.

Speaking at the Wall Street Journal’s CFO Network conference on Tuesday, Bolton said Washington had taken steps to create “structures of deterrence” in cyberspace in order to stop interference in US elections, but what he described sounded a lot like launching a cyber war.

Under a new presidential directive, the administration has “fundamentally changed the way the United States government makes decisions about offensive cyber operations,” Bolton said, adding that the new approach has improved “capabilities across the board to engage in more offensive cyber activities.”

Though Bolton said the measures were intended to “avoid conflict,” the hawkish White House adviser couldn’t resist some public sabre rattling.

“The purpose … is to say to Russia, or anybody else that’s engaged in cyber operations against us, ‘you will pay a price,'” he said. “We will impose costs on you until you get the point.”

Bolton maintained that US efforts were largely focused on state actors – he flew down the list of usual suspects: China, Russia, Iran, North Korea – but noted some attention was being devoted to hacking in the private sector.

Perhaps the most bellicose figure in the White House on foreign policy matters, Bolton has long argued for a more hostile footing in cyberspace. In an op-ed for the Hill last year, he urged the US to launch a “retaliatory cyber campaign” against Russia, which has apparently now become policy.

The ramped up cyber offensive comes as Chinese telecom Huawei tussles with Washington over accusations of technology theft and spying, while Democrats in Congress push ahead with investigations into alleged Russian election interference, and whether the president obstructed the special counsel probe into the so-called meddling.

Rep. Ratcliffe: DOJ Letter Says US Attorney Durham is Investigating False Statements, FISA Abuse, Leaks – Also UK and Aussie Intel Under Review

As TGP’s Cristina Laila reported earlier a new letter from the Justice Department addressed to Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) reveals John Durham’s investigation into Spygate is much larger than previously known.

AG Barr’s review of the FISA abuses and surveillance against Trump’s campaign is “broad in scope and multifaceted,” according to the DOJ letter.

The letter to Nadler, penned by Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd, indicates Fusion GPS, foreign intelligence services and non-governmental organizations and individuals are all a target of US Attorney John Durham’s investigation into the origins of Spygate.

On Monday night FOX News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett and former Special Counsel Ken Starr joined Sean Hannity to discuss Attorney General Barr’s letter to Nadler.

Gregg Jarrett told Sean,

“What struck me was that it said non-government which means Glenn Simpson at Fusion GPS, Nellie Ohr at that same company. It also means the Democratic National Committee and the Hillary Clinton Campaign who were involved with paying for the phony dossier.”

Fmr Senator Murdered in Her Home After Reportedly Uncovering Gov’t Child Trafficking Ring

A former state senator from Arkansas was gunned down at her home just before she was reportedly going to blow the whistle on a government-run child trafficking ring.

A former Arkansas state senator, Linda Collins-Smith was found murdered in her home last week in Pocahontas, Arkansas. According to reports, Collins-Smith was closing in on a child trafficking ring which was being run by the Arkansas government.

According to police, last week, Collins-Smith was shot and killed outside of her home in Pocahontas, about 130 miles northeast Little Rock. She died of a gunshot wound and her body was found wrapped in a blanket. Her death is being investigated as a homicide. No other information has been publicly presented.

According to CD Media:

A verified source close to Collins-Smith told CD Media that she was about to go public with incriminating information on sitting judges in Arkansas, who were involved in taking children from poor women via the Department of Human Services (child protective services) in Arkansas and selling them to wealthy individuals. The source also disclosed that Collins-Smith believed the perpetrators were using illegal aliens to facilitate the crimes which included murdering the mothers of the stolen children.

Indeed, during her time in the Senate, Linda Collins-Smith had worked on legislation and was the primary sponsor of HB1923, which became Act 922. The bill was drafted specifically to prevent human trafficking.

A release by the National Foundation for Women Legislators acknowledged Collins-Smith work on the legislation.

Pete Buttigieg: America Under Donald Trump More Like Russia

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg criticized President Donald Trump on Tuesday for turning the United States into a country that looked more like Russia.

“Russia nationalism, xenophobia, homophobia, and repression of the press are both highly disturbing in that country and disturbingly ascendent in our own country,” Buttigieg warned.

The South Bend mayor delivered a foreign policy speech at the Indiana University Auditorium in Bloomington. His address was sharply critical of Trump and fit a sober, academic, sophisticated approach to the future that would revert back to Obama-era diplomatic efforts.

He accused Trump of acting “impulsively, erratically, emotionally” in foreign affairs, and said it was “often delivered by early-morning Tweet.”

Buttigieg also alleged that rising white nationalism was more dangerous than radical Islamic terrorism.

“In the past decade, more Americans have been killed in America by right-wing extremists than by those inspired by Al Queda and ISIS,” he said. “We need to acknowledge this threat too, and redirect appropriate resources to combat right-wing extremism and violent white nationalism.”

Buttigieg then ridiculed Trump for his efforts to secure peace with North Korea, by communicating with dictator Kim Jong-un.

“You will not see me exchanging love letters on White House letterhead with a brutal dictator who starves and murders his own people,” he said.

Buttigieg also recommitted his support for the Iran Nuclear deal with a joke about Trump’s branding.

“This was perhaps as close to a true ‘art of the deal’ as it gets,” he said, referring to the Iran nuclear deal.

He also criticized Trump for diminishing America’s moral standards, making it harder for America to stand for human rights in the world.

It’s hard to condemn crackdowns on a free president when our own president calls our own news media the enemy of the people,” he said. “It’s hard to stand for human rights abroad when we’re turning away asylum seekers at our own borders.

But Buttigieg also had criticism for Congress, urging them to “repeal and replace” the “blank check” authorization allowing the president to launch wars in various theaters overseas.

He criticized Israel for persecuting Palestinians and said it was not anti-Semitic to oppose the current “right wing” government.

Buttigieg also asserted that climate change was among the biggest threats facing the United States.

“Climate disruption is here … it is a clear and present threat,” he warned, before vowing to create a new international effort for “climate diplomacy” to save the planet from global warming.

“Rejoining Paris is just the beginning,” he said.

South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg promised, if elected president, to cut U.S. aid to Israel if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu followed through on an election promise to annex parts of Judea and Samara — the “West Bank.”

Buttigieg, delivering what was billed as his first major address on foreign policy at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, claimed that President Donald Trump had made the United States into a version of Russia. He also slammed Trump for his negotiations on denuclearization with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un — while attacking Trump for pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal. And he said that the Trump administration had neglected white supremacist terror in its focus on radical Islamic terror.

But Buttigieg — once regarded as a rare pro-Israel voice — blasted Israel as well:

The closer an ally, the more important it is that we speak truth to them. The security and survival of the democratic state of Israel has been, and continues to be, a central tenet of U.S. foreign policy, and is very much in our national interest. Which is why neither American nor Israeli leaders should play personal politics with the security of Israel and its neighbors.

Just as an American patriot may oppose the policies of an American president, a supporter of Israel may also oppose the policies of the Israeli right-wing government.

As Israel’s most powerful and most reliable ally, the United States has the opportunity to shape a more constructive path with the tough and honest guidance that friendship and fairness require. The current state of affairs cannot endure. The pressure of history and the mathematics of demography, mean that well before 2054, Israelis and Palestinians will have come to see either peace or catastrophe. A two-state solution that achieves legitimate Palestinian aspirations and meets Israel’s security needs remains the only viable way forward, and it will be our policy to support such a solution actively.

And if Prime Minister Netanyahu makes good on his threat to annex Israeli settlements in the West Bank, a President Buttigieg would take steps to ensure that American taxpayers won’t help foot the bill.

Republicans To Send Letter To Twitter Calling For Hamas Ban

Sixteen Republican congresspeople plan to send a letter to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey Tuesday encouraging the platform to ban all content promoting terror specific to Hamas, The Daily Caller has learned.

The signatories on the letter include Rep. Lee Zeldin of New York, Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Rep. Mark Meadows of North Carolina.

Foreign Terrorist Organizations “use Twitter to advance their hateful ideology and propaganda. Last month, Hamas fired approximately 700 rockets into Israel killing innocent victims. It is imperative that Twitter, a United States Company, bans designated FTOs, removing all content promoting terrorist activity,” the letter reads.

Hamas was put on the Foreign Terror Organizations list in 1997 by the State Department.

“Over the past several years, Twitter has made some progress by removing terrorist content from groups such as ISIS and Hezbollah. However, more needs to be done to eradicate the spread of all terrorist activity by designated FTOs. Hamas follows a comprehensive charter that calls for the murder of every Jew and the destruction of the State of Israel through the covenant of Jihad,” it continued.

Hamas and Israel exchanged rocket fire this spring, which was “the most expansive action Israel has taken in Gaza since 2014’s Operation Protective Edge,” Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz told Haaretz.

The letter proceeds to discuss Hamas’ propensity for “firing rockets and digging terror tunnels into Israel, murdering and kidnapping Israelis, and using women and children as human shields.” It ultimately urges Twitter to “ban senior Hamas officials and associates from Twitter who radicalize individuals to incite violence against Israelis.”

Egypt seeks to halt London auction of King Tutankhamun statue

The King's head is valued at $5 million

CAIRO – Egypt is trying to halt an auction of a 3,000-year-old stone sculpture of the famed boy pharaoh Tutankhamun at Christie's in London.

The Foreign Ministry issued a statement late on Monday saying Egypt demands the auction house provide documents proving the artifact's ownership. It says Egypt has also reached out to British authorities and the U.N. culture and education agency to stop the sale.

Christie's didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

The statue — a brown quartzite head depicting King Tut — is scheduled to be auctioned off in July and could generate more than $5 million.

King Tut ruled Egypt from 1332 to 1323 B.C. His tomb was discovered in 1922 by Howard Carter in Luxor.

Egypt is trying to bring home antiquities it considers state property.

Cop Arrested for Forcing Woman to Perform Sex Act With Her Infant to Make Child Porn

Iberville, LA — Over the past few years, the Free Thought Project has reported on utterly horrific crimes perpetrated by police officers against society’s most vulnerable. From children to the elderly, no demographic is left safe. However, a case out of Iberville Parish in Louisiana is at the top of the list for the most disturbing things we’ve ever seen. An on-duty cop forced a mother to perform oral sex on her one-year-old son — while he filmed it to make child porn — by threatening to arrest her if she refused.

Iberville Parish sheriff’s deputy Shaderick Jones was serving an arrest warrant last week at the home of Iyehesa Todd, 26. According to St. Gabriel Police Chief Kevin Ambeau, while serving the warrant, Jones told Todd that he would not arrest her if she performed the act for “his fantasy.”

Disgustingly enough, Todd followed through with it as Jones made the video.

As the Advocate reports:

St. Gabriel police officers arrested Jones Friday night, according to Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi. Ambeau said his team coordinated with the Port Allen Police Department and the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office to execute a search warrant for Jones’ residence around 11:45 p.m.

Authorities seized several electronic devices and arrested Jones, Ambeau said. Based on witnesses who had access to the devices, Ambeau said, authorities have proof Jones was in possession of pornography. It was unclear if any of the images on those devices, which have not yet been inspected by investigators, involved children.

GPS tracking in Jones’ sheriff’s cruiser places him at Todd’s residence at 3 p.m. Thursday, Ambeau said, while Jones was still on duty. He remained at the residence for about two hours, though he ended his on-duty shift at 4 p.m.

The video was filmed at 4:38 p.m.

“He had been off duty for 30 minutes,” Ambeau said. “Still in uniform.”

After Jones was arrested, Todd was arrested shortly after and booked into the Iberville Parish jail on first-degree rape and incest charges. Jones was booked into West Baton Rouge Parish Detention Cener on principal to first-degree rape, malfeasance in office and pornography involving juveniles because of the video of the 1-year-old child on his cell phone, according to Ambeau.

Both of them are being held without bail.

CEOs From 180 Companies, Including Twitter And H&M, Pen Letter Opposing State Abortion Laws

CEOs from 180 companies signed on to a full-page ad in The New York Times released Monday, claiming recent restrictive abortion laws passed in states like Georgia, Alabama, and Missouri are "bad for business."

The list of CEOs includes Twitter's Jack Dorsey (though, after his name, he lists his other company, payment processor, Square) as well as the heads of Postmates, Slack, Yelp, H&M, and Tinder, as well as a handful of fashion designers and Ben and Jerry of Ben & Jerry's ice cream.

The letter claims that "it's time for companies to stand up for reproductive health care," and that restricting abortion is "bad for business," though the letter makes no real connection between the availability of abortion and the business climate of a particular state. Instead, they claim restricting "reproductive freedom" is "against our values."

States that threaten abortion, the CEOs say, threaten "the health, independence, and economic stability of our employees and customers."

"Equality in the workplace is one of the most important business issues of our time,” the ad goes on. “When everyone is empowered to succeed, our companies, our communities, and our economy are better for it.”

“Restricting access," it continues, "to comprehensive reproductive care, including abortion, threatens the health, independence and economic stability of our employees and customers. Simply put, it goes against our values, and is bad for business.”

The ACLU and Planned Parenthood rounded up the CEOs for the ad and produced the content — but without apparent regard for what any of the businesses, helmed by their own signatories, actually do or where they operate.

For starters, the statement made — that without abortion, businesses will find the health, independence and economic stability of their employees threatened — seems to imply that work-life balance is outdated, and that the CEOs and their respective companies don't value the idea of employees having a family. The only way restricting the practice of abortion ultimately affects these CEOs' bottom lines is if they have to pay out benefits for employees who choose to have their children rather than kill their children.

It's convenient financially, but flies in the face of modern feminism's demand that companies be cognizant and respectful of their female employees' choices without regard for cost.

In a statement accompanying the ad, NARAL's president, Ilyse Hogue, applauded the CEOs for "taking a stand on behalf of employees," but seemed to casually forget that employees have priorities other than the availability of a cruel "healthcare" practice.

"NARAL applauds the business leaders signing the #DontBanEquality letter for taking a stand on behalf of their employees, customers, and communities, and affirming the mainstream view that women deserve to be able to make private, personal medical decisions without politicians interfering,” her statement read.

The viral crowdfunding effort to build a wall on the southern border aimed at deterring immigrants from crossing illegally was only recently completed, but on Monday the newly installed wall suffered a major setback — a large gate built into the barrier was ordered open indefinitely by officials.

The controversial half-mile wall constructed along the US–Mexico border near Sunland Park, New Mexico, was erected earlier this month after organizers raised more than $23 million on GoFundMe, the online crowdfunding site. But We Build the Wall organizers failed to obtain the required authorization to build the barrier on federal land, cutting off access to waterways and a public monument.

"This is normally done well in advance of a construction project," said Lori Kuczmanski, a spokesperson for the International Boundary and Water Commission, the agency that addresses waterway issues between the US and Mexico. "They think they can build now and ask questions later, and that's not how it works."

In response, IBWC officials on Monday afternoon propped open a large gate installed in the wall. The gate, constructed on roughly 33 feet of federal property, had blocked officials from accessing a levee and dam, and cut off public access to a historic monument known as Monument One, the first in a series of obelisks that mark the US–Mexico border from El Paso to Tijuana.

"We're going to lock it in an open position until we come into a mutual decision on how this gate is going to operate," Kuczmanski continued.

The decision prompted a series of angry tweets from We Build the Wall founder Brian Kolfage, who claimed that "Mexico just opened all gates" through IBWC for a "mass invasion."

How NeoCon Billionaire Paul Singer Is Driving the Outsourcing of US Tech Jobs to Israel

WASHINGTON — With nearly 6 million Americans unemployed and regular bouts of layoffs in the U.S. tech industry, major American tech companies like Google, Microsoft and Intel Corporation are nonetheless moving key operations, billions in investments, and thousands of jobs to Israel — a trend that has largely escaped media attention or concern from even “America first” politicians. The fact that this massive transfer of investment and jobs has been so overlooked is particularly striking given that it is largely the work of a single leading neoconservative Republican donor who has given millions of dollars to President Donald Trump.

To make matters worse, many of these top tech companies shifting investment and jobs to Israel at record rates continue to collect sizable U.S. government subsidies for their operations while they move critical aspects of their business abroad, continue to layoff thousands of American workers, and struggle to house their growing company branches in Israel. This is particularly troubling in light of the importance of the tech sector to the overall U.S. economy, as it accounts for 7.1 percent of total GDP and 11.6 percent of total private-sector payroll.

Furthermore, many of these companies are hiring members of controversial Israeli companies — known to have spied on Americans, American companies, and U.S. federal agencies — as well as numerous members of Israeli military intelligence as top managers and executives.

This massive transfer of the American tech industry has largely been the work of one leading Republican donor — billionaire hedge fund manager Paul Singer, who also funds the neoconservative think tank American Enterprise Institute (AEI), the Islamophobic and hawkish think tank Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC), and also funded the now-defunct Foreign Policy Initiative (FPI).

Singer’s project to bolster Israel’s tech economy at the U.S.’ expense is known as Start-Up Nation Central, which he founded in response to the global Boycott, Divest and Sanctions (BDS) movement that seeks to use nonviolent means to pressure Israel to comply with international law in relation to its treatment of Palestinians.

This project is directly linked to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who in recent years has publicly mentioned that it has been his “deliberate policy” to have former members of Israel’s “military and intelligence units … merge into companies with local partners and foreign partners” in order to make it all but impossible for major corporations and foreign governments to boycott Israel.

In this report, MintPress identifies dozens of former members of an elite Israeli military intelligence unit who now hold top positions at Microsoft, Google and Facebook.

Singer’s nonprofit organization has acted as the vehicle through which Netanyahu’s policy has been realized, via the group’s close connections to the Israeli PM and Singer’s long-time support for Netanyahu and the Likud Party. With deep ties to Netanyahu, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), and controversial tech companies — like Amdocs — that spied on the American government, this Singer-funded organization has formed a nexus of connections between the public and private sectors of both the American and Israeli economies with the single goal of making Israel the new technology superpower, largely at the expense of the American economy and government, which currently gives $3.2 billion in aid to Israel annually.

Seeding American tech

The connections between SUNC and Unit 8200 are troubling for more than a few reasons, one of which being that Unit 8200, often likened to the U.S.’ NSA, closely coordinates with Israel’s intelligence agency, the Mossad, and is responsible for 90 percent of the intelligence material obtained by the Israeli government, according to its former commander Yair Cohen. Cohen told Forbes in 2016, that “there isn’t a major operation, from the Mossad or any intelligence security agency, that 8200 is not involved in.” For obvious reasons, the fact that an organization founded by an American billionaire is actively promoting the presence of former military intelligence officers in foreign companies, specifically American companies, while also promoting the transfer of jobs and investment to that same country, is very troubling indeed.

Particularly troubling is the fact that, since SUNC’s founding, the number of former Unit 8200 members in top positions in American tech companies has skyrocketed. Based on a non-exhaustive analysis conducted by Mintpress of over 200 LinkedIn accounts of former Israeli military intelligence and intelligence officers in three major tech companies, numerous former Unit 8200 alumni were found to currently hold top managerial or executive positions in Microsoft, Google and Facebook.

At Microsoft, managers for at least 15 of the company’s products and programs — including Microsoft’s lead managers for engineering, product strategy, threat analytics and cloud business intelligence — publicly listed their affiliation with Unit 8200 on their LinkedIn accounts. In addition, the general manager of Microsoft’s Israeli Research and Development Center is also a former member of Unit 8200. In total, of the 200 accounts analyzed, 50 of them currently worked for Microsoft.

Similarly, at Google, 28 former Unit 8200 members at the company were identified from their LinkedIn accounts. Among them are Google’s Engineering Director, its strategic partner manager, two growth marketing leads, its lead technical manager, and six product and program managers, including Google’s manager for trust and safety search.

Facebook also has several Unit 8200 members in prominent positions, though fewer than Google and Microsoft. MintPress identified at least 13 Unit 8200 alumni working for Facebook, including its director of engineering, lead manager for express wi-fi, and technical program manager. Notably, Facebook has spent the last several years collaborating with Israel’s government to censor Israel’s critics.

Of course, there is likely much more influence of Unit 8200 on these companies than this non-exhaustive analysis revealed, given that many of these companies acquired several Israeli start-ups run by and staffed by many Unit 8200 alumni who subsequently went on to found new companies and start-ups a few years or shortly after acquisition. Furthermore, due to the limitations of LinkedIn’s set-up, MintPress was not able to access the complete list of Unit 8200 alumni at these three tech companies, meaning that the eye-opening numbers found were generated by a relatively small sample.

Google CEO prepares increased crackdown on controversial content — even if it 'doesn't exactly violate policies'

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has signaled that YouTube has plans to expand its crackdown on controversial content into areas including what the organization refers to as "borderline content."

Pichai made the remarks in an Axios interview published Sunday. The interview was purportedly conducted prior to YouTube's official announcement of a new policy cracking down on controversial content.

One person impacted by the move was Blaze Media's conservative commentator Steven Crowder. YouTube demonetized Crowder's channel after a Vox employee complained that Crowder had been using homophobic language.

What are the details?

During the interview, Pichai said that the plan for banishing controversial content on Google-owned YouTube is ever-evolving.

"Look," he said, "we aren't quite where we want to be," and noted that Google itself "[ranks] content based on quality."

"[W]e are bringing that same notion and approach to YouTube so that we can rank higher quality stuff better and really prevent borderline content," Pichai added.

So, uh, what's 'borderline content?'

"Borderline content," according to Pichai, is "content which doesn't exactly violate policies, which need to be removed, but which can still cause harm."

Google, said Pichai, "rank[s] content based on quality." They plan to apply that same approach to YouTube. "And so we are bringing that same notion and approach to YouTube so that we can rank higher quality stuff better and really prevent borderline content," he said.

Pichai also seemed to indicate that YouTube isn't even sure what hate speech is and is not, calling the move a "societal problem," because "we need better frameworks around what is hate speech, what is not, and how do we, as a company, make those decisions at scale and get it right without making mistakes."

In a Wednesday statement, YouTube updated its rules of conduct.

"YouTube has always had rules of the road, including a longstanding policy against hate speech," YouTube said in a statement. "Today, we're taking another step in our hate speech policy by specifically prohibiting videos alleging that a group is superior in order to justify discrimination, segregation or exclusion based on qualities like age, gender, race, caste, religion, sexual orientation or veteran status."
