During a late-night council meeting in the Jabal al-Sheikh region, Druze dignitaries expressed their determination to prevent extremist rebels from infiltrating their territory, the Jewish Press reported.

The Druze are an ethnoreligious group constituting approximately 3-4% of Syria’s population, predominantly inhabiting the southwestern region known as Jabal al-Druze (Mountain of the Druze).

The Druze faith emerged in the 11th century as an offshoot of Isma’ili Shi’ism, incorporating elements from various religious and philosophical traditions, including Islam, Christianity, Judaism, and Greek philosophy. They believe in five divine messengers, in Abrahamic prophets including Jesus and Muhammad, and minor prophets including Ali Ibn Abi Talib, Plato, and Socrates.

This syncretic belief system emphasizes monotheism and the unity of God. The Druze community is known for its secrecy regarding religious practices and does not accept converts; one must be born into the faith to be considered Druze.

In a recent assembly in Hader, a Druze village in Syria’s Jabal al-Sheikh region, community leaders expressed their intent to resist the encroachment of jihadist forces and proposed annexation to the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights. Out of the approximately 55,000 Israelis living in the Golan Heights, roughly 24,000 are Druze, per the Jewish Press.

According to a series of eight interim reports obtained by the author in November 2024, the Department of Defense (DOD) engaged in a longitudinal SARS-CoV-2 (coronavirus) seroprevalence study of 29,000 members of the U.S. military between May 2020 and June 2021. Active, Guard, and Reserve components were included in the study.

Each document is marked “For Official Use Only” or “Controlled Unclassified Information” in a preventative measure to avoid being released outside of DOD.

Despite the risk, the revealing documents were provided to the author by an unnamed military whistleblower.

Seroprevalence can be defined as the percentage of a population who have the presence of neutralizing antibodies in their blood, showing they have been exposed to a virus or other infectious agent.

A seroprevalence study can be a helpful indicator of the development of herd immunity, which occurs when a large portion of a population becomes immune to a disease through infection or vaccination, making it difficult to spread.

According to one peer-reviewed article published by The Cureus Journal of Medical Science, “Several analysts predict the criterion at 60-70% of the community acquiring immunity from immunization or recent infection with the [coronavirus] pathogen.”

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), estimated that the vaccination of 70 to 85 percent of the U.S. population would be required to obtain coronavirus immunity.

Interestingly, leaked documents reveal an overall seroprevalence rate in specimens collected from service members between May and June 2020 was 2.88%. A year later, between the months of May 2021 and July 2021, the seroprevalence rate had risen exponentially, surpassing 70 percent.

Similarly, in specimens collected between May and June 2020, the presence of neutralizing antibodies was observed in 1.58 percent of the sample population.

We are not going to fix the world with science, and we are not in charge.

We cannot prevent future elite assaults of this kind. We can only delay and dampen the next round by punishing those responsible, to the best of our abilities.

Responsibility for punishment is mostly individual, because virtually all the institutions are captured. Effectiveness of individual punishment relies in part on a sufficiently accurate perception of reality, which is a continuous challenge.

Free speech (with or without permission) exists so that we can punish with words, images, disclosures, logic… and , yes, ridicule and humiliation; and so we can catalyze individual resistance and organizations of opposition. A Supreme Court showdown over free speech looms as Dr. Gill challenges medical regulators' power to silence dissenting voices.

A Canadian doctor who was censored for discussing Covid topics during the pandemic is taking her legal battle to the country’s Supreme Court, in a bid to have free speech restrictions imposed on her finally removed.

Dr. Kulvinder Kaur Gill made the decision after the Ontario Court of Appeal ruled to uphold three “cautions” she received for tweets opposing what she considered to be harmful Covid lockdowns, published in August 2020.

These cautions were issued by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) in February 2021. The state’s medical regulator in 2020 warned medical professionals that the opinions they express should be in line with whatever the government or public health institutions decide is the correct information.

That included lockdowns, which Gill openly criticized early on, and continues to believe were ineffective in dealing with the pandemic. Besides her opinion, Gill also offered what her legal counsel says is “ample evidence” to CPSO to support her stance on the ineffectiveness of lockdowns.

As for the cautions, the doctor believes CPSO used them to censor her right to free expression, guaranteed by Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Twitter, where she posted her thoughts on the situation developing in 2020, has in the meantime become X, and this social platform is now supporting her by covering the legal costs, as she continues her effort to appeal against CPSO-imposed speech restrictions.

Those costs amounted to $6,000 as the lower court ruled to uphold the regulator’s decisions that targeted Gill in 2021.

Gill expressed her gratitude to X and Elon Musk for the support, and provided links about the details of the case in a post, saying that to “first do no harm” as a physician meant opposing lockdowns -- and that this triggered a 5-year “unjust journey” for her.

“The growing overreach of regulators into monitoring the speech of professionals on social media has become a matter of national concern to the public, which loses the benefit of hearing a variety of opinions when professionals’ speech is chilled out of fear of punishment,” Gill’s lawyer Lisa Bildy said in a statement.

According to Bildy, her client spoke against lockdowns and other harmful Covid-era mandates aligning evidence-based concerns and her conscience -- rather than obeying CPSO’s “edict” to align with whatever the authorities decided were the right measures.

The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies passed a bill on Thursday containing provisions allowing the chemical castration of individuals convicted of pedophilia.

The chemical castration provisions were introduced as an amendment to a broader piece of legislation that calls for the creation of a national registry of pedophiles. The amendment was reportedly introduced by lawmaker Ricardo Salles of the libertarian Novo party, who argued that the state has the duty to adopt “firm and effective measures to prevent the recurrence of these crimes.”

The bill, reportedly passed with 267 yeas to 85 nays, was sent to the Brazilian Senate for debate.

If approved by the Senate and signed into law, authorities will create a national “pedophile registry” that will include the convicted person’s information and photograph. The registry will be managed by the National Council of Justice (CNJ) and will be publicly available on the internet.

George Stephanopoulos and ABC News are being forced to pay $15 million out to President-elect Donald Trump in a settlement over a defamation lawsuit brought against the media network.

According to Fox News, the top anchor as well as ABC will have to shell out the $15 million after Stephanopoulos claimed that Trump was "liable for rape" during an interview with Nancy Mace.

"ABC News and George Stephanopoulos regret statements regarding President Donald J. Trump made during an interview by George Stephanopoulos with Rep. Nancy Mace on ABC’s This Week on March 10, 2024," an apology from the network stated.

The settlement agreement stated, “ABC shall cause a transfer in the amount of fifteen million U.S, dollars to be made to a Presidential foundation and museum to be established by or for Plaintiff, as Presidents of the United States of America have established in the past, in full settlement and satisfaction of Plaintiff's Released Claims.”

The agreement also required that ABC issue the apology over the claims made by Stephanopoulos in an editor's note on an article published on March 10, 2024. The settlement was publicly disclosed on Saturday to reveal the payment to not only Trump, but also $1 million in legal fees to Trump’s attorney.

When Mace appeared on the network with Stephanopoulos, he asked her how she could endorse Trump when "judges and two separate juries have found him liable for rape and for defaming the victim of that rape."

He repeated the claim 10 times on air with Mace when the jury had actually ruled Trump was liable for "sexual abuse" in the case of E. Jean Carroll. The settlement between Trump and ABC News came after Trump as well as Stephanopoulos were ordered to sit down for depositions in the lawsuit.

Ghana has upgraded its border management capabilities with the introduction of a biometric-based system to facilitate immigration controls.

The launch of the system which comes with high level security, transparency, and efficiency at all points of entry, was accompanied by the unveiling of e-gates at Terminal 3 of the country’s principal airport -- the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra.

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who presided over the launching ceremony early this month, said the rollout of these facilities mark a “fundamental leap forward” in the country’s border management apparatus.

The project has been ongoing for years, with Bawumia explaining it has taken four years since Margins Group was contracted, according to The Ghana Report. Gemalto installed biometric gates at KIA in 2018 under an $18 million contract, prior to becoming Thales. But as a World Bank document from 2019 shows, the e-gates needed to be moved from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3, adding several million dollars more to the project’s overall cost. Margins Group has also worked with Gemalto (Thales) on smart cards for the banking industry.

Margins Group makes the new Ghana Card, which functions as a travel document in some situations, and therefore will be read by the biometric gates. The gates scan the travellers’ ID document to open a first set of doors, and perform a biometric match to open a second set, similar to models made by Thales.

Bright Simons, VP of think tank Imani Africa, writes for MyjoyOnline.com that Thales completed an installation of gates in 2020, and that the total project cost has ballooned to $240 million.

“The global travel landscape is evolving rapidly, with innovations such as biometric e-gates and Digital Travel Credentials becoming the new standard. Ghana has embraced these global advancements, integrating biometric verification and Digital Travel Credential technologies into a single platform,” the VP said during the launching ceremony as reported on his website.

Voluntary euthanasia in Canada led to more than 15,000 deaths in 2023, according to a government report.

The procedures made up 4.7 percent of deaths in Canada last year, new government data shows, according to the BBC.

The report put the mean age of those who died via assisted suicide at just above 77.

About 96 percent of patients had what the report called “reasonably foreseeable” deaths due to cancer or other conditions.

The report noted that patients in a minority of cases wanted to die after a long illness they believed impacted their quality of life.

Canada legalized assisted death in 2016. Australia, New Zealand, Spain and Austria also have laws allowing people to partake in medically assisted suicide.

Canada requires two independent healthcare providers to support a patient’s request to die.

Quebec, which is home to about 22 percent of the Canadian population, accounted for about 37 percent of voluntary euthanasia deaths nationwide.

Canada created the medically assisted dying process for the terminally ill, but expanded the program to include people who believe their quality of life is severely impacted by an illness. They were planning to include the mentally ill this year, but delayed that step amid concerns about the scope of the expansion.

After decades on the outs with environmentalists and regulators, nuclear power is being heralded as a key component for a “net zero” future of clean, reliable energy. Its promise is likely to fall short, however, due to some hard realities. As North America grapples with the challenge of providing secure, affordable and sustainable energy amidst soaring electricity demand, it is time to accept this fact: natural gas remains the most practical solution for powering our grid and economy.

Nuclear power’s limitations are rooted in its costs, risks and delays. Even under ideal circumstances, building or restarting a nuclear facility is arduous. Consider Microsoft’s much-publicized plan to restart the long-dormant Unit 1 reactor at Three Mile Island in Pennsylvania. This project is lauded as proof of an incipient “nuclear revival”, but despite leveraging existing infrastructure it will cost US$1.6 billion and take four years to bring online.

This is not a unique case. Across North America, nuclear energy projects face monumental lead times. The new generation of small modular reactors (SMRs), often touted as a game-changer, is still largely theoretical. In Canada -- Alberta in particular – discussions around SMRs have been ongoing for years, with no concrete progress. The most optimistic projections estimate the first SMR in Western Canada might be operational by 2034.

The reality is that nuclear energy cannot scale quickly enough to meet urgent electricity needs. Canada’s power grid is already strained, and electricity demand is set to grow significantly, driven by electric vehicles and enormous data centres for AI applications. There’s no doubt about it: Donald Trump’s threat of a blanket 25% tariff on Canadian goods (to be established if the Canadian government fails to take sufficient action to combat drug trafficking and illegal crossings over our southern border) would be catastrophic for our nation’s economy. More than $3 billion in goods move between the U.S. and Canada on a daily basis. If enacted, the Trump tariff would likely result in a full-blown recession.

It falls upon Canada’s leaders to prevent that from happening. That’s why Justin Trudeau flew to Florida two weeks ago to point out to the president-elect that the trade relationship between our countries is mutually beneficial.

This is true, but Trudeau isn’t the best person to make that case to Trump, since he has been trashing the once and future president, and his supporters, both in public and private, for years. He did so again at an appearance just the other day, in which he implied that American voters were sexist for once again failing to elect the nation’s first female president, and said that Trump’s election amounted to an assault on women’s rights.

Consequently, the meeting with Trump didn’t go well.

Pandemic and economic woes erode Canadian pride and national attachment: poll

Canadians are less proud of and less attached to their country than they ever have been, with levels plummeting in recent years.

Poll results released by the Angus Reid Institute on Friday highlighted that the years following the pandemic have muddied the waters.

“The years since the onset of COVID-19 have been a well-documented period of division and discord in this country, with Canadians expressing concerns about the lack of a “middle” option politically, an unwillingness from governments to work together for the people, (and) weakening compassion and growing space between Canadians,” reads the poll.

In 1985, 78% of Canadians said they were “very proud” to be Canadian. This saw a slow but consistent fall between 1985 and 2003 to 68%. By 2016, the year after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took office, the percentage had fallen to 52%. By 2024, this value fell off a cliff, reaching a mere 34%.

The study attributed much of the decline to the pandemic.

“Two years after the first COVID-19 lockdowns, 82% of Canadians said the pandemic had ‘pulled people further apart,’ while 61% said Canadians’ level of compassion for one another had grown weaker,” reads the report.

However, many other contributing factors were highlighted. Among them were provinces feeling they were getting a “raw deal” from the confederation, as evidenced by the governments of Alberta and Saskatchewan implementing Sovereignty Acts to stop federal government overreach. Continue…

The stated rationale for proposals to alter completely how civilization is fueled is the need for an “insurance policy” against future climate catastrophes. In that framing, the climate-fearful argue that some possibility of consequential future harms warrants the “responsible” decision to “buy” insurance now. But this often-argued “insurance” construct assumes that we know enough to say that the consequences of future climate change justify paying for the insurance---and collaterally, that we know the “insurance” itself will be affordable.

Our country today faces a grave challenge. The incoming administration in the United States is pursuing a policy of aggressive economic nationalism, including a threat of 25 per cent tariffs.

We need to take that threat extremely seriously. That means keeping our fiscal powder dry today, so we have the reserves we may need for a coming tariff war. That means eschewing costly political gimmicks, which we can ill afford and which make Canadians doubt that we recognize the gravity of the moment.

That means pushing back against ‘America First’ economic nationalism with a determined effort to fight for capital and investment and the jobs they bring. That means working in good faith and humility with the Premiers of the provinces and territories of our great and diverse country, and building a true Team Canada response.

I know Canadians would recognize and respect such an approach. They know when we are working for them, and they equally know when we are focused on ourselves.

Inevitably, our time in government will come to an end. But how we deal with the threat our country currently faces will define us for a generation, and perhaps longer. Canada will win if we are strong, smart, and united.

It is this conviction which has driven my strenuous efforts this fall to manage our spending in ways that will give us the flexibility we will need to meet the serious challenges presented by the United States.

In a letter to Trudeau posted on social media Monday morning, Freeland said rather than be shuffled to another cabinet position she will be resigning, claiming she and Trudeau have been “at odds about the best path forward for Canada.”

Freeland said she will be staying in caucus as a member of Parliament and seeking re-election.

Freeland, who’s served as finance minister since 2020, noted that in the face of Donald Trump’s proposed 25% tariffs, Trudeau’s government must focus on “eschewing costly political gimmicks” which Canadians “can ill afford.”

This comes after news that Freeland was cancelling Trudeau’s announced $250 cheque distribution scheme.

In the letter, Freeland said the move to hand out the costly rebates could “make Canadians doubt that we recognize the gravity of the moment.”

The Working Canadians Rebate would cost taxpayers $4.675 billion.

Freeland said Canada needs to push back against “America First” economic nationalism to fight for Canada’s economy.

“I know Canadians would recognize and respect such an approach. They know when we are working for them, and they equally know when we are focused on ourselves,” Freeland wrote in the letter. “Inevitably, our time in government will come to an end. But how we deal with the threat our country currently faces will define us for a generation, and perhaps longer.”

According to CBC journalist Ashley Burke, when Freeland was asked if she would deliver the fall economic statement, she said “what happens with the FES is a question for the PM’s office.”

Trudeau’s housing minister, Sean Fraser, told reporters Monday morning that he will not seek re-election in the next federal election and will also be leaving cabinet. Fraser cited “family reasons.”

The Canada Industrial Relations Board ordered Canada Post employees back to work after determining that negotiations between the Crown corporation and the federal government had reached an “impasse.”

“After two days of hearings, the CIRB has issued its ruling confirming the parties are at an impasse,” wrote the Crown corporation in a statement released Sunday.

“As a result, the CIRB has ordered employees to return to work and postal operations to begin to resume at 8 am local time on December 17, 2024.”

Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon requested the CIRB implement the order, which included an extension of the current collective agreements.

“Postal services will resume on Tuesday. The Canada Industrial Relations Board has found that Canada Post and CUPW are unlikely to reach a deal by the end of the year. The Board has therefore ordered an extension of the current collective agreements, and a resumption of operations,” said MacKinnon in a post to X.

Britain could soon fine social media giants up to 10% of their annual earnings for failing to remove illegal content

Britain’s newest online censorship law came into force on Monday, as the country’s telecoms regulator published a list of content that social media platforms must remove to avoid multi-million-pound fines.

Ofcom, the British government’s media and telecommunications watchdog, published a set of guidelines that platforms like Meta, Google, and TikTok must comply with by March or risk punishment under the Online Safety Act, which was passed in 2023.

The guidelines list a range of 130 illegal acts that these platforms must forbid and prevent, including incitement to terrorism, human trafficking, and the sharing of child sexual abuse material.

Also prohibited is the “stirring up of racial hatred” or “hatred on the basis of religion or sexual orientation,” which although ill-defined are already illegal under British law.

Some offenses are “complex,” Ofcom wrote. “They may be more about a series of interactions between users, or may involve behavior that takes place partly offline, or may involve thinking about the nature, identity or age of one or more of the users concerned.” Continue…

Two tankers carrying oil products are sinking in the Kerch Strait, the passage that connects the Black Sea to the Sea of Azov, according to the Russian Emergency Ministry.

The Volganeft 212 and the Volganeft 239 sent out distress signals and requested assistance amid high winds and powerful waves. The Russian water transport agency has said a total of 29 crew members were on board the two vessels.

According to Russian media reports, powerful waves struck the tankers several kilometers off the Black Sea coast. The Volganeft 212, carrying more than 4,000 tons of fuel oil, has run aground, and the Volgoneft 239 is drifting after sustaining damage.

Emergency rescue helicopters have flown response teams to the Kerch Strait area to assist the vessels. Their efforts, however, have been hindered by worsening weather.

A rescue boat has also been sent to the area. So far, 13 crew members from the damaged tankers have been brought to safety, and one fatality has been confirmed, the Emergency Ministry said.

Preliminary findings suggest that one of the ships broke in half after the storm caused it to run ground. An investigation has been launched, Russia’s Southern Transport Prosecutor’s Office said.

Months after the Department of Justice (DOJ) offered Boeing a plea deal to avoid criminal fraud charges, a U.S. judge threw a curveball in the case, rejecting the deal after taking issue with a “diversity and inclusion” provision in selecting a monitor to supervise the company’s safety practices, along with how the court would participate in that process.

The United States charged Boeing with fraud on Jan. 7, 2021, following the 2018 and 2019 737 MAX 8 crashes, which killed all 346 people onboard both flights. The DOJ accused the aerospace company of deliberately hiding its Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System software, which caused both planes to stall midair and fall to the ground, from Federal Aviation Administration regulators.

To avoid criminal charges, the DOJ offered Boeing a deferred prosecution agreement: a criminal settlement that required the plane manufacturer to pay a total of $2.5 billion in damages, including a $243.6 million penalty and a $500 million fund to compensate families of the 737 Max crash victims.

Boeing had to remain in compliance for three years after the agreement was signed---which ended on Jan. 7. But, two days prior, a door panel ripped off an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 9 flight midair, changing the company’s fortunes overnight and thrusting its safety practices back into public scrutiny.

After the DOJ wrote in a May 14 court filing that Boeing had violated the criminal settlement, which the company denied, Boeing then pleaded guilty to defrauding the United States over the 737 MAX 8 crashes. The plea deal would have required Boeing to pay an additional $243.6 million fine, invest $455 million into safety and compliance programs, and submit to three years of independent monitoring over its safety and quality control.

Now that U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor has rejected the deal, the aerospace giant faces several possible outcomes, aside from appealing the ruling, aviation and legal experts told The Epoch Times. Continue…

Tucked away in the Liberal government’s fall economic statement is a commitment to throw an additional $597.9 million over three years in taxpayer funds to confiscate guns from law-abiding firearms owners.

The gun buyback scheme was already projected to surpass $100 million by 2025 despite the government not collecting a single gun since the plan’s announcement.

“The government respects and will not infringe upon the rights of lawful gun owners and recognizes the fundamental importance of firearms, such as hunting rifles and shotguns, to the way of life for many rural Canadians, farmers, and Indigenous hunters,” reads the Fall Economic Statement.

However, Tracey Wilson, the vice president of public relations for the Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights, told True North that the $600 million over three years proves the Liberals aren’t serious about confiscating firearms from Canadians.

“The projected costs of the ‘buyback’ confiscation program are projected to blow into the billions with the number of guns affected,” said Wilson. “$200M a year indicates they are allocating a trickle of what would be really necessary to carry out a full confiscation.”

She added that she expects the Liberals to continue with willing retailers who’ve been sitting on inventory they can’t sell and are forced to spend money for storage and insurance.

“They’re an easy first target, and the Liberals will tout it as ‘progress,’” she said.

A Shoppers Drug Mart in Mississauga, Ontario, has to pay a woman $10,000 after it banned her from the store for lowering her COVID mask when asking for her asthma prescription.

A Canadian woman with breathing difficulties who was refused service at a pharmacy because she lowered her mask while asking for a prescription has been vindicated with a large payout after a human rights tribunal found the drugstore was in the wrong.

In a December 5, 2024, decision, adjudicator Karen Mason of the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal ruled that a Shoppers Drug Mart pharmacy in Mississauga, Ontario, had violated the rights of a woman named Kimberly Clarke in September 2021, awarding her $10,000 in compensation. The incident unfolded when Clarke, who has asthma, had lowered her mask while asking for her prescription for a Ventolin inhaler because she was having difficulty breathing.

Customers complained about Clarke’s half-wearing of her mask, which led to store staff confronting Clarke. There was a heated exchange, with Clarke claiming she was not being treated fairly. Ultimately, she was kicked out of the store and banned from ever coming back.

Mason found that the drug store staff did not properly accommodate Clarke’s needs, which was a form of discrimination that violated Ontario’s Human Rights Code. She also referenced similar cases in making her decision.

The pharmacy has been ordered to pay Clarke within 30 days of the ruling.

While Clarke was successful in getting compensation for being discriminated against, others have not been successful.

In August, LifeSiteNews reported about a Canadian man who was not allowed to board a flight to go to a medical appointment because he was not masked despite having a doctor’s note saying he could not wear a face covering. Even with the note, the man was denied compensation for damages.
