Harris’ disaster on Fox News raises the question: what else might CBS have edited out of her ’60 Minutes’ interview?

With Vice President Kamala Harris’s blundering interview with Fox News on full display, CBS News’ apparent decision to selectively edit its own interview to be more flattering of the presidential hopeful looks even more damning.

Harris has only done a handful of interviews as the Democrat replacement nominee for president, and all but the one with Fox News anchor Bret Baier have been done with media allies of Harris and her ideological ilk. A lot of them have been pretaped, giving outlets the ability to edit the footage.

Last week, CBS put on one of the most blatant attempts to deceive the American people by releasing one, and then a second totally different, answer to the same question. In the first version, Harris shared what has been widely mocked as a lengthy “word salad” answer to “60 Minutes” interviewer Bill Whitaker’s question about Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s strained relationship with the White House.

The “word salad,” however, did not make it into the edit that aired in the full interview, as it was replaced by a shorter, more succinct answer that did not appear in the first clip. The switcheroo, which appeared to be nothing less than corporate media election interference, earned scorn and even a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) complaint accusing CBS of “significant and intentional news distortion.”

“This isn’t just about one interview or one network,” Daniel Suhr, president of the Center for American Rights, which filed the complaint, said in a statement. “This is about the public’s trust in the media on critical issues of national security and international relations during one of the most consequential elections of our time.”

(NewsNation) — There has long been an understanding among officials that drug cartels operating on the southern border won’t shoot or attack law enforcement on the United States side as it might shut down the criminal organizations’ operations.

However, after infighting among rival factions of the Sinaloa cartel, which erupted after U.S. authorities apprehended two of its leaders in late July, members are now permitted to shoot at Border Patrol agents, according to an internal alert sent out to the El Paso, Texas, sector. The alert reminds agents to remain mindful of their surroundings and to approach any cartel operatives with extreme caution.

Just two days ago, the memo said, contractors working on a ranch in the Eagle Pass area of Texas’ Del Rio Sector reported taking fire from the Mexican side of the border. The workers saw several individuals in Mexico where the shots came from, per the memo, but could not determine how many people were out there. No injuries were reported from this incident.

Victor Avila, a former special agent within Homeland Security Investigation, says law enforcement should be concerned about this recent escalation, especially as one cartel has now basically split into two.

“The No. 1 reason they fight for these plazas is because these plazas are the corridors to enter the United States, whether California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and that’s the major fight because the Sinaloa cartel has controlled that whole area,” Avila said.

Customs and Border Protection said threats against law enforcement and migrants are unacceptable and that the agency takes them very seriously. It said it is remaining vigilant and taking all appropriate and necessary actions to keep employees and migrants in custody safe.

Cartel threat escalating

Cartel violence on the border has been a concern that is only increasing. Last month, a different alert went out to the Border Patrol warning of military-grade weapons being found on the Mexico side of the border near Ajo, Arizona.

NewsNation asked former president and Republican nominee Donald Trump about this during a recent interview. Trump said the troops needed to be brought in to fix the problem.

“We need a military operation. These people have become military,” Trump said. “They’re very rich, have a lot of money. They’re among the richest people, probably in the world.”

This all comes as former Mexican security chief Genaro García Luna was sentenced to over 38 years in U.S. prison for taking bribes from the Sinaloa cartel. The judge compared him to cartel boss El Chapo, saying he enabled violence and drug deaths.

A federal judge on Friday ordered the release of more than 1,800 pages of documents filed by special counsel Jack Smith in the criminal election interference case against former President Donald Trump.

The Dutch government has announced plans to ban me from nearly 30 Euro countries for ANOTHER TWO YEARS because he has ‘NOT CHANGED HIS VIEWS’. The first two-year ban ends in November. I wonder if the mainstream hijack of the ‘alternative’ media might at last have something to say about this having virtually ignored the first ban. Even Toby Young and his ‘Free Speech Union’ tittered not a word.

And yet what we have here is the most extreme of bans and censorship with the implication that I must ‘change my views’ before the ban is lifted or it will be indefinite. These views include any ‘conspiracy theories’ (which have proved to be true as this ban ironically confirms) and that the world is controlled by a network of secret societies that I call the Global Cult. The government missive also notes that I have called ‘Covid’ a hoax which it was.

They demand that I change my views on this and so much more, but they can stick it where the sun never shines – especially when the Netherlands is among the European centres of the Cult. The government – of course – presents no evidence that what I say is not true.

I am banned from all countries of the Schengen border group on the basis of banned from one means banned from all and as many other countries use the Schengen criteria for allowing entry I am actually banned from many more.

The first ban was imposed in 2022 when I accepted an invitation from a Jewish friend in the Netherlands to speak for 20 minutes at PEACE RALLY in Amsterdam. Exception to this was taken by the Dutch-based Center for Information and Documentation Israel (CIDI) which claims to be ‘dedicated to combating antisemitism and spreading awareness of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict’ (very balanced ‘awareness’ naturally). CIDI’s ‘mission’ is to ‘safeguard the rights of Jewish people to a peaceful and secure existence, in Israel and around the world’.

To get the drift of ‘CIDI’ see the US Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the Australian Anti-Defamation Commission which led the campaign to impose my ongoing ban from Australia. The ‘Commission’ was founded by the infamous B'nai B'rith that also founded the ADL. You get the picture. B'nai B'rith was founded in New York in 1843 by German Jewish immigrants and claims a ‘backstage role’ in the Rothschild-driven Balfour Declaration that led to the establishment of Israel.

The biggest party in the Dutch government is headed by fake ‘alternative’ hero and Israel-firster Geert Wilders (who blocked me on Twitter/X) and the Prime Minister installed by Wilders is the UNELECTED Dutch intelligence chief Dick Schoof. Until he became PM in July, Schoof was secretary-general of the Ministry of Justice and Security which was directly responsible for the first ban and for the planned extension.

The then hilariously termed ‘Minister of Justice and Security’, the Turkey-born Dilan Yeşilgöz, used parliamentary privilege to dub me a ‘Jew hater’ as part of an extraordinary and coordinated campaign of demonisation in which the Dutch media played a central and predictably disgraceful part.

How telling it is that while I have been banned from most of Europe the mainstream hijack of the ‘alternative’ media – including Carlson, Rogan, Brand, Owens, Musk, Oliver, etc, etc. – remained silent and while these ‘defenders of freedom’ are banned from nothing and nowhere I face another two years – indefinite in truth – banned from basically Western Europe, plus Australia and more besides.

It might be worth asking what I am saying that they are not saying which makes governments so terrified of a bloke from the Isle of Wight that they go to these lengths of what can only be described as fascism.

Oh, but then to do that we must go beyond right-wing politics, Trump, and religion into the so-called ‘far out’. And that would never do. Let’s stay safe, stay within strictly limited boundaries, play the game, and they may leave us alone.

Ethel, who died aged 96 on Thursday last week following a stroke, was surrounded by family members when she died in a Boston hospital.In total, she had 34 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren in addition to her own 11 kids, her son Robert Kennedy Jr. posted on X last week.

RFK Jr. attended the event with his wife Cheryl Hines despite his cozy relationship with Donald Trump and his phone sex affair with a journalist Olivia Nuzzi. The former presidential candidate, who has since backed Donald Trump, has reportedly been on the outs with his family due to his support for the Republican, which some Kennedy's likened to a 'betrayal.'

However that beef may have been quashed, at least slightly, when RFK Jr. and Hines attended at private ceremonyfor Ethel Kennedy on Monday in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

Hunter's Moon supermoon 2024 puts on a frightfully good show for skywatchers around the world

The largest and brightest full moon of 2024 lit up the skies of Earth on Thursday (Oct. 17), with skywatchers across the globe on hand to capture the lunar face in its full glory.

This Hunter's "supermoon" may have been over a week early for Halloween, but that wasn't going to stop it from putting out some seriously spooky vibes.

But don't worry if Halloween isn't your scene. The following lunar images capture the moon in many of its aspects during the supermoon event.

Supermoons happen because the moon's orbit isn't a perfect circle around Earth but is instead an oval, or ellipse.

That means that sometimes our lunar companion is closer to Earth, reaching its closest point to us in what is known as perigee.

Other times, it is further away, during what is known as its apogee. When the moon is close to perigee during a full moon, that's a supermoon.

On Thursday, as the full moon rose, the moon arrived at its closest point to Earth, sitting at just 221,938 miles (357,174 km) away.

There have been two supermoons in 2024 thus far, in August and September, and there will be another in November, but October's Hunter's supermoon will be the biggest and brightest of 2024.

That's because this is the closest occurrence of a perigee to a full moon.

The Hunter's supermoon was suitably imposing and Kaiju-like, as seen in Toronto, Ontario in Canada, as it was imaged by Mert Alper Dervis.

Look closely, and you will see a helicopter crossing the bright yellow lunar face, highlighting its monster-sized manifestation.

He insisted in 2019 that during his four trips on Epstein's private jet, in 2002 and 2003, he was always accompanied by a retinue of staff and Secret Service agents.

But court documents from June 2016 - part of a defamation suit filed against Maxwell by one of Epstein's victims, Virginia Roberts - paint a different picture, after another document saw Epstein accuse Clinton of 'liking them young.'

Roberts, in her filing, is seeking permission from the judge to force more people to sit for a deposition, to bolster her case.

CNN Panelist Loses It, Says Trump Wants to Deport People Who ‘Pick Your Crops’ in Delusional Rant

CNN commentator Catherine Rampell became upset at the prospect of Republican Donald Trump winning next month’s election and beginning to deport those who entered the country illegally.

On CNN’s “News Night” broadcast Wednesday, senior political commentator Scott Jennings argued that Trump’s economic, trade and immigration agenda will help the American worker.

“He’s going to extend the tax cuts. He’s going to rein in the federal government and the overburdensome regulatory state, which he can now do because of the Supreme Court, and he’s going to take on these countries that screw American workers. That’s the plan.”

“That’s not the plan. It is not the plan,” Rampell insisted, trying to cut off Jennings.

He continued, “Oh, and by the way, he’s going to crack down on immigration, to the benefit of American workers.”

Rampell, who is also a columnist for The Washington Post, fired back: “He’s going to deport 20 million people. The people who pick your crops. The people who process your meat. The people who, you know, care for your grandmother. The people who serve all sorts of critical functions in this country.”

Orionid meteor shower peaks this weekend: How to see bits of Halley's comet burn up in the night sky

Next to the Geminids of December and the Perseids of August, the most reliable of the annual displays of "shooting stars" are the October Orionids.

The Orionid meteor shower normally lasts from about Oct. 16 to 26. A few swift Orionids may appear as early as the start of October and a lingering straggler or two as late as Nov. 7.

The numbers seen by any one observer tend to reach a maximum of around 20 per hour when conditions are clear and dark and the shower radiant point near the Orion-Gemini border is well up in the sky.

Unfortunately, this year, the Orionids are going to face a formidable handicap.

When these meteors reach their peak early on Monday morning (Oct. 21), the waning gibbous moon will be in the sky almost all night long. Hence, its glare will severely hamper observations in 2024.

The meteors are known as "Orionids" because the meteors seem to fan out from a region to the north of Orion's second brightest star, the ruddy hued Betelgeuse.

Currently, Orion appears ahead of us in our journey around the sun, and has not completely risen above the eastern horizon until after 11:30 p.m. local daylight time.

These meteors are at their best during the predawn hours at around 5 a.m. — Orion will then be highest in the sky toward the south.

Since Orion's famous three-star belt straddles the celestial equator, the Orionids are one of just a handful of known meteor showers that can be observed equally well from both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

Usually Orionid meteors are normally dim and not well seen from urban locations, so it's suggested that you find a safe rural location to see the best Orionid activity.

After peaking on Monday morning, activity will begin to slowly descend, dropping back to around five per hour around Oct. 25.

Even though the moon already turned full this past week and is now on the wane, it will still have an adverse impact on this year's Orionids.

On the morning of the Orionid maximum on Monday, it will be quite close to the star El Nath in the nearby constellation of Auriga; an 80% illuminated gibbous moon, flooding the sky with its bright light.

So although the Orionids will be at their peak, many of these streaks of light will likely be obliterated by the bright moonlight.

Still, an exceptionally bright Orionid might still attract attention. Recent studies have shown that about half of all Orionids that are seen leave trails that lasted longer than other meteors of equivalent brightness.

The Orionids are often referred to as the "legacy of Halley's Comet." In fact, these tiny flecks of dust are merely the cosmic litter that the comet has left behind in space along its orbit from previous passages around the sun.

Meteoroids that are released out into space are the remnants of a comet's nucleus. All comets eventually disintegrate into meteor swarms and Halley's is well into that process at this time.

These tiny particles — mostly ranging in size from dust to sand grains — remain along the original comet's orbit, creating a "river of rubble" in space.

In the case of Halley's comet, which has likely circled the sun many hundreds, if not thousands of times, its dirty trail of debris has been distributed more or less uniformly all along its entire orbit.

When these tiny bits of comet collide with Earth, friction with our atmosphere raises them to white heat and produces the effect popularly referred to as "shooting stars."

The orbit of Halley's Comet closely approaches the Earth's orbit at two places. One point is in the early part of May, producing a meteor display known as the Eta Aquarids.

The other point comes in the middle to latter part of October, producing the Orionids.

Step outside before sunrise during this weekend and onto much of next week, and if you catch sight of a meteor, there's about a 75 percent chance that it likely originated from the nucleus of Halley's Comet.

So, for folks like me, who desire to see Halley again, but probably won't (it won't be back until the year 2061) we'll have to settle for the Orionids as a consolation prize.

Anightmare scenario played out at a Kentucky hospital as a transplant donor woke up on the operating table just as doctors prepared to remove his heart, according to witnesses.

Thomas T.J. Hoover was taken to Baptist Health Richmond Hospital in Kentucky in October 2021 after overdosing on drugs. Doctors declared him braindead and proceeded to conduct tests to see whether his organs were worth harvesting, NPR reported.

Natasha Miller was one of the people tasked with preserving organs at Baptist Health Richmond Hospital that day. She told the publication that when nurses wheeled Hoover, 36, into the room, he still seemed very much alive.

SETI tests new alien-hunting strategy, but TRAPPIST-1 planets remain silent

The latest hunt for alien signals in the TRAPPIST-1 planetary system has test-driven a new strategy that will allow astronomers to perform a more efficient, targeted search for technological extraterrestrial life in the future.

TRAPPIST-1 is a multi-planet system about 40.7 light-years away. Its seven rocky worlds, some of which lie in the habitable zone — the zone around a star where it isn't too hot nor too cold for a planet to host liquid water — are all bunched up so tightly that they transit their star every few days.

The number of planets and their relative proximity to us make the TRAPPIST-1 system a tantalizing target for the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI).

Although this latest search — in which the Allen Telescope Array of radio telescopes in California spent 28 hours in total listening to TRAPPIST-1 — did not detect any alien signals, "the point of the study was to demonstrate a more efficient search strategy, utilizing the natural orbital configuration of an edge-on multi-planet system to our advantage," Nicholas Tusay, a graduate student at Penn State University, told Space.com.

Traditionally, SETI has scanned the sky in search of powerful signals directed at us. However, after decades of not finding anything, SETI researchers are increasingly considering other strategies.

These include searching for radio leakage: incidental transmissions not intended for us, but which might leak out from a planetary system. Such transmissions could range from communications and spacecraft emissions to radar or even the equivalent of alien TV.

However, because this incidental leakage would not be transmitted with the intention of being heard light-years away, it would likely be of much lower power than deliberate signals would be.

The likelihood of us spotting such leakage by chance would thus be slim, so we need strategies that can improve the odds.

To this end, Tusay led the observations of TRAPPIST-1, which took advantage of a phenomenon called planet–planet occultations (PPOs). An occultation occurs when one object in the sky appears to move in front of another.

As the seven TRAPPIST-1 planets orbit in a plane around their star that is almost perfectly edge-on to us, we can witness many PPOs, where effectively the two planets involved in the PPO and our detectors are all in a direct line.

Now suppose that transmissions from the planet being occulted are directed at the planet doing the occulting.

These transmissions might be communications similar to those from NASA's Deep Space Network (DSN), in which large radio transmitters in Canberra, Madrid and California keep in constant touch with our fleet of interplanetary spacecraft.

Similarly, it is possible that during a PPO, when two planets and ourselves are in a line, we could pick up leakage from radio transmissions between the two planets from the alien equivalent of the Deep Space Network.

That's what this latest survey of TRAPPIST-1 was hunting for.

"TRAPPIST-1 is the ideal laboratory because it has known transiting planets, nearly perfectly edge-on, and it’s so close that we have enough sensitivity to detect certain signals," said Tusay.

No signals were detected, but we needn’t be downhearted.

That's because the Allen Telescope Array is only sensitive enough to detect interplanetary transmissions at TRAPPIST-1 that are being broadcast with a power equivalent to an Arecibo-sized transmitter.

Before it collapsed in 2020, the Arecibo radio telescope was a 305-meter (1,000-foot) dish. However, a powerful transmitter such as Arecibo would be “overkill” for interplanetary communications, said Tusay.

The telescopes of the DSN are smaller in comparison with a lower effective power — too low for the Allen Telescope Array to detect.

However, when it begins science operations towards the end of this decade, the Square Kilometer Array in South Africa and Australia should have the sensitivity to detect DSN-level transmissions during PPO events.
