A senior Russian diplomat has accused theEU of falling victim to a US-UK ployin Ukraine, and losing the chance to become an independent player in a multipolar world. Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin claimed that preventing Germany, France and Russia from banding together has long been a goal of Washington and its closest allies

“Due to political machinations of the US and Britain, the opportunity for constructive cooperation involving Russia, aimed at creating an independentcenter of power on the European continent, has been lost for decades,” the official said on Monday during an event in Moscow.

Galuzin referred to the 2014 armed coup in Kiev, and the ensuing escalation of Russia-Ukraine tensions, leading up to the military conflict last year. The diplomat said Ukraine is being used by Washington as “a tool, even a consumable” in its attempt to cling on to its world hegemony.

The sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines last autumn “vividly demonstrated the lengths to which those who arenot interested in mutually beneficial cooperationbetween Russia and … European states would go,” the deputy foreign minister added.

The pipelines, built under the Baltic Sea to deliver Russian fuel directly to Germany, were ruptured by powerful explosions on September 26. American journalist Seymour Hersh claimed the operation was ordered by US President Joe Biden, in an effort to lock Germany into a campaign to defeat Russia in Ukraine. The US has denied the allegation, and European nations investigating the incident have so far failed to identify a culprit.

Regarding the standoff with Russia, the EU “has been forced to leave behind all pretence at independence and unconditionally comply with the US course,” Galuzin stated. This decision has resulted in a “rapid decrease of the EU’s economic and political clout in the world and worsened the crisis trends in the EU.”

The deputy minister was delivering opening remarks during a Ukraine-themed event hosted by the Russian Historical Society. He claimed Western influence in Ukraine has included distorting the truth about the nation’s past.

“The current Ukrainian authorities are destroying everything that connected our nations in any way,” he claimed, expressing hope that historians can help to eventually find a way towards reconciliation.

The role of the US dollar as the world reserve currency may actually diminish due to the US using its leverage on the global financial system to pursue its geopolitical goals through sanctions, Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen has admitted. However, no other currency is ready to replace it, she reckoned.

Yellen was asked during an interview on Sunday by CNN’s Fareed Zakaria about the efficiency of the anti-Russia sanctions and about Washington’s history of what he described as the “weaponization of the dollar.”

Zakaria cited recent statements by Brazil’s President Lula da Silva and other politicians about the risk of dependency on the US currency. He asked whether the present time would be remembered as the moment when “the dollar’s hegemony and its status as a reserve currency began to falter.”

Yellen acknowledged that use offinancial sanctions “could undermine the hegemony of the dollar” in the long run, but promised that Washington was using this “important tool”judiciously and with the backing of its allies. (So she admits its a hegemony tool?)

Regardless, she added, the role of the American greenback is explained by factors such as the volume of the US treasuries market, its wide use in international trade, and a“rule of law” in the USthat other nations cannot offer. (Wait it minute the US and EU violated international law to steal Russian state assets, there’s no rule of law in these sanctions and theft. If Bonds are not bought by corporations and foreign countries it will destroy our economy, you can’t print money to save our economy, bonds must be purchased not treasuries)

“We haven’t seen any other country that has this basic infrastructure and institutional infrastructure that would enable its currency to serve the world like this,” she explained.

Opponents of US domination in global finances are not necessarily advocating replacing the dollar with another currency serving the same role. Russia’s leadership has prioritized a transition away from the dollar and into regional currencies.

An absence of a single global reserve currency would be a natural element of multipolarity, supporters of such a model say. The West’s use of unprecedented sanctions against Russia, including bans on trade, seizure of national reserves and denial of financial services to Russian companies, has merely sped up the transition, in their view.

“It’s not a coincidence that the talk about a switch to national currencies got spurred now,”Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov remarked in February during a discussion on Russia-Brazil trade. “Nobody knows who the US presidentcould find unappealing after getting up on the wrong side of the bed.”

Yellen also mentioned the issue of frozen Russian assets in her interview with CNN, arguing that “Russia should pay for the damage that it has done to Ukraine.”

Sean Penn once met Vladimir Putin. Back in 2001, when he and Jack Nicholson went to the Moscow Film Festival for the Russian premiere of Penn’s film, The Pledge, the president turned up to meet them. Even then, more than 20 years before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Penn had a very bad feeling about the politician he now calls a “creepy little bully”.

During their time in Russia, Penn and Nicholson were driven to the dacha (or country house) belonging to Oscar-winning Russian filmmaker and Putin cheerleader, Nikita Mikhalkov.

The car journey gave him “a cold, ugly feeling”. That feeling is expressed at length in the new film Superpower, which Penn co-directed with Aaron Kaufman. Penn started work on the documentary in 2021. It was initially intended as a light-hearted look at Volodymyr Zelensky, the comedy actor who became president of Ukraine. Making it meant that Penn was in Ukraine on 24 February last year, the day when his old host Putin sent his army across the border to try to seize the country.

Penn began work on the documentary with a wry curiosity about Zelensky, the celebrity turned political leader. Russia reveals details of snap Pacific Fleet drills

Over 25,000 servicemen have been placed on high alert, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu told President Vladimir Putin

More than 25,000 servicemen and hundreds of pieces of military hardware are involved in a surprise combat readiness check of Russia’s Pacific Fleet, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu has revealed.

All of the forces taking part in the exercise, which kicked off on April 14,have been placed on high alert, Shoigu told President Vladimir Putin on Monday.

“They’re engaged in fire drills and tactical exercises, while also working on improving interactions between different branches of the military,” the minister added. He noted that167 ships, 12 submarines, and 89 planes and helicopters are part of the drills.

According to Shoigu, thesecond stage of the surprise checkis currently underway, with a group heading towards the southern part of the Sea of Okhotsk, located between Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula and the Japanese island of Hokkaido. The ships will perform “the tasks of combat maneuvering and surveying the underwater situation.”

The drills willtest the combat sustainabilityof strategic missile submarines and their readiness to use their weapons, the minister noted, adding that tactical air defense exercises have also begun.

The final stage of the exercise is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Shoigu said. Among other things, it will involve Russian strategic bombers flying to the central part of the Pacific to perform strikes against flotillas belonging to a simulated enemy. There will also be more missile and artillery drills against naval and airborne targets, the minister added.

Putin stated that the surprise checks had thus far been conducted “at a high level.” He stressed that the Russian military is currently focused on the conflict with Ukraine, but added that “nobody has aborted the task of developing the navy.”

Shoigu stated last week that the largescale checks were aimed at “boosting the ability of the armed forces to execute the tasks of repelling aggression by apotential enemy from maritime directions.”

During the first stage of the drills, the Russianmilitary trained to prevent enemy forcesfrom landing on theisland of Sakhalinand the southern coast of theKuril Islands. Japan disputes Russian sovereignty over four of the islands in the Kuril Archipelago, which the Soviet Union captured during World War II.

Piper Rockelle's mom sued for $22m by 11 kids from her daughter's 'squad' who claim abuse

The mother of star Piper Rockelle, 15, is facing allegations that she emotionally and physically abused children, including touching their buttocks and even mailing her daughter's underwear to a male fan to 'sniff it.'

In a filed in January 2022, 11 teens from the 'Piper Squad' say that Tiffany Smith, 41, would inflict distress and urge the minors to try oral sex and wear revealing clothes to accentuate 'bulges' in videos posted online.

Smith, who allegedlybragged that she 'makes kiddie porn,' encouraged the minors to be 'sexy' and subjected them to 'harassment, molestation, and abuse,' according to the complaint.

Sawyer Sharbino, Donlad Dougher, Corrine Joy, Connor Cain, Symonne Harrison, Ayden Mekus, Hayden Haas, Walker Bryant, Sophia Fergi, Claire Rocksmith, and Reese Rocksmith are asking for $2 million each from Smith and her boyfriend Hunter Hill.

Rockelle has more than 10 million subscribers on YouTubeand some report her net worth is somewhere in the range of $3 million. Smith's trial begins on Monday.

According to the defendants, Smith would purposefully exploit the children on her daughter's YouTube page and make increasingly disturbing comments to them.

In thenearly 150 page complaint, the group of teenagers and children describe the alleged abuse they endured at the hands of Smith.

The group called the YouTube stage mom a 'mean-spirited control freak' and say she often made uncomfortable comments about them and their private body parts.

Haas was allegedly asked by Smith whether his 'balls have dropped yet' and 'how long is it [referring to his penis]?'

They say she would make obscene and graphic remarks about genitalia, encouraged them to be 'sexy,' and 'sexually aggressive.'

One video posted to Rockelle's page two years ago features eight teens in a 'last to stop kissing' game where $10,000 was offered to the winners. That video currently has 10 million views.

She allegedly instructed the young boys to take their shirts off and said 'sex sells' while asking one of the girls if they 'knew what a dildo was for.'

According to the group, she would also assume an alter-ego as 'Frank the Pug' or 'Lenny the Dead Cat' and shout out explicit phrases to the children.

'I'm going to fk you up the a,' and 'I'm going to touch you in your sleep' were both allegedly said while Smith was using her alter-ego.

At one point, the mother - as her alter ego - said to Fergi, 'I wonder since (this squad member) has freckles, whether he has a bunch of freckles on his d**k.'

She also at one point reportedly referred to a Squad member's penis as 'Dwayne the Rock Hard Johnson.'

Some of the plaintiffs in their complaint also allege they were not paid for their appearances on her page and while promoting Rockelle's content.

Chicago's new mayor condemns takeover chaos but says it's 'not constructive' to demonize teens

Chicago's mayor-elect said the city should not demonize over the weekend, even after the event turned violent with cars burnt cars and minors shot.

Brandon Johnson, 47, said Sunday he does not 'condone the destructive activity' and that it's 'unacceptable and has no place' in Chicago, but that it should not be used as a way to vilify the group.

'However, it is not constructive to demonize youth who have otherwise been starved of opportunities in their own communities,' said Johnson, a progressive Democrat.

Shocking footage showed some teenagers jumping on top of a bus while others started a massive brawl after descending on Millennium Park and attempting to breach barricades.

Gunshots rang out with rounds striking two teenage boys aged 16 and 17 who were reported to be in stable condition as of Sunday. Cars were also left vandalized near East Washington Street in the Windy City, including a which is worth about $120,000.

The situation began Saturday when a crowd of more than a hundred rowdy teenagers turned violent as dozens torched and smashed cars while blaring music.

In total, 15 people were arrested including nine adults and six children.

Despite the outrage over the violence and destruction, Johnson said he thinks the only path forward is to 'work together' to give kids safer spaces.

'Our city must work together to create spaces for youth to gather safely and responsibly, under adult guidance and supervision, to ensure that every part of our city remains welcome for both residents and visitors,' he said in a statement.

The mayor-elect's response did not go over well on social media with hundreds calling him and others out for what they say is a city on the brink of ruin.

'Isn't that the whole point of having city parks and beaches….are these not meant to be the community spaces for our youth to gather safely?' replied one user on Twitter.

'Nowhere In This City Is Safe!!!!' said another.

'Apparently Chicago decided it hasn't yet hit rock bottom. Soon,' wrote one person.

'When they travel in packs so large, there is no fear of repercussion,' wrote another.

'When there are NO repercussions. Why would anyone listen to authority? Just keep doing what they are doing, because they don't fear any type of punishment,' wrote one Twitter user.

Saturday's incident is one of many which are being dubbed 'teen trends.'

On Friday, a 14-year-old boy was shot at another gathering near 31st Avenue Beach.

During the chaos on Saturday night, a bystander was attacked while in the driver seat of his car by rowdy teenagers and had to be taken to the hospital.

It appeared as if police were unable to handle the crowd and were seen escorting innocent bystanders and tourists to safety.

Officers worked to clear large the crowds and video showed dozens of cops lining the street near Washington and State.

'It's heartbreaking, kids fighting, chasing each other, some of them got guns,' an unidentified witness told NBC News. 'It's really heartbreaking when one of them actually gets hurt, and that's unfortunate, happened last night.'

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Mayor-Elect Brandon Johnson both issued statements regarding chaotic scenes.

Mayor Lightfoot said while many of the young people gathered to have a good time and enjoy the weather, some were involved in 'reckless, disrespectful and unlawful behavior.'

'As I have said before, we as a city cannot and will not allow any of our public spaces to become a platform for criminal conduct,' the liberal mayor said.

'Most importantly, parents and guardians must know where their children are and be responsible for their actions. Instilling the important values of respect for people and property must begin at home.'

Lightfoot noted that Chicago police leadership has assured her they will 'make the necessary adjustments to address these teen trends issues as we move into the summer months.'

US military kills three and arrests one in helicopter raid

The US military has killed three and arrested one in a helicopter raid targeting a senior ISIS leader responsible for planning terror attacks in the Middle East and Europe, which is the second strike against a warlord in the region in two weeks.

Central Command (CENTCOM) revealed on that US forces conducted a helicopter raid in northern Syria in the early hours of this morning.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) confirmed that the strike killed a senior ISIS leader and operational planner responsible for planning terror attacks in the Middle East and Europe as well as two other armed fighters.

Another ISIS commander was arrested after he reportedly moved to the targeted building - which was hit by two missiles - a few months ago. However, the US military made no mention yet of any arrests.

The Observatory, a Britain-based war monitor that relies on sources on the ground, added that the strike 'targeted the building where an IS member was present' in Al Suwaydah, a village about 15 miles (25 kilometres) west of the town of Jarabulus on Syria's northern border with Turkey, and resulted in 'violent clashes' on the ground.

The SOHR said those 'violent clashes' took place after the helicopter airdrop, the first airdrop this year after an ISIS leader was killed by a drone strike two weeks ago.

An airdrop sees soldiers or items being 'unloaded' while the helicopter is still in flight, for example by soldiers climbing down a rope hanging from the helicopter.

The two armed fighters killed were members of the Soqour Al-Shamal factions, who were near the site where the operation took place, the SOHR said.

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, which partners with the U.S. in anti-IS operations in northeast Syria, said that the operation was launched from a base near the town of Kobani and targeted a military site belonging to a Turkish-backed armed opposition group, Suqour al-Shamal, in the village of village of Suwayda in the region of Jarablus, near the Turkish border.

The SOHR confirmed: 'International Coalition Forces helicopters which carried out the airdrop took off from Kharab Ishk base in Ain Al-Arab countryside (Kobani).

A Turkish-backed rebel group also said in a statement that two of its fighters were killed after they went to the site of the raid in the Jarabulus area.

Many former IS militants joined pro-Turkish groups after the jihadists lost their last scraps of territory in Syria in March 2019, Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.

In separate attacks on Sunday, suspected IS fighters killed at least 36 truffle hunters and five shepherds in Syria, the Observatory reported, with 17 pro-regime fighters among the dead.

According to CENTCOM's assessment, no civilians were killed or injured in today's raid and no US troops were wounded nor were any US helicopters damaged.

General Michael 'Erik' Kurilla, a CENTCOM Commander, said: 'Though degraded, ISIS remains able to conduct operations within the region with a desire to strike beyond the Middle East. We will continue the relentless campaig against ISIS.'

An earlier report by CENTCOM said the ISIS leader was 'probably' dead and that two armed fighters were killed.

CENTCOM's Colonel Joe Buccino said: 'This operation reaffirms CENTCOM's steadfast commitment to the region and the enduring defeat of ISIS.'

Buccino promised CENTCOM would provide additional details soon.

The identity of the alleged senior leader and target has not yet been revealed.

He also said that no US forces were wounded and no US helicopters were shot down in the raid.

Syria's White Helmets, a civil defense group operating in opposition-held areas of northern Syria, said it transported two people wounded during the raid to a local hospital, which later said they had died.

A third person was killed when the U.S. forces landed for the raid, the White Helmets said.

At least 900 U.S. troops are deployed in Syria, along with an undisclosed number of contractors.

As part of the US's ongoing campaign to defeat ISIS in Syria and Iraq and prevent the terror organisation from growing again, the US military captured an ISIS operative and two of his associates just a week ago in eastern Syria during another helicopter raid.

Pope slams 'insinuations' against John Paul II as baseless

ROME (AP) — Pope Francis on Sunday publicly defended St. John Paul II, condemning as “offensive and baseless” insinuations that recently surfaced about the late pontiff.

In remarks to tourists and pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square, Francis said he was aiming to interpret the feelings of the faithful worldwide by expressing gratitude to the Polish pontiff’s memory.

Days earlier, the Vatican's media apparatus had described as “slanderous” an audiotape from a purported Roman mobster who insinuated that John Paul would go out looking for underage girls to molest.

The tape was played on an Italian TV program by Pietro Orlandi, brother of Emanuela Orlandi, the teenage daughter of a Vatican employee who lived at the Vatican. The disappearance of the 15-year-old in 1983 is an enduring mystery that has spawned countless theories and so far fruitless investigations in the decades since

Francis noted that in Sunday's crowd in the square were pilgrims and other faithful in town to pray at a sanctuary for divine mercy, a quality John Paul stressed often in his papacy, which spanned from 1978 to 2005.

“Confident of interpreting the sentiment of all the faithful of the entire world, I direct a grateful thought to the memory of St. John Paul II, in these days the object of offensive and baseless insinuations," Francis said, his voice turning stern and his words drawing applause.

Last week, Pietro Orlandi met for hours with Vatican prosecutors who earlier this year reopened the investigation into his sister's disappearance. Italy's Parliament has also begun a commission of inquest into the case.

Emanuela vanished on June 22, 1983, after leaving her family’s Vatican City apartment to go to a music lesson in Rome. Her father was a lay employee of the Holy See.

Among the theories about what happened to her have been ones linking the disappearance to the aftermath of the failed assassination attempt against John Paul in 1981 in St. Peter's Square or to the international financial scandal over the Vatican bank. Still other theories envision a role played by Rome’s criminal underworld.

The recent four-part Netflix documentary “Vatican Girl” explored those possible scenarios and provided new testimony from a friend who said Emanuela had told her a week before she disappeared that a high-ranking Vatican cleric had made sexual advances toward her.

Her brother has long insisted the Vatican knows more than it has said. The Vatican prosecutor in charge of the probe says the pontiff has given him free rein to try to find the truth.

While at the Vatican last week, Pietro Orlandi provided Vatican prosecutors with an audiotape from a purported Roman mobster insinuating that John Paul would go out looking for underage girls to molest. The Vatican’s editorial director in a scathing editorial noted the insinuation lacked any “evidence, clues, testimonies or corroboration.”

Writing in the Vatican's newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano, Andrea Tornielli said “no one deserves to be vilified in this way, without even a shred of a clue, on the basis of the ‘rumors’ of some unknown figure in the criminal underworld or some sleazy anonymous comment produced on live TV.”

John Paul’s longtime secretary, Polish Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, also criticized the insinuations as “unreal, false and laughable if they weren’t tragic and even criminal.”

Pietro Orlandi’s lawyer, Laura Sgro, has insisted her client wasn’t accusing anyone.

Dominion's $1.6bn defamation trial against Fox News is DELAYED

The start of Dominion Voting Systems' $1.6 billion defamation trial against has been delayed until Tuesday as the parties pursue a potential settlement, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Dominion claims Fox defamed the long-established voting firm by questioning its technology and methods after 's November 2020 election loss

Jury selection in what shaped as the most-anticipated defamation trial in America was expected to conclude Monday before opening statements but Judge Eric Davis on Sunday announced he was delaying the start 24 hours.

Dominion may have softened its claims, according to a new Fox legal filing, reports the

Claire Bischoff, a Dominion spokesperson, said the company had no comment on the delay, as did Fox Corp, which is being sued along with Fox News, which did not return a request for comment.

'The Court has decided to continue the start of the trial, including jury selection, until Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at 9:00am (1300 GMT),' Judge Davis said in a statement, without providing a specific reason for the delay.

'I will make such an announcement tomorrow at 9:00am in Courtroom 7E.' The lawsuit, filed in Delaware Superior Court, accuses Fox of 'giving life' to a 'manufactured storyline about election fraud' in its coverage of the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

Many legal experts are surprised Fox and Dominion have not already reached an out-of-court settlement, although they can at any time. The media giant contends the $1.6 billion damages claim is a wild overestimate while the voting company has been accused of trying to inflict maximum embarrassment by exposing the network's internal communications following the election.

Fox Corp chairman, Rupert Murdoch, was expected to be one of the first witnesses called before a parade of executives and on-air hosts, including Carlson, Sean Hannity and Jeanine Pirro. The delay follows a week of pretrial hearings with Judge Davis last Wednesday sanctioning Fox News and handing Dominion a fresh chance to gather evidence after Fox withheld records until the eve of the trial.

The evidence includes recordings of Rudy Giuliani, former President Trump's lawyer, saying in pre-taped Fox appearances that he did not have any evidence to back up the false allegations of election rigging by Dominion in the 2020 race that are at the heart of the lawsuit. The recordings were made by a former Fox employee who is currently suing the network.

Judge Davis said he would also very likely tap an outside investigator to probe Fox's late disclosure of the evidence and take whatever steps necessary to remedy the situation, which he described as troubling. Fox said in a statement last Wednesday that it 'produced the supplemental information' to Dominion 'when we first learned it.'

Blake Rohrbacher, a Fox lawyer, sent a letter of apology to Davis on Friday, saying it was a misunderstanding and not an intention to deceive. Dominion has accused Fox of ruining its reputation by airing baseless claims that its machines secretly changed votes in favor of Democrat Biden, who defeated then-President Trump, a Republican, in the 2020 presidential election.

The voting company says the claims were part of a calculated bid by the network to 'lure viewers back' after they lost loyal fans because they were the first to declare that Trump had lost the state of Arizona.

Dominion, which was founded in 2002 and had, until 2020, operated largely unknown in 28 states in America said 'Fox endorsed, repeated and broadcast a series of verifiably false yet devastating lies about Dominion.'

These included claims that the company committed election fraud by rigging the 2020 presidential election, that its software and algorithms manipulated vote counts, that it was owned by a company founded in Venezuela to rig elections for former president Hugo Chavez, and that it paid 'kickbacks' to government officials who used its machines in the 2020 election. …

Putin hails Russian navy's performance in Pacific drills

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday hailed the military's performance during massive naval drills that have involved the entire Russian Pacific Fleet — a show of force amid the tensions with the West over the fighting in Ukraine.

Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reported to Putin that the exercise that began Friday involves167warships, including12submarines,89aircraft and25,000 troops.

As part of the drills, Russia's nuclear-capable long-range strategic bombers will “fly over the central part of the Pacific Ocean to imitate strikes against groups of enemy ships,” Shoigu said.

Speaking during Monday's meeting with Shoigu, Putin praised the navy's “high level” performance and said that similar drills should be held in other areas

The Defense Ministry has declared that sectors in the southern part of the Sea of Okhotsk, the Peter the Great Bay of the Sea of Japan and the Avacha Bay on the southeastern coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula would be closed to sea and air traffic for the duration of practice torpedo and missile launches and artillery exercises.

The ministry said that the drills were intended to “test the Pacific Fleet’s readiness to repel aggression.” The ministry described the briefing as a show of Russia’s “voluntary transparency.”

The Russian military has concentrated the bulk of its forces on the front lines in Ukraine, but has also continued conducting regular drills across Russia to train its forces and demonstrate their readiness.

The Pacific Fleet drills started just before Chinese Defense Minister Gen. Li Shangfu arrived in Russia on Sunday and met with Putin, who hailed close ties between Moscow and Beijing.

Li's talks with Shoigu would focus on “prospects of bilateral defense cooperation and acute issues of global and regional security,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.

On Friday, Shoigu noted that the scenario for the maneuvers envisages a response to an adversary’s attempt to make a landing on Sakhalin Island and the southern Kuril Islands.

Japan asserts territorial rights to the Kuril Islands, which it calls the Northern Territories. The Soviet Union took them in the final days of World War II, and the dispute has kept the countries from signing a peace treaty formally ending their hostilities.

Last year, Russia announced it had suspended peace talks with Japan to protest Tokyo’s sanctions against Moscow over its action in Ukraine.

Russia has built up its military presence on the islands in recent years, deploying advanced fighter jets, anti-ship missiles and air defense systems there.

A famous Flat Earther spent a staggering $20,000 on a DIY experiment that accidentally proved the planet is round.

Bob Knodel was in the middle of filming for a Netflix documentary titled Behind the Curve when he realised his pricy mistake.

Seeking to disprove the mass of research led by NASA experts, he explained the particulars of the DIY experiment using a laser gyroscope.

The test involved using a camera to film through two holes, with a person standing on the other side and shining a torch back at the camera.

Mr Knodel professed that if the light can be seen with a camera, the holes in the fence and the torch all at equal differences above the ground, then he could draw a positive conclusion that the Earth is flat.

Yet, in a humorous and expensive turn of events, no light could be seen, causing Mr Knodel to mutter an awkward 'interesting' after the mistake.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Mr Knodel has since opened up about the experiment and what it means for flat Earthers across the globe.

'What we found is, when we turned on that gyroscope we found that we were picking up a drift. A 15 degree per hour drift,' he said.

'Now, obviously we were taken aback by that,' before admitting the results were 'kind of a problem'.

'We obviously were not willing to accept that, and so we started looking for ways to disprove it was actually registering the motion of the Earth,' he added.

According to a report by Unilad, one Instagram user claimed: 'I bet he still won't accept it.'

Another said: 'Something oddly satisfying about watching a simple opinion dissolve in the face of non-rigorous methods lol.'

The failed experiment has since gone viral on Reddit, with people noticing that even after the experiment, Mr Knodel kept using 'mental gymnastics' to claim his conspiracy theory was still correct.

One person wrote: 'I've seen that clip many times but have yet to see his explanation as to how that happened.'
