DeSantis’ Office Responds to Lawsuit From Martha’s Vineyard Migrants, Points Out They Signed a Consent Form

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has responded to a lawsuit brought on by three Martha’s Vineyard migrants and a leftist organization that advocates for illegal aliens.

The absurd class action lawsuit filed by Lawyers for Civil Rights alleges that the private flight to the elite vacation destination was “cruelty akin to what they fled” in Venezuela.

“These immigrants, who are pursuing the proper channels for lawful immigration status in the United States, experienced cruelty akin to what they fled in their home country,” the lawsuit claims.

The lawsuit names DeSantis, the Florida Department of Transportation, Secretary of the Florida Department of Transportation Jared Perdue, and five unnamed individuals and organizations.

The suit claims that representatives of DeSantis gained the trust of the migrants by giving them $10 McDonalds gift cards.

In a statement provided to Fox News, Gov. DeSantis’ spokeswoman Taryn Fenske slammed the lawsuit as “political theater” by “opportunist activists.”

“If these activists spent even a fraction of this time and effort at the border, perhaps some accountability would be brought to the Biden Administration’s reckless border policies that entice illegal immigrants to make dangerous and often lethal journeys through Central America and put their lives in the hands of cartels and Coyotes,” Fenske said.

Fenske also provided the station with a copy of the consent form that the Venezuelan migrants signed.

The form states in both English and Spanish that they “agree to hold the benefactor or its designated representatives harmless of all liability arising out of or in any way relating to any injuries and damages that may occur during the agreed transport to locations outside of Texas until the final destination of Massachusetts.”

Migrants signed the forms before boarding the flights.

“The immigrants were homeless, hungry, and abandoned – and these activists didn’t care about them then. Florida’s program gave them a fresh start in a sanctuary state and these individuals opted to take advantage of chartered flights to Massachusetts,” Fenske added. “It was disappointing that Martha’s Vineyard called in the Massachusetts National Guard to bus them away from the island within 48 hours.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a partial mobilization in a televised address to the nation on Wednesday, pointing to the threats to the country’s existence posed by the West and the inevitable nature of the special military operation in Ukraine.

The stretched-out frontline, the constant shelling of Russian borderline areas by the Ukrainian military and attacks on liberated regions required the call-up of servicemen from the reserve, Putin explained.

Russia will call up reservists who have already served in the army and will arrange for their training. The reservists and Donbass volunteers will be entitled to the same guarantees enjoyed by contract-enlisted servicemen.

Partial mobilization

The combat engagement line now stretches over 1,000 km in the special military operation in Ukraine while terrorist strikes from Western weapons are already being delivered against Russian borderline areas. "NATO is conducting reconnaissance actually across the entire south of Russia in real time, using advanced systems, aircraft and ships, satellites and strategic drones."

Nuclear blackmail has also begun to be used: "This involves not only the West-encouraged bombardments of the Zaporozhye NPP, which may trigger a nuclear disaster, but also the pronouncements by representatives of leading NATO countries about the possibility and the admissibility of using weapons of mass destruction against Russia."

As proposed by the Russian General Staff and the Defense Ministry, Russia will call a partial mobilization and these measures will begin already on September 21.

Russia will call up reservists, primarily those who served in the army. Mobilized citizens will undergo required training and enjoy the same guarantees that are given to contract-enlisted personnel. The Russian government and the Defense Ministry will equate Donbass volunteer formations to Russian servicemen in their status.

The Russian authorities will also immediately resolve all the issues related to the provision of defense industry enterprises with necessary supplies and financial resources.

Court says USDA must force food companies to explicitly label GMO ingredients (not just use nondescript QR codes)

A federal court has ruled that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) made an “error” by allowing food corporations to label products containing genetically engineered (GE) ingredients using tricky QR codes as opposed to transparent words.

A USDA rule that took effect earlier this year requires food made with genetically modified (GMO) ingredients to be labeled in some clear way, the simplest specified way being with the word “bioengineered.” If food manufacturers do not like using words, then the USDA specified that a QR code will suffice.

The court decided that the USDA’s stipulation of a QR code as opposed to transparent labeling is unacceptable because this “standalone electronic disclosure” does not conform to the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard, which was passed six years ago as an amendment to the Agricultural Marketing Act of 1946.

That law was passed in an effort to nullify individual state laws mandating that foods made with GMO soybeans, corn, and their respective derivatives to be indicated on product packaging. (Related: Eleven years ago, MSNBC conducted a poll which found that nearly 90 percent of the country wants GMOs to be clearly labeled.)

The judge said that a QR code without any actual words or other labeling does not provide consumers with “sufficient access” to the information they need in order to make informed purchasing decisions at the grocery store.

Trump-Appointed Judge Strikes Down Federal School Mask and Vaccine Mandate

A federal judge on Wednesday “ruled that the federal government cannot require Head Start program teachers, staff and volunteers be vaccinated against COVID-19, nor can they require that adults and students wear masks.” the Liberty Justice Center announced.

Terry A. Doughty, a judge on the US District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, a Trump appointee, said “the liberty interests of individuals mandated to take the COVID-19 vaccine outweigh any interest generated by the mandatory administration of vaccines.”

“The public interest is served by maintaining the constitutional structure and maintaining the liberty of individuals who do not want to take the COVID-19 vaccine. This interest outweighs Agency Defendants’ interests. The public has a liberty interest in not being required to take a vaccine or be fired from their jobs. The public interest must be taken into account before allowing Agency Defendants to mandate vaccines. Although vaccines arguably serve the public interest, the liberty interests of individuals mandated to take the COVID-19 vaccine outweigh any interest generated by the mandatory administration of vaccines.”

Last December Louisiana teacher Sandy Brick filed a federal lawsuit to stop the mandates, Liberty Justice Center said.

“Louisiana teacher Sandy Brick has been serving her students through adversity and uncertainty the last two years. Today, this decision vindicates her right to teach without sacrificing her freedom.” – Sarah Harbison, general counsel at the Pelican Institute for Public Policy said.

“Although President Biden recently declared that the ‘pandemic is over,’ the fight to restore Americans’ individual liberties is not,” said Daniel Suhr, managing attorney at the Liberty Justice Center. “We will continue to fight for teachers like Sandy and the low-income students they serve until every illegal and unjustified mandate is wiped from the books. Today’s decision is a significant step toward undoing the injustice perpetrated against everyday Americans throughout the COVID-19 crisis.”

The US government can appeal Judge Doughty’s ruling to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Recall, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals previously blocked Biden’s vaccine mandate for private businesses.

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr celebrated the ruling.

“In response to our lawsuit, a federal judge has permanently blocked the Biden administration’s unlawful vaccine & mask mandate for Head Start school programs in GA & 23 other states.” Carr said.

“In part, this mandate would have forced Head Start students 2 years & older to wear a mask.” he said.

Declassify Everything!

“Follow the money.” This is a common watchword among those distrustful of the state. If you want to know what politicians or state institutions are really up to, the common wisdom goes, you have to stop listening to what statists do and say, and start paying attention to who is paying them to do and say it.

Following the money is an excellent practice. It reveals volumes about what government is really up to behind the scenes. Investigative journalists like Peter Schweizer, Tom Fitton, and John Solomon and Seamus Bruner have followed the money to show that many American politicians and government institutions work for cash and will do the bidding of whoever has the most cash to dispense. Following the money is revealing in the extreme.

But there are limits to following the money. For one thing, “the money” often circles back around and lands in voters’ pockets. Take the Biden administration’s announcement in August of this year that it would be holding a jubilee for those who took out student loans. Or take any other standard pork-barrel project stuck into any standard piece of congressional legislation or budget. Voters hate corruption, unless they are benefitting from it.

Following the money is entertaining for the hoi polloi up to a point—the point where the focus starts to shift to the hoi polloi. After that, voters tune out. Following the money is no fun when the money trail implicates the audience in the web of corruption.

Another limit to following the money is that the state has control of the money supply. Following the money is not just an exercise in astonishment at how rotten the state is. For libertarians, following the money should at least lead to a reduction in the size of the state—and for me, ideally, to the end of the state altogether. But the state has a monopoly on counterfeiting currency.

So, however much one follows the money, one never reaches one of the two beating hearts of state power. One just keeps following the money, around and around, without arriving at the other dynamo of statist corruption.

The present moment is a pristine opportunity for libertarians to shift focus to the other heart of the state: information. The federal government, and the “law enforcement” agencies, which exist solely to allow the federal government to break the law with impunity, are revealed now as dependent upon information at least as much as money.

The FBI raid on Donald Trump’s private residence in Florida in early August was not in pursuit of cash, but paperwork. President Trump had the power to declassify that paperwork, which he claims he did by standing order. But as journalist Lee Smith notes, sources inside the bureau are saying that the real reason the FBI wanted the documents is not that they are classified, but that they reveal secrets about the FBI’s “Operation Crossfire Hurricane” coup against Trump.

Stealing money is standard operating procedure in Washington, DC. The FBI doesn’t raid houses when politicians go about their routine business of stealing money from citizens via taxes, and then stealing it again via bribes and kickback deals and other schemes. The FBI does raid houses when someone has information compromising to the FBI. It’s the information, not the money, that is revealed here to be the real lifeblood of the freedom-killing state.

Declassify everything. And then let the chips fall where they may.

The Horsehead Nebula in Infrared from Hubble

While drifting through the cosmos, a magnificent interstellar dust cloud became sculpted by stellar winds and radiation to assume a recognizable shape. Fittingly named the Horsehead Nebula, it is embedded in the vast and complex Orion Nebula (M42). A potentially rewarding but difficult object to view personally with a small telescope, the featured gorgeously detailed image was taken in infrared light by the orbiting Hubble Space Telescope. The dark molecular cloud, roughly 1,500 light years distant, is cataloged as Barnard 33 and is seen above primarily because it is backlit by the nearby massive star Sigma Orionis. The Horsehead Nebula will slowly shift its apparent shape over the next few million years and will eventually be destroyed by high energy starlight.

Sen. Tim Scott Introduces Bill To Ban Schools From Keeping A Child’s Gender Transition A Secret From Parents

Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) introduced a bill Tuesday to prevent schools from keeping a child’s gender transition from their parents.

The Parental Rights Over the Education and Care of Their (PROTECT) Kids Act would require schools that receive federal funding to obtain parents’ permission before changing a student’s gender pronouns or preferred name on a school form, or allowing that student to use locker rooms or bathrooms that comport with their selected gender identity.

“Schools exist to educate children — not indoctrinate them. And a quality education requires input from those who know children best: their parents,” Scott said in a statement announcing the bill. “Sadly, radical and secretive gender policies have shut parents out of the conversation and broken their trust. My bill will safeguard parental rights, improve the crucial relationship between parents and schools, and ensure that children can learn in an environment free from activist ideology.”

The text of the law states:

As a condition of receiving Federal funds, any elementary school…or school that consists of only middle grades… that receives Federal funds shall be required to obtain parental consent before—

(1) changing a minor child’s gender markers, pronouns, or preferred name on any school form; or

(2) allowing a child to change the child’s sex based accommodations, including locker rooms or bathrooms

“The law in the United States has long recognized the importance of parental rights,” the bill says in its “findings” section. “A parent’s right to oversee the care and education of their child is guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment.”

But “public schools across the country are violating these fundamental parental and familial rights by deliberately hiding information about gender transitioning children from their parents,” the bill states, citing several instances across the country in which schools instructed staff to conduct a student’s gender transition without parental consent.

German domestic intelligence is running hundreds of fake right-wing extremist social media accounts

The operation involving fake right-wing accounts has become so big that information sharing is necessary so authorities do not target each other

Hundreds of the radical Nazis and right-wing extremists online are actually German domestic intelligence agents, and many of them may be responsible for “inciting hatred” and even violence. These agents, who once needed to drink and directly socialize with members of the extreme right to gain information on their targets, are now running right-wing extremist accounts online in Germany.

Germany’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) argues that these accounts are needed to effectively monitor the extreme right, but critics say that they may also be promoting and actively encouraging radicalism, according to a report from German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung.

“This is the future of information gathering,” an unnamed head of a relevant state office told Süddeutsche Zeitung.

According to research by the newspaper, the authority has invested heavily in “virtual agents” since 2019, which it finances with taxpayers’ money. Both the federal office and the federal states employ spies, who besides right-wing extremists, are also tasked with keeping an eye on left-wing extremists, Islamists, and the “conspiracy-ideological” scene.

However, the activities of the BfV running hundreds of right-wing extremist accounts have come to light at the same time that Germany’s left-wing government has labeled right-wing extremism the biggest threat to the country, despite data showing that left-wing extremists and radical Islam pose bigger threats. The country’s interior minister, Nancy Faeser, has launched a 10-point plan to fight “right-wing extremism,” and much like the Biden administration in the United States, has turned the domestic security state against political opponents as well as labeling them terrorism threats and a danger to democracy. In Germany’s case, the opposition conservative Alternative for Germany party (AfD) is actively surveilled in certain federal states, with membership in the party the only prerequisite for agents being able to read emails and listen in on telephone calls of these private citizens.

With the BfV operating hundreds of right-wing extremist accounts, the agency argues that it is about “playing a little right-wing radical yourself” in order to gain the trust of other users. The employees of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution are likely to conduct “propaganda” for this and sometimes also commit crimes such as “incitement to hatred.”

However, what exactly these extremist accounts are posting that involve “incitement to hatred” is unclear, as there is little to no public oversight regarding these activities.

“In order to be really credible, it is not enough to share or like what others say, you also have to make statements yourself. That means that the agents also bully and agitate,” says the report of an agent who claims to have joined the agency to “do something against right-wing extremists.” This involves actively encouraging people in their worldview, but she says it is her job to “feed” the scene.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said Beijing could invoke its Anti-Secession Law to seek reunification with Taiwan, in an escalation of rhetoric over the self-ruled island.

Wang also warned that Washington’s pro-Taiwan, anti-Beijing approach might have a “subversive impact” on US-China ties, during a meeting with former US secretary of state Henry Kissinger on Monday. Wang is in New York for the general debate of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly this week.

It follows US President Joe Biden’s latest pledge to defend Taiwan if Beijing were to attack the island – the fourth time he has vowed to do so – and after the Taiwan Policy Act of 2022 cleared a US Senate panel last week.

Beijing – which sees Taiwan as a breakaway province that must be reunited, by force if necessary – lodged an official protest with the US over Biden’s remarks.

They were made in an interview on CBS’ 60 Minutes that aired on Sunday, when he also said decisions about independence were up to Taiwan. The White House later insisted that US policy on Taiwan – known as “strategic ambiguity” – had not changed.

It comes amid soaring tensions across the Taiwan Strait after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taipei in August, angering Beijing, which responded with unprecedented military drills around the island.

“Achieving peaceful reunification is our greatest wish, and we will do our best to achieve it. But it must be seen that the more rampant ‘Taiwan independence’ is, the less likely the peaceful resolution of the Taiwan issue will be,” Wang told Kissinger, according to a Chinese foreign ministry statement on Tuesday.

“There is an old saying in China: it is better to lose a thousand troops than an inch of land. This is the will and determination of the Chinese people. If the Anti-Secession Law is violated, China will take resolute actions in accordance with the law to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said, without elaborating.
