Improving cross-border payments with multi-CBDCs

Cross-border payments today can be slow and expensive. Unlike domestic payments, where banks can pay each other directly on a single national payments platform, there is no single international platform today for cross-border payments and settlements.

Instead, the correspondent banking model is used, where banks hold foreign currency accounts with each other. A single cross-border payment could pass through multiple correspondent banks, using the foreign currencies held with them. Each leg of the overall transaction takes time and effort to process, with fees levied that add up quickly and are passed on to customers, resulting in slow and costly cross-border payments.

A multi-currency common settlement platform would enable transacting parties to pay each other in different currencies directly, without the need for intermediaries such as correspondent banks.

Following the announcement of US President Joe Biden's visit to Saudi Arabia next month, multiple US lawmakers expressed their concerns, CNN reported, ignoring, however, the Israeli occupation crimes against Palestinians.

Kaine said that he thinks Biden's coming meeting with Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman (MBS) is "a big mistake," adding that "I'd meet with (the) foreign minister. I'd meet with the Saudi ambassador. I'd meet with the King, but I wouldn't meet with MBS."

On his part, Connecticut Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy, another member of Senate Foreign Relations, said that he has "real worries" over the Saudi Arabia trip.

"I think I need to hear more from the administration to understand what kind of commitments they've gotten from the kingdom to change their ways," he mentioned.

Alleviate political impact of record-high US gasoline prices

Similarly, South Dakota Senate Republican Whip John Thune said he wishes that the US President "would focus on American energy and he wouldn't have to deal with the Crown Prince."

"I think it's unfortunate an American president is put in that position," Thune added.

According to CNN, "there's little doubt that Biden is making his trip in order to persuade the Saudis to pump more crude oil to help alleviate the political impact of record-high US gasoline prices."

Discussing human rights issues

White House officials said that Biden plans to discuss human rights issues with bin Salman but underscored that the US President is looking to rebuild his relationship with the kingdom.

"We are not overlooking any conduct that happened before the President took office," White House Spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre claimed Tuesday in regard to Khashoggi's murder.

CNN mentioned that an organization consisting of the families of individuals killed during the September 11, 2001 attacks urged the US President earlier this month to ensure accountability for the attacks and make it a key priority of his discussions with Saudi officials.

However, Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby did not confirm whether conveying the organization's message would be on Biden's agenda.

On Tuesday, the White House announced that Biden will visit the Middle East from July 13-16, starting his trip with a visit to "Israel", before he heads to Saudi Arabia on July 15-16.

Biden Takes Aim at America’s Largest Oil Field, Threatens to Stop Production, Sending Gas Prices Soaring

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is preparing to cite the United States’ largest oil field for violating ozone pollution standards, a move that will threaten the end of oil and gas production in the region.

According to the Texas Governor’s Office, the proposed regulations will directly affect the Permian Basin, the largest oil field in the United States, accounting for 95,000,000 gallons of gasoline per day or 40% of the oil produced domestically.

This would be just one more move from Biden’s administration to impact the lives of every American by reducing the fuel supply and causing gas prices to soar well beyond Biden’s record of $5 per gallon.

“Even as Americans are struggling with $5 gas and record-breaking inflation, team Biden continues to double down on their political commitments to ‘end all fossil fuels,'” former EPA Chief of Staff Mandy Gunasekara told reporters Wednesday.

According to a report by Bloomberg, regulators would have three years to propose solutions to the violations. However, ongoing regulatory uncertainty common to Biden’s ever-increasing climate change initiatives is likely to disincentivize new permits and drilling in the oil field.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott reacted strongly to the proposal and called the EPA to drop the proposal.

According to a letter he sent to the administration Monday, Abbott pointed out the direct impact on the lives of Americans. Abbott pledged that if he did not hear back from the administration by June 29, he would take action to “protect the production of oil—and the gasoline that comes from it.”

Abbott called out the hypocrisy of the Biden White House, which has claimed empathy for Americans struggling to afford gas. He said that the EPA’s move would only make things worse for the nation.

The letter states, “You say that you want ‘to bring refineries back online to get more gas to the pump at lower prices…’ That goal… could be thwarted if the EPA is allowed to move forward with its discretionary regulatory process.”

He also states, “If you let the EPA move forward with the untimely and unnecessary measures that accompany redesignation, that action will put 25 percent of American oil supply at risk. That, in turn, could substantially increase the cost of gasoline.”

As of Thursday, there has been no direct response from the White House or the EPA.

The Department of State in Washington, DC, would join efforts with the Israeli occupation and several Arab states to bolster their aerial military capacities, which would offer them "protection" against Iran. The collaboration was part of proposed bipartisan legislation that will be introduced in Congress on Thursday.

This constitutes a new attempt by the US to strengthen its allies in West Asia following the signing of several normalization agreements between Arab states and the Israeli occupation.

Congressional aides have stressed that this proposal would prompt them to cooperate closely within the region.

The military aid would be provided to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the rest of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), as well as Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, and the Israeli occupation. The draft legislation said the parties to the agreement would be provided with a wide array of arms and equipment that would "protect" them "from cruise and ballistic missiles, manned and unmanned aerial systems, and rocket attacks from Iran, and for other purposes."

Egypt and Jordan had normalized ties with "Tel Aviv" in 1980 and 1994, respectively, while Bahrain and the UAE joined the negotiations table with the occupation decades later in 2020 under the auspices of the United States. Iraq and the rest of the GCC, on the other hand, did not join the flock of normalizers yet.

Congress has long been championing security cooperation between Arab states and the Israeli occupation, especially after the latest round of normalization in 2020. This comes as "Tel Aviv" and Riyadh are expanding cooperation in several areas, mainly in the trade sector.

Israeli media reported Wednesday that relations between "Israel" and Saudi Arabia, "the most important Arab state in the Gulf", were growing warmer, with a new agreement on the horizon that will bring about new flight paths from occupied Palestine and through Saudi airspace

Though Riyadh did not normalize ties with the Israeli occupation yet, unlike Abu Dhabi and Manama, it has already kicked off economic normalization with "Tel Aviv". The Kingdom is already issuing special visas to Israeli settlers, with Israeli and Saudi sources saying there has been a hike in signed deals recently and advanced contact concerning investments of Saudi businessmen and investment funds in "Israel".

Dozens of Israeli businessmen traveled to Saudi Arabia for trade deals in recent months, Israeli media reported in late May.

The bids for the Israeli occupation to collaborate closely with regional states are underway due to the parties' shared "concerns" about Iran, the Washington Post reported.

Greater cooperation between "Tel Aviv" and its regional allies is pushing US lawmakers to discuss ways their military could operate differently in West Asia, as per Jon Alterman, a senior vice president of the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

All of the names on the bill are either partners or allies of the United States, and though they all get the majority of their air defense systems from Washington, which also helps them figure out how to operate them, the US reportedly does not cooperate with the, and according to security experts, closer cooperation would provide all the members to the agreement with a better early warning system.

If the bill makes it through the House of Representatives and passes the Senate floor, the Arab states will see themselves sharing a radar with the Israeli occupation.

It is worth noting, however, that relations between the United States and Saudi Arabia have been souring lately, especially as Washington is asking the Gulf states to pump out more oil to "stabilize" the energy market tilted by the anti-Russian sanctions while the latter is declining its requests.

Statins Increase Diabetes Risk by 38%

According to a 2020 report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,1 34.1 million U.S. adults had diagnosed or undiagnosed diabetes in 2018. There were slightly more men than women, and more white, non-Hispanic people with diabetes than Black, Asian or Hispanic people combined.

Just two years later, these numbers have gone up, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,2 with 37.3 million people having diagnosed and undiagnosed diabetes. A total of 96 million over the age of 18 have prediabetes, which is 38% of the U.S. adult population.

These numbers demonstrate that diabetes is already at epidemic proportions in the U.S. A study published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology 3 found that adults taking statin medications to control cholesterol levels have a higher risk of developing insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes than the general population. However, researchers have repeatedly failed to find evidence that high cholesterol is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

As I have discussed in many previous articles, three factors have a far greater influence on your cardiovascular disease risk and, to some degree, are interrelated. These are insulin resistance,4 chronic inflammation5 and high iron levels.6 Unfortunately, these primary contributors are rarely the focus of cardiovascular disease prevention and treatment in conventional medicine.

Instead, statins, also called cholesterol-lowering drugs, are the go-to defense in Western medicine, which led to the drug once holding the infamous title of the most profitable drug. Dr. Malcolm Kendrick7 is a general practitioner in Cheshire, England, and the author of three books, including “A Statin Nation: Damaging Millions in a Brave New Post-Health World.” He estimates that the pharmaceutical industry has grossed more than $1 trillion from statins.

Statins Increase Risk of Diabetes by 38%

A team at Erasmus University Medical Center in The Netherlands published the study found in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology.8 The researchers wrote that several epidemiological studies had shown an association between statins and diabetes, but this team sought to analyze the associated glycemic traits with Type 2 diabetes.

They included 9,535 people in the Rotterdam Study who did not have diabetes at the start of the study. They followed the participants for 15 years and found those who used statin medications had a higher concentration of serum fasting insulin and insulin resistance as compared to those who had never used a statin.
