Ukraine shells another Russian village, governor claims

A third village in the Belgorod region has now been shelled by Kiev’s forces, regional governor claims, declaring emergency

Ukrainian forces have now shelled three villages in Russia’s Belgorod region, governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Thursday. The area is under a state of emergency and the settlements, near the border, are being evacuated. The attacks caused damage to buildings and wounded an unspecified number of civilians.

“Our village of Zhuravlevka was shelled from the Ukrainian side,” Gladkov said on Telegram. “There is damage to homes and community buildings."

Gladkov initially said he had "no information about injuries or deaths,” but later revealed that there were wounded among the residents.

Zhuravlevka is near the two country's shared frontier. Two other border villages, Spodaryushino and Bezymeno, also came under artillery fire earlier on Thursday. Residents were evacuated and there were no reported injuries.

Authorities in the Bryansk region – also bordering Ukraine – reported two attacks. Two Ukrainian helicopters allegedly launched rockets at the village of Klimovo, some 40 km north of the border, shortly after noon. The attack injured seven civilians, including a child.

A short while later, Ukrainian mortars apparently opened fire on a group of 30 or so refugees attempting to cross into Russia at a checkpoint south of Klimovo. Two civilian cars were damaged, but no one was injured, Russian border guards said.

The series of artillery and air attacks comes after the Russian Defense Ministry warned Ukraine against such actions. Bringing up unspecified incidents of sabotage and attacks inside Russia, the ministry’s spokesman Major-General Igor Konashenkov said theRussian armed forces will “strike at the decision-making centers, including Kiev– something we have so far refrained from,” if the attacks continue.

Calling it a goodwill gesture to promote peace talks, Russia had withdrawn its troops from the Kiev, Chernigov and Sumy regions of Ukraine at the end of March. At this point, however, Ukrainian forces launched attacks into Russia – targeting a military encampment near Belgorod on March 29 and sending helicopters to strike a nearby civilian fuel storage facility several days later.

The extension of the federal mask mandate for public transportation is based on “more COVID theater” and is “the Biden equivalent of continuing the beatings until morale improves,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said in a sharp statement on Wednesday.

“Biden’s extension of the transportation mask mandate simply prolongs the misery that passengers and flight attendants are being forced to endure,” the governor said in a statement following the news of federal officials extending the mask requirement for public transportation yet again.

“This is not evidence-based, but simply more COVID theater,” he continued. “This is the Biden equivalent of continuing the beatings until morale improves. I’m glad Florida and other states are fighting this mandate in court.”

The sharp statement followed news of the Biden administration extending the mask mandate, forcing individuals to continue to mask up while on planes, trains, buses, and other modes of public transportation. The mandate was set to expire April 18, but officials opted to extend it two more weeks, with no immediate end in sight, as they have continued to extend the deadlines throughout the entirety of Biden’s presidency. This is despite the fact that Biden, prior to taking office, pitched “just” 100 days of masking, deeming it everyone’s “patriotic” duty.

DeSantis has long spoken out and fought against the coercive coronavirus restrictions imposed by the Biden administration, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) vaccine mandate, which the Supreme Court struck down this year. Last month, DeSantis and Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody (R) announced a lawsuit over the Biden administration’s extended mask mandate on planes and at transportation hubs. Twenty other states joined the lawsuit as well.

“This rule, this order is completely outside the bounds of the scope of federal power; as we have argued successfully in numerous other cases, the CDC and the federal government and the Biden administration never had the power to issue this order originally,” Moody said at the time.

“This must be lifted,” she said, adding that they “have a lot of faith in the court that they will agree with our legal analysis.”

I take issue with the popular conservative/anon idea that, following the Q drops, people are ‘waking up’ and soon all our current politicians, judiciary, police and ‘complicit’ doctors will be sent off to the public gallows and we will be liberated from tyranny. On the evening of April 13, rumors surfaced on social media that Ukrainian forces had attacked the Russian cruiser Moskva and caused severe damage on board the ship. In the beginning, people were skeptical of this assertion because of similar (but unverified) previous claims about Russian Navy ships hit by Ukrainian fires. Patrol cruiser Vasily Bykov and Frigate Admiral Essen were rumored to be damaged but such rumors turned out to be not true.

At midnight, several Russian media outlets, including state-owned RIA Novosti and the TASS agency, confirmed an explosion aboard the Moskva cruiser. While the Russian Ministry of Defence didn’t release a statement on this incident, the source of the Russian media was the Defence Ministry.

According to RIA Novosti, Moskva suffered a detonation from its own ammunition, and the crew was completely evacuated. TASS Agency shared similar statements to define the reason as “a blast of ammunition”.

“A fire and subsequent munitions blast have caused serious damage to the Moskva missile cruiser of the Russian Black Sea fleet, the crew was evacuated, the Russian defense ministry said on Thursday.”

Given Ukraine’s claims and the Russian media statements, it is assumed that the cruiser Moskva was hit by a long-range missile. An official statement about what weapon was used to fire the missile is not yet available, but according to a statement by the governor of Odesa circulating on social media Telegram, Ukraine hit the ship with its locally designed and manufactured Neptune anti-ship missile.

The Neptune missiles were to be delivered to the Ukrainian Armed Forces in April 2022. Ukraine’s need for coastal missiles has always been an issue since the beginning of the war, but Ukraine hasn’t deployed these missiles even though Russia’s Black Sea Fleet has operated near its territorial waters and fired land-based missiles. According to many experts and analysts, the delivery schedule was interrupted due to the war, and Ukraine doesn’t have an anti-ship missile capability in its arsenal. At a time when Ukraine and the United Kingdom have been holding talks on the delivery of anti-ship missiles to Ukraine, the attack on the Moskva turns out to be a surprising incident.

Another claim made by the Ukrainian media was that TB2 Bayraktar drones were used to distract the Russian cruiser and launch the anti-ship missiles at Moskva when it was busy pursuing the Turkish-made UAV. This claim seems unrealistic, as the Moskva had the capabilities to deal with multiple threats.

According to Russian state media Ria Novosti, quoting the Russian Ministry of Defense:

“During the towing of the Moskva cruiser to the port of destination, due to damage to the hull received during the fire from the detonation of ammunition, the ship lost stability. In the conditions of stormy seas, the ship sank,”

The report appears dubious because the conditions in the Black Sea today at 17:00 local time were nowhere near “stormy” with wind speed of 14 knots and wave height of around 1 meter:
