Things are not always what they seem or what interested circles want them to seem. More
than ever, in a turbulent time like the present, critical thinking is required, also and especially from Catholics, also from priests. It becomes alarming when a counterpart repeats almost verbatim what was heard on the television news the night before, but remains inaccessible to other arguments that were not heard there. Supervised thinking, as done by mainstream media, may be convenient, but it is not an acceptable form of information gathering. In order to sharpen vigilance, this should be demonstrated by a concrete example with a current reference, because it also has to do with Ukraine, where violence is currently reigning. That it has come to this, has indirectly probably also to do with the example. In contrast to the mainstream, however, no opinion is to be given here,
but the need is to be awakened to question, to examine for oneself and perhaps also to recognize and admit to oneself that and how manipulation is taking place, that one has
perhaps been manipulated oneself, in order to be immune to it in the future.
The shock of Trump's election victory that changed much.
In November 2016, Donald Trump was unexpectedly elected U.S. president, something the establishment had not expected, neither the Republican nor the Democratic establishment. The establishment in the transatlantic satellite states is also linked to this establishment and is constantly forced to adapt. The fight against this election victory began the very day after the election. It
happened on two levels. Trump had already been discredited on a broad front throughout
the pre-election and election campaign with the intention of making him appear unelectable, even "impossible," in the eyes of the public. In the U.S., however, this strategy did not work. In Europe, on the other hand, it did, as polls showed. This is proof that opinion control is more firmly established and more densely developed in Europe. This fact should already be reason enough to become alert and to subject the media landscape and one's own media consumption to a critical review. Above all, the question of the credibility scale arises. In order to understand why a mainstream medium presents consumers with what and how, one must know who owns the medium or who controls it and what interests are connected with it.
After Trump's election victory, the strategy changed: On one level, the new president
was directly attacked in order to hinder his ability to act and to boycott his term in office;
on the other level, structural interventions were intended to prevent an election victory like Trump's from happening again. The latter is done primarily through censorship of the
Internet. After Barack Obama's election in 2008, the Internet was celebrated as an
instrument that would finally make real "grassroots democracy" a reality. At least that's what the mainstream told the people. After Donald Trump's election victory, the blame was placed on the Internet, which was "dangerous" and "subversive" because it was without control. Since then, increasingly radical censorship measures have been established to force social networks in particular under the same establishment control to which the classic mainstream media are already subject. The censorship is arbitrary and is directed in each case against political opponents and undesirable opinions, whether in the 2020 US election campaign, whether on Corona … Censorship can be applied at will.

A few years ago, a team of Kazakh scientists published a paper claiming to have discovered a Wow! signal in the genetic code of living beings. The code structure, so they claimed, is statistically so striking that its origin could be explained only by the presumption of an intelligent actor.
There are coded messages in DNA, nobody knows what they mean yet - they say, but they do exist because math is real and is a call to pay attention for some and for others denial, accusations of fraud, professional greed and grandstanding. Familiar cult tactic used again many scientists whose work demonstrates that there is more to life than the world we see via our natural sense perception.
"The authors of the paper are the mathematician Vladimir shCherbak from Al-Farabi University in Kazakhstan and the physicist Maxim Makukov from the Fessenkow Astrophysical Institute. The publisher of Icarus, a refereed journal, is the American Astronomical Society (AAS), an association of professional astronomers. The journal is mainly de-voted to initial publications in planetary scienceand is neither esoteric nor religious."
In order to track down the alleged Wow! signal, shCherbak and Makukov first divided the 20 genetically encoded amino acids into two groups: In the first group, they listed all amino acids that are sufficiently defined by the first two bases of a base triplet (meaning that any change of the third base would not change the amino acid) (Fig. 1). A base triplet or codon is a sequence of three bases (“letters”) on the genetic molecule DNA (or on the RNA) coding for a specific amino acid. The authors placed the remaining amino acids into a second group. Then they calculated the nucleon number (molecular weight) of every amino acid in both groups, as well as the nucleon number of every amino acid basic structure (“block nucleons”) and side chain. Finally, they sorted the numbers and added them up.
After this operation, shCherbak and Makukov came across numerical ratios in which the divisor 37 appears again and again: In the first group, the nucleon sum of all side chains is 333 (= 37 x 3²), that of all “block nucleons” 592 (= 37 x 4²), and the total 925 = (37 x 5²). Moreover: “With 037 cancelled out, this leads to 3² + 4² = 5² – representation of the Egyptian triangle…” (p. 6). The number 37 also appears in the second group; the total number of nucleons in the amino acids is 1110 (= 30 x 37).

Russia expels US diplomats
The American embassy in Moscow was handed a list of those declared ‘persona non grata’ over the “hostile actions” of Washington
Russia has announced the expulsion of an unspecified number of US diplomats in response to Washington’s order to expel 12 staffers from Moscow’s mission to the United Nations.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that on Wednesday it summoned “a senior diplomat of the US diplomatic mission in Moscow” and handed him a “a note with a list of deported American diplomatic employees declared ‘persona non grata’.”
The ministry revealed that it was a retaliation to the expulsion of Russian diplomats from the UN mission in New York and of a Russian employee from the UN Secretariat.
“The American side was firmly told that any hostile actions of the United States against Russia would receive a decisive and adequate response,” the statement reads.
Washington notified Moscow of its decision to declare 12 Russian diplomats persona non grata at the end of February. The US claimed the Russians who were expelled had been “engaging in espionage activities that are adverse to our national security.”
Moscow condemned the decision at the time, blaming Washington for a severe violation of commitments and calling on it to show “common sense” and to avoid further escalation. The Foreign Ministry said then that it would prefer not to expel American diplomats again but the “impudence” and “unwillingness or inability to negotiate” of the US might not leave any other choice.
A week prior, the US also ordered the expulsion of the second highest ranking diplomat at the Russian embassy in Washington, Sergey Trepelkov. Late last year, the US ordered 27 Russian diplomats to leave. Previously, about 200 Russian diplomats worked in the US.
On March 21, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that relations between Moscow and Washington were “on the brink of collapse.” Another harsh statement was made after US President Joe Biden, in response to Russia’s military offensive in Ukraine, called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin a “war criminal,” a “murderous dictator,” and “a pure thug.”

Trump's statements on Biden's Ukraine connection.
Trump's obstruction of office came primarily from special investigations into "influencing the U.S. election campaign" in 2016, a put-upon predator's tale that ended in nothing against Trump, as honest observers had
predicted, but kept the president under a constant indictment that was unceasingly spread by the mainstream media.
Trump had also been accused of wanting material from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenskyj, who has been in office since 2019, to discredit Joe Biden, who was Trump's opponent in the 2020 presidential election and is now the incumbent U.S. president. The mainstream media, 95 percent anti-Trump in the U.S., made a scandal out of it. Trump had tried shameful things, namely to construct "false accusations" against Biden and to introduce them into the US election campaign via Ukraine.
Trump had claimed that the Biden family personally enriched itself in Ukraine thanks to Joe Biden's vice presidency. In plain language: the office of state had been misused for private interests. This is a legally
and morally reprehensible act, which also has very concrete political consequences in the
U.S. relationship with the country, in this case Ukraine. The Democrats around Biden and
the mainstream supporting him reacted indignantly, denied everything and went on the
counterattack. They claimed everything was a lie to hurt Biden. The phone conversation
between Trump and Selenskyj, when Trump inquired about Biden's dealings in Ukraine, had been intercepted by an intelligence agency and played to the public.
What was known was that Biden's son, Hunter Biden, had been given a consulting contract with Ukraine's state-owned gas company Burisma under Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko that paid him a whopping $50,000 a month. But why does the son of a U.S. vice president receive such a consulting contract in Ukraine? Consultant for what? The consulting contract no longer exists because father Biden ran for president, but Hunter Biden is supposed to continue to collect for every cubic meter of gas that flows through the pipelines through Ukraine to the West - Russian gas, by the way, which relies on the pipelines through Ukraine and must be paid to Burisma for its transit.
The Obama/Biden administration (2009-2017) was very active in Ukraine as part of its anti-Russian policy. First by removing Ukraine from its historically close economic entanglement with Russia and reorienting it to the West, then directly by supporting the 2014 Maidan coup and installing a U.S.-friendly president, in transition Oleksandr Turchynov, then the aforementioned Poroshenko.
Were there countertrades going on? Not only political, but also private? Were there even quid pro quos?
Is it coming to light a year after Biden's swearing-in?
Trump was portrayed in 2020 as a liar trying to rig the election, but a year after Biden was sworn in as U.S. president, even leading U.S. media outlets that had supported Biden's campaign and discredited Trump are now making corruption allegations against Biden's son, including the main left-liberal establishment media outlet, the New York Times. Hunter Biden had allegedly hidden from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service money he had received in Ukraine. This, according to the accusations, was not only about possible tax evasion, but also about the dubious origin of the money.

Biden Senior, who is the extended arm of the establishment in U.S. politics and thus globally, has always had a reputation for being a rather unscrupulous lobbyist. And so back to what Trump tried unsuccessfully to uncover in 2020 - due to the short time until the election date - and now seems to be coming to light.
In January 2018, Joe Biden, presidential
candidate-to-be of the Democratic Party, spoke to a very select group, the Council on
Foreign Relations. This is the oldest of the most influential existing circles of power,
founded by the Rockefeller family in the 1920s. Influence is pooled and exercised in these circles. This was a conversation moderated by Richard Haass, Chairman of the CFR. The event apparently served to reinforce the conviction of the influential mentors that he, Biden, was the suitable candidate for the U.S. presidency. In the process, Biden boasted (see video, starting at min. 52.14) that in 2016, as U.S. vice president, he traveled to Kiev to force
the removal of Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin.
Shokin, which Biden did not say,
was at the time investigating Burisma, the Ukrainian gas company with which Biden Junior also did business (and counter-business), in a corruption scandal. Shokin had made a name for himself as an anti-corruption investigator since 1998 and had been appointed by Poroshenko as Ukraine's Prosecutor General in early 2015 and also as a member of Ukraine's National Security Council a few days later.
Verbatim, Biden told the invited guests
that he had traveled to Ukraine as vice president with a billion dollars in U.S. taxpayer
money in his luggage to support the U.S.-friendly Poroshenko government: "I remember convincing our [U.S. government] team, our leaders, that we should provide loan
guarantees. And I traveled, I think for the twelfth or thirteenth time, to Kiev. And I was to
announce that there would be another tranche of a billion dollars. And I had gotten a commitment from [President] Poroshenko and [Prime Minister] Yatsenyuk that they would
take action against the Prosecutor General. But they did not do that. They said they would
go to a press conference. I said, 'No, I will not. We're not going to give you the billion dollars,' and they said, 'You can't do that, you don't have the authority, you're not the President.' I said, call him [Obama]. I said, I am telling you that you are not getting the billion dollars. I will leave in about six hours. If the Attorney General is not fired, you are not going to get the money. And, damn it, the Attorney General was fired. And they put in a reliable person."
On April 3, 2016, Poroshenko signed the decree firing Shokin. That on the subject
of "influence peddling" in other countries, which mainstream media chalk up to others but take for granted by the U.S. government. In any case, the investigation of Hunter Biden was off the table. The new "reliable person" then declared that no irregularities had been found.
In the 2020 campaign, when Trump spoke of it and a found laptop of Hunter Biden surfaced
a few days before Election Day, the mainstream denied it. The New York Times also claimed that behind Trump's allegations was a covert, or dirty, operation by Russian intelligence to influence U.S. elections. They replayed the same record they had played against Trump in 2016.

Ukraine compares itself to Nazi Germany
The Ukrainian parliament equated its own struggles with those of the Third Reich
Ukraine’s parliament on Wednesday appealed again to the West to impose a “no-fly zone” over the country. However, the parliament raised eyebrows online by comparing the devastation suffered by its cities to that suffered by Nazi Germany during Allied bombing raids. The bizarre choice of comparison is the latest Nazi-related statement to come out of Kiev.
An image posted to Twitter by Ukraine’s ‘Verkhovna Rada’ (Parliament) portrays a bombed out building in Hamburg in 1943 alongside similar damage to the Ukrainian city of Kharkov in 2022.
The text above the image reads “When the Sky is Open,” and a message in English demands that the West “#CloseTheSky over Ukraine.”
“Close The Sky” is a reference to the possibility of a NATO-imposed ‘no-fly zone’ over Ukraine, a step Kiev has demanded but leaders in Washington and Brussels have thus far refused to take. It would involve NATO committing to shooting down Russian aircraft over Ukraine, a step that would bring the alliance into open war with Russia and, in the words of US President Joe Biden, lead to “a third world war.”
Bizarrely, the image shared by the parliament asks the same allies that bombed Hamburg in 1943 to fight on Ukraine’s behalf today. The Rada did not explain why it chose to compare Kharkov with Hamburg, especially considering the fact that Kharkov itself was bombed by Germany during the Second World War, which would have made for a comparison that wouldn’t involve comparing Ukraine with Nazi Germany.
The analogy drew some puzzled comments online. “You aren't supposed to compare yourselves to Nazis in public,” one commenter joked. “Man, they really don’t know what optics are,” another quipped.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused the Ukrainian government of harboring sympathies to Nazi Germany, and in a speech announcing the start of Russia’s military offensive on Ukraine last month, he said that one of Russia’s goals was to “denazify” the country.
Aside from integrating the neo-Nazi ‘Azov’ batallion into its military, the Ukrainian government has launched efforts to portray its people as racially distinct from Russians, whom politicians in Kiev have openly referred to as “orcs.”
Nazi collaborator Stepan Bandera is considered a hero to Ukrainian nationalists, and just last week a television host in Ukraine, Fahruddin Sharafmal, caused controversy when he approvingly quoted Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann in calling for the murder of Russians and their children.

New accusations against Biden
In these days, another accusation was added: Hunter Biden is alleged to have been involved in the establishment of biological research laboratories with U.S. participation in Ukraine with his company Rosemont Seneca Technology Partners, one of the main investors in Metabiota. The issue was raised by the Russian side in the wake of the military intervention in Ukraine. The U.S. government initially denied, and the mainstream raged about Russian fake news and "disinformation." In the meantime, however, the U.S. government has had to admit as much. On March 11, Russia referred the
issue to the UN Security Council. Although previously denied, the U.S. has since admitted
the existence of the labs in Ukraine, as well as U.S. involvement. It continues to deny that
biological weapons research was conducted there. The background is the same as in the
bio-lab in Wuhan, from which the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus is suspected to have originated, regardless of whether or not biological weapons research was actually carried out in Ukraine or Wuhan. In the U.S., laws prohibit certain highly dangerous and bioethically unacceptable research. In the U.S., after such a law came into effect, the Obama administration pretended to comply with it and ended relevant research in the U.S., but in reality, as a great deal of evidence shows, moved it abroad, to countries where there are no legal prohibitions, including Wuhan and also Ukraine. Ukraine, not least under the influence of the Obama/Biden administration, had turned into a Wild West in the field of bioethics. In addition to allegedly banned biological research, the country also became an Eldorado for womb rental aka surrogacy, where well-heeled clientele can order children.
On the issue of U.S. biological research, the Neue Zürcher Zeitung wrote on March 12:
"But first, the claim that bio-weapons are being researched in some laboratories has nothing to do with a theory. It may be a misstatement of fact. Second, mere denials by the U.S. and Ukraine on such a sensitive matter are not worth much in the search for truth. For example, the U.S. also vehemently denied for years that it had set up prisons in Poland and elsewhere to treat terrorism suspects using methods banned in the United States. Only years later did the Polish government confirm this."
The authenticity of Hunter Biden's laptop confirmed
Now the authenticity of Hunter Biden's laptop has been confirmed. This no longer has any
influence on the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, but it does show that the public was misled at the time - and not by "conspiracy theorists" or "Russian secret services", but by the mainstream media and the now occupant of the White House.
The evaluation of the laptop (Maxey had received a copy of the hard drive from Rudy Giuliani, former mayor of New York and lawyer for Donald Trump) was carried out in "tireless work" (Maike Hickson) by one man in particular, the devout Catholic Jack Maxey, a former associate of Steve Bannon. It is thanks to him that Biden's laptop is back in the headlines. As Maike Hickson reconstructed for LifeSiteNews, Maxey announced last Feb. 16 that he had been in contact with the New York Times and had provided it with material from the Biden laptop. The newspaper, which had spoken of "Russian disinformation" during the 2020 campaign, reviewed the material and confirmed the authenticity of the laptop for the first time. Biden had left the laptop in April 2019 in a repair shop in the state of Delaware because of moisture damage. The repair was never paid for and the laptop was never picked up. The store's owner in Wilmington, Delaware, John Paul Mac Isaac, eventually notified the FBI because the customer was registered as Hunter Biden and there is a notation on the laptop that it belongs to the Biden Foundation, named after Hunter Biden's late brother. The FBI seized the computer. Apparently, however, copies of the hard drive had been made earlier and leaked to the New York Post.

In October 2020, Rudy Giuliani urged the Attorney General's Office of the State of Delaware (the Bidens' place of residence and the location of the repair shop) to open an investigation on suspicion of criminal dealings, for which evidence was found on the computer. So far, all that is known from the FBI is the seizure file. Biden's campaign team and the mainstream media claimed that the FBI was involved because it was investigating a "Russian disinformation campaign." If Giuliani's hints made at the time were confirmed, Biden's counterattack would have been a red herring. The FBI has not yet commented on the matter. Last March 16, the New York Times now wrote:
"The email and others in the cache have been confirmed as authentic by people familiar with them and the investigation."
According to Hickson, "As numerous observers note, The New York Times has yet to correct its earlier statements on the matter. But the story is finally getting traction, with numerous media outlets calling out the 51 intelligence experts who had declared just before the 2020 election that this laptop was Russian disinformation. Senator Ben Johnson has also criticized the New York Times and former intelligence experts for their role during the presidential election in denying the authenticity of the laptop. Joe Biden had denied the authenticity of the laptop before his presidential election, assuring the American public that 'there is nothing to all this. It's all slander. Every major organization, every serious investigator has pointed out that this is a smear. This is a classic smear.'"
There is no doubt that the contents of the laptop, had its authenticity been confirmed in 2020, would have been election-influencing. That is likely to play no small role in the
upcoming U.S. midterm elections in November, which will elect the House of

Jack Maxey announced on March 9, shortly
before the New York Times confirmed the authenticity of the laptop, that he would not only turn over all the material to law enforcement, but also make it available to the world public.
"This is all coming to light now," said Maxey, who indicated March 19 that he had notified

Yesterday, Maxey wrote that by the end of the week, all the material would be available to anyone worldwide. He also issued a warning:

It will be seen how these words are to be understood. In any case, he says, the revelations are not just about dubious business dealings and a conflation of the Biden family's political and private interests. Hickson recalls that it was also announced by Maxey that some photos and films of Hunter Biden on the laptop "concern underage girls and even his own niece."
When asked about his personal safety, Maxey showed his rosary. To which Hickson commented: "Let us all pray for this devout Catholic. May he win his fight for the truth and for our country. If the Biden administration begins to crumble under the laptop revelations, it will be due in large part to the work of Maxey."
In the end, the question remains as to why the New York Times is flip-flopping. Is it just the
pressure generated by Maxey's announced revelations? Or has the decision already been
made that Biden is no longer a presidential candidate in 2024, so there is no need to give
such consideration to himself? One will see.

Freedom.
It is only humans, rather than angels, who have the potential to develop this highest form of freedom, because it is only humans who have descended this deeply into matter, where the divine and spiritual powers are no longer active. This is also why only human beings are capable of becoming atheists and denying the spirit – the angels cannot do this because they know the true reality, whereas through materialism and living in the realm of maya (illusion), we humans are free to decide what we choose to believe – and of course we will often make “wrong” choices. It is all part and parcel of our journey towards wisdom.
I’ll be writing a little bit more about this in Part 3 but for now I’ll just mention that for all of its downsides, Steiner tells us that materialism remains the vehicle for the initial development of human freedom. It was the task of materialistic science to lead us away from the overwhelming dominance of theology and theocracy in human affairs, and from the unfreedom that had for so long been associated with them. And, as Steiner repeatedly asserts, it is in our relationship as spiritual beings to the physical world that the possibility for human freedom first manifests itself. Put differently, materialism for all its faults and limitations had a very important task to perform, and it needed time to complete it – and if Steiner is correct, it’s still got another 250 years or so to run its course.
But what of the first nine orders of angels? I’ve prepared a table below to set out the thoughts of Steiner on the celestial order. Steiner seems to have adopted the scheme devised by a 6th century theological writer known rather mysteriously as pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite. This same scheme was taken up by Thomas Aquinas, the great Dominican teacher (whom some claim to have been a previous incarnation of Steiner) and subsequently endorsed by the Catholic Church.
Now, I’m someone who finds the concept of “orders” and “hierarchy” very off-putting. It conjures up images of some kind of 19th century aristocratic or militaristic order of society, with everyone knowing their place:
“The rich man in his castle,
The poor man at his gate,
God made them high and lowly,
And ordered their estate.”
(These words come from a verse – usually omitted today – of the hymn All Things Bright and Beautiful.) Steiner encourages us not to see the orders of angels as a hierarchical, military-style ranking but more as a metaphor for some very profound truths about the unfolding of evolution. I think we should also bear in mind that these orders and hierarchies are working and co-operating together, rather than maintaining some kind of caste-like rigidity of separation.
I have to say that it is very confusing to try to follow all the different names and groupings that are given to the angels, not least by Steiner himself, who seems to use the words “order” and “hierarchy” interchangeably; plus there does seem to be some confusion among other writers about this topic. In this posting and in the table below I’m using the term “order” for one specific type of angel (eg the archangels are the 8th order); and “hierarchy” for a group of angels whose work goes together (eg the 1st Hierarchy consists of Seraphim, Cherubim and Thrones). Anyway, I hope that this table will at least give you a place to start in assembling your own thoughts on the matter.
In Part 2 of this 3-part posting, I will write about the angelic orders that Steiner mentions in the College Imagination, that is to say the angels of the 7th, 8th and 9th orders, who are the ones closest to us as human beings; and what these angels are seeking to achieve for humankind at the present time. In Part 3, I will write about Steiner’s concept of evil and the “adversely commanded” angels Lucifer and Ahriman, as well as the role of Michael, the great angel who is the spirit of our age. I will also be touching upon some huge dangers with which the adversarial powers are currently confronting humanity – and towards which we seem to be sleepwalking, ignorant and unaware of what is facing us.

WASHINGTON DC — Since the Russian offensive inside Ukraine commenced on February 24, the Ukrainian military has cultivated the image of a plucky little army standing up to the Russian Goliath. To bolster the perception of Ukrainian military mettle, Kiev has churned out a steady stream of sophisticated propaganda aimed at stirring public and official support from Western countries.
The campaign includes language guides, key messages, and hundreds of propaganda posters, some of which contain fascist imagery and even praise Neo-Nazi leaders.
Behind Ukraine’s public relations effort is an army of foreign political strategists, Washington DC lobbyists, and a network of intelligence-linked media outlets.
Ukraine’s propaganda strategy earned it praise from a NATO commander who told the Washington Post, “They are really excellent in stratcom — media, info ops, and also psy-ops.” The Post ultimately conceded that “Western officials say that while they cannot independently verify much of the information that Kyiv puts out about the evolving battlefield situation, including casualty figures for both sides, it nonetheless represents highly effective stratcom.”
Key to the propaganda effort is an international legion of public relations firms working directly with Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to wage information warfare.
According to the industry news site PRWeek, the initiative was launched by an anonymous figure who allegedly founded a Ukraine-based public relations firm.
“From the first hour of war, we decided to join the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to help them distribute the official sources to show the truth,” the nameless figure told PR Week. “This is a hybrid war: the mix of bloodily struggling fight with a huge disinformation and fake campaign lead by Russia [sic].”
According to the anonymous figure, more than 150 public relations firms have joined the propaganda blitz.
The international effort is spearheaded by public relations firm PR Network co-founder Nicky Regazzoni and Francis Ingham, a top public relations consultant with close ties to the UK’s government. Ingraham previously worked for Britain’s Conservative Party, sits on the UK Government Communication Service Strategy and Evaluation Council, is Chief Executive of the International Communications Consultancy Organisation, and leads the membership body for UK local government communicators, LG Comms.
“We’ve been privileged to help coordinate efforts to support the Ukrainian Government in the last few days, “ Ingham told PRovoke Media. “Agencies have offered up entire teams to support Kyiv in the communications war. Our support for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is unwavering and will continue for as long as needed.”
With an anonymous Ukrainian figure joining two of the top public relations figures in the Kiev government’s propaganda blitz, Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs distributed a dossier folder (archived) with materials instructing public relations agencies on “key messages,” approved language, content for debunked propaganda constructs, far-right and Neo-Nazi propaganda.
The folder is run by Yaroslav Turbil, described on his LinkedIn page as “Head of Ukraine.ua — Ukraine’s digital ecosystem for global communications. Strategic Communications & Country Brand Promotion.” Turbil has worked at multiple “civil society” organizations closely linked to the U.S. government and interned at Internews, a U.S. intelligence-linked organization that operates under the guise of promoting press freedom.
Some feature generic “no war” messages, while dozens of other images celebrate “The Ghost of Kiev” – a heroic Ukrainian pilot who turns out to be non-existent – and the phony “Snake Island 13” incident.
Many use xenophobic and racist language, and some are explicit in their praise of prominent Ukrainian Neo-Nazis, including C14 leader Yevhen Karas, the Right Sector fascist paramilitary, and the Neo-Nazi Azov Battalion. Multiple images call for “Banderite smoothies” – a reference to Molotov cocktails named for the late OUN-B commander Stephan Bandera, who collaborated with Nazi Germany in the mass murder of Jews and ethnic Poles during World War II. Another image depicts a book titled the: ”Encyclopedia of Incurable Diseases,” listing Russia, Belorussia, North Korea, Syria, and Eritrea.

The federal agency responsible for broadcasting America's message to the world routinely ignored security protocols "for at least a decade" while using the same visas intended for au pairs to hire foreign nationals as journalists, according to a report its first Senate-confirmed CEO sent investigators.
A week before President Biden took office and immediately fired him, Michael Pack submitted a formal request to the State Department's Office of Inspector General for a full investigation of security, financial and other issues in the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which Pack led for seven months.
His report, and supporting materials, alleged that 1,500 of the agency's 4,000 workers had security clearance issues such as improper background checks.
Pack's leadership team "learned that previous senior management had repeatedly failed to adhere to national security protocols and essential federal government personnel security practices for at least a decade," the report said. "The actions — and, in many cases, inactions — of the individuals responsible for producing this crisis placed U.S. national security in danger and imperiled USAGM's ability to fulfill its legal mandate of advancing U.S. foreign policy."
Biden's new USAGM leadership quickly rehired senior officials dismissed on the recommendation of career adjudicators, following investigations by McGuireWoods, an outside law firm. Just the News has reviewed the official summaries of the law firm’s investigation, which were recently submitted by Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) into the Congressional Record along with Pack's Jan. 14, 2021 letter.
Perry told Just the News Not Noise Tuesday that he "legally" obtained those materials after the agency refused to share them. USAGM then told him "you don't have all of it" and refused to provide the rest. "American taxpayers have paid for this," Perry said. "This is corruption at the highest level," including an employee subsequently convicted of embezzling.
Officials dismissed by Pack "left largely unaddressed" repeated warnings from federal intelligence and personnel offices, he wrote to State Department Deputy Inspector General Diana Shaw.
The veteran PBS documentary filmmaker also alleged the agency allowed a senior official to spin off a fund intended for internet firewall circumvention in repressive countries and use it as a slush fund.
U.S. intelligence services told Pack they were "watching" three individuals in the agency "and another has come up since," showing "there's a real risk here," Pack told Just the News Not Noise. "Why have security procedures if you're not going to follow them?"
One of the rehired officials, a senior strategy official, was found to have "wiped or otherwise factory reset" agency-issued electronic devices when he was put on leave pending investigation, violating multiple internal policies and possibly federal record retention rules, the law firm inquiry found.

Madeleine Albright has created plenty of history herself
— as the first woman to be U.S. Secretary of State, for example
— but in the last several years, a different slice of the past has caught her eye.
Noticing the rise of a new trend among world leaders, she recalled what she’d learned, through study and personal observation both, about the rise of fascism that started almost exactly a century ago.
Few of today’s forces of power would actually qualify as fascist in her view; more of them fall under the heading of “antidemocratic,” as she dubs President Donald Trump. But Albright knows that fascism doesn’t spread overnight, and she’s troubled enough by what she sees to have titled her new book Fascism: A Warning. On the occasion of the book’s release, she spoke to TIME about how history affects our views of the world, the media’s role in the rise of fascism, her greatest fears about North Korea — and more.
TIME: Your book is called Fascism: A Warning. How did you come to “warning” as the best way to sum up what this book is?
ALBRIGHT: As somebody who was born in Czechoslovakia two years before World War II and then was a refugee during the war as a result of fascism and lost people in my family, I thought that there are certain aspects that need to be warned about. The other thing I thought of as an image is that fascism is a disease and there are symptoms. So I think it’s important to warn about that.
To use the disease metaphor, what was the first symptom you noticed?
The thing that I noticed is that in other countries, where there has been a division among the people, there are leaders who have specifically exacerbated that division and made it worse, and then found somebody else to blame. A perfect example of that is what Viktor Orban did in Hungary. He aligned himself with his own quote national group, made ethnicity a major part of it, and then started blaming everybody that wasn’t, from his consideration, ethnically Hungarian.
You’ve described coming at things in your career with a “Munich mindset,” shaped by awareness of the effects of appeasement, whereas many of your colleagues who grew up in the U.S. might look at them with a mindset shaped by Vietnam. To what extent do you believe we’re bound to act according to our historical contexts?
Foreign policy decisions in so many ways are affected by a number of factors, and one of them is the individuals. Therefore I think it’s always very important to know what the so-called baggage for somebody that you’re dealing with actually is. We all to a certain extent are the product of our background. That doesn’t mean that you can’t shake it off. For instance, my mindset is Munich. It’s basically that you have to stand up to evil. But we have to be open to what other people are saying, to listen and to understand what their mindset is. I have kind of always been ten years older than everybody that I’ve worked with and their experience was Vietnam; a lot of the people who were in the government in the Clinton administration were people who had seen what did become a quagmire. There was a difference. There’s no question about it. When we were dealing with the Balkans, for instance, that was kind of a division line.
Do you have any guesses about how living through this moment in time will affect the way future leaders make decisions?
I’m hoping very much that the young people will be more like the kids who were marching, that felt that they needed to do something. I actually hope that people are affected by what’s happening now and understand that it doesn’t have to be that way.
You write about how radio helped Hitler’s rise to power and then how Joseph McCarthy was also helped by the media coverage he got. How do you see the role of the media in today’s situation?
I have always been fascinated, in an academic as well as a practical way, about the role of media and information in political change. I wrote my dissertation about it. You can’t operate if you don’t have information. It’s the lifeblood of a democracy. So the question is how do you know where the information has come from and how you have gotten it? I do think that is going to be one of the major issues when people go back and look at what this era has been about. It has been about technology and new media, the role of social media in a number of different ways, and the source of information. It’s much more complicated than it’s been.

There is also a passage in the book where you write about how Vladimir Putin has compared possible Russian interference in U.S. politics to the way the U.S. might have interfered in other nations’ politics, and how he seems not to see a difference between intervening to weaken democracy versus intervening to support democracy. However, in history, we’ve seen well-intended actions that backfired. How can a nation know it’s really supporting democracy in the long run? Is it just a matter of intention?
I think the important part, and in terms of the things that I’ve been involved in, is there’s not an ideological content to it. What it is is providing the nuts and bolts, explaining that in order to have a democracy you have to have elections or you have to have the rule of law. It doesn’t say vote this way or vote that way. It’s completely different. And it is usually something that is welcomed by people in that country.
So it’s the difference between having an influence on the content of the politics versus the mechanism.
Right. Literally, we often talk about it as “nuts and bolts.” Working across the spectrum of people who want to know what the tools are, not what to think. It’s not propaganda.
[Ed. note: Albright called back after the conversation to add this to her answer.] The truth is that democracy assistance has nothing in common with cyber hacking and disinformation, and that’s what we’ve been warning about. And to compare them is I think to commit a dangerous false equivalency. It’s a little bit like saying that a doctor who prescribes a cure and a doctor who administers poison are morally equivalent because they both attended to the patient.

You’re one of the rare U.S. politicians to have dealt face-to-face with a North Korean leader. What’s your advice for President Trump going into a summit with Kim Jong Un?
I can tell you from my own experience that Kim Jong Un’s father was very, very smart. We were talking about missile limits and things, and he really knew all the aspects of it. I say that because the main thing is to be prepared. One of the last things that one needs to do is make off-the-top-of-the-head comments. And not to see it as a one-off. Summits either come at the end of a process — especially when you bring the president in to complete the deal, and that’s obviously not what might happen if in fact this meeting happens — or where the leaders meet in order to set the guidelines for it and prepare it, and [one can’t] just decide everything overnight with no preparation and very little discipline. That’s what I think is important. Preparation and discipline.
What are your thoughts about the potential summit?
There’s no way to tell at the moment, because I think that there has been an awful lot of language — “rocket man” and all that kind of stuff — and then there’s some of the things that the South Koreans have been doing, and the whole issue of the Chinese role. Is Xi Jinping where he was before all the tariff and trade stuff came out? And who else are we counting on? Personally I have believed for a long time that it’s important to have talks. It’s certainly better than the military option that was talked about, the fire and fury kind of stuff. But there are an awful lots of ifs here. The thing that worries me the most, frankly, is some kind of a military accident.
A nuclear accident?
Any kind. We don’t have any ambassador in North Korea. Not even in South Korea. So that kind of a thing, something that requires a quick decision to deal with an immediate issue and not having the infrastructure to really make that decision.

A record number of women are running for office this year. From your experience as one of the highest-ranking women ever to have served in the federal government, what do you think the policy effects of a more gender-balanced government could be?
First of all, it’s just a matter of fact that women are the majority of the population. It’s the loss of a very important resource not to have women politically and economically empowered, and it’s true in the United States and it’s true all over the world. Making huge generalizations, I do think women have the capability much more to empathize and to listen and to look for some kind of a middle ground. I also think that women are interested in a whole host of issues, with different experience, and it will be a great advantage to have men and women work together. The thing that I think is really missing at this point, in the gender balance but also in the way that a lot of these discussions are taking place, is that they are not really done in a way that is civil and respectful of other people’s views.
You write that generosity of spirit is the best antidote to the qualities that enable fascism. What are personal your techniques for cultivating that in yourself?
I grew up in a lot of different places, whether it was as a child in England or in Yugoslavia or in boarding school or coming to America. What that taught me was that the variety of people that exist and their views contribute to a richness in life, in listening to them. So my technique really is I like to hear people that have different views, and try to figure out, as I said earlier, what is it that has created their view of life. My attempt is to try to understand those with whom I disagree.
Which issues in the world today aren’t getting enough attention?
Climate change. I really believe that and I think that it is something that is hard to grasp, frankly. That worries me. Fighting over water is going to be much more dangerous than fighting over oil. And then since one of the issues has to do with migration these days, a lot of the people who are coming out of Africa are coming out because of climate change and desertification. They can’t live when there is no water and the climate is terrible. What also I think we haven’t gotten our head around is technology. There’s just no question. It is an incredible gift in so many ways but I do think that some of the issues that we’re dealing with now have to do with the loss of jobs because they’re now done by robots. And this is only moving even faster with artificial intelligence.
On the flip side of that, what’s something in the world that you’re optimistic about?
I am optimistic about young people.

Updated | Former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright has incurred the wrath of Russian President Vladimir Putin's allies after calling him a "smart but truly evil man."
In an interview with Austrian newspaper Die Presse, Albright defended the foreign policy of Bill Clinton's administration, in which she was Secretary of State during Clinton's second term. The Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary were the first former Communist states to join NATO in 1999, in what would become the first step of an eastward expansion which has strongly incensed Moscow.
"I am very proud of the NATO expansion. Then we managed to use the power of Western Europe and help the Balkan states," Albright said. "The United States saw its role as an indispensable nation which should do good all over the world."
Albright took a less positive view of Putin, whom she met during a visit to the Kremlin in 2000, shortly after he succeeded former Russian President Boris Yeltsin. When asked what her lasting impression was of the young president, Albright was critical.

"He is smart, but a truly evil man," she said, describing him as "a KGB officer, who wants to keep everything under control and believes that everyone conspires against Russia."
"Putin had bad cards, but they were played well," she said. "At least, in the short-term. I think his goal is to undermine and split the EU. He wants to drive NATO from his sphere of influence."
Washington's former top diplomat also warned that the Baltic states should be concerned from Russia's military build-up on its borders, especially because of Russia's method of "asymmetric warfare."
Albright also dismissed Russian criticisms that the U.S. seeks to provoke Russia, saying "the U.S. has no problem with Russia, except when it occupies other countries."
"One always looks for excuses for Russia and I'm fed up with it," Albright said. "Russia is a country that provokes and then feels insulted."
In response, Putin-ally and chairman of Russian parliament's International Relations Committee Alexey Pushkov took to Twitter.
"Whether Albright is fed up or not, is not important," he wrote. "The U.S. and its allies are forced to deal with Russia. The opinion of some forgotten Secretary of State, is of nobody's interest."

Madeleine Albright is infamous for her reply to the question posed by 60 Minutes’ Lesley Stahl about the sanctions against Iraq in May 1996.
-“We have heard that a half million children have died,” stated Stahl. “I mean, that’s more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?”-
-“I think this is a very hard choice,” replied Albright, “but the price–we think the price is worth it.” -
Albright, who served as Bill Clinton’s Secretary of State from 1997 to 2001, had a cruel disregard for the lives of Iraqis, Serbs, and others. But she apparently had a callous attitude towards the lives of U.S. servicemen and servicewomen too. In his new memoir, General Hugh Shelton, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1997 to 2001, writes about a White House breakfast in late 1997. (The account is cited by Justin Elliott in Salon.)
Early on in my days as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, we had small, weekly White House breakfasts in National Security Advisor Sandy Berger’s office that included me, Sandy, Bill Cohen (Secretary of Defense), Madeleine Albright (Secretary of State), George Tenet (head of the CIA), Leon Firth (VP chief of staff for security), Bill Richardson (ambassador to the U.N.), and a few other senior administration officials. These were informal sessions where we would gather around Berger’s table and talk about concerns over coffee and breakfast served by the White House dining facility. It was a comfortable setting that encouraged brainstorming of potential options on a variety of issues of the day.
During that time we had U-2 aircraft on reconnaissance sorties over Iraq. These planes were designed to fly at extremely high speeds and altitudes (over seventy thousand feet) both for pilot safety and to avoid detection.
At one of my very first breakfasts, while Berger and Cohen were engaged in a sidebar discussion down at one end of the table and Tenet and Richardson were preoccupied in another, one of the Cabinet members present leaned over to me and said, “Hugh, I know I shouldn’t even be asking you this, but what we really need in order to go in and take out Saddam is a precipitous event — something that would make us look good in the eyes of the world. Could you have one of our U-2s fly low enough — and slow enough — so as to guarantee that Saddam could shoot it down?”
The hair on the back of my neck bristled, my teeth clenched, and my fists tightened. I was so mad I was about to explode. I looked across the table, thinking about the pilot in the U-2 and responded, “Of course we can …” which prompted a big smile on the official’s face.
“You can?” was the excited reply.
“Why, of course we can,” I countered. “Just as soon as we get your ass qualified to fly it, I will have it flown just as low and slow as you want to go.”
The official reeled back and immediately the smile disappeared. “I knew I should not have asked that….”
“No, you should not have,” I strongly agreed, still shocked at the disrespect and sheer audacity of the question. “Remember, there is one of our great Americans flying that U-2, and you are asking me to intentionally send him or her to their death for an opportunity to kick Saddam. The last time I checked, we don’t operate like that here in America.”
Imagine that! A Cabinet official suggesting a deliberate provocation endangering a military pilot’s life in order to justify a war: “…but what we really need in order to go in and take out Saddam is a precipitous event — something that would make us look good in the eyes of the world.” Is this mere amoral pragmatism? Machiavellianism? It is in any case evil.

(I’m reminded of how the key neocon text “Rebuilding America’s Defenses” authored by Paul Wolfowitz for the Project for a New American Century (PNAC) “thinktank” in Sept. 2000, states that the “process of transformation” to the kind of super-militarized aggressive state the neocons hoped for “will be a long one absent some catastrophic event like a new Pearl Harbor.” And as the Deputy Secretary of Defense he warned of another Pearl Harbor in his speech at West Point in June 2001. After 9-11, widely compared in the media to the Pearl Harbor attack of 1941, he immediately set about preparations for war with Iraq.)
On January 31, 2003 President George W. Bush in a meeting with British Prime Minister Tony Blair seriously proposed provoking Saddam to shoot down a U.S. aircraft. According to notes taken my Blair advisor David Manning (the accuracy of which has never been challenged), Bush suggested “flying U-2 reconnaissance aircraft with fighter cover over Iraq, painted with UN colors. If Saddam fired on them, he would be in breach” of UN resolutions. Maybe then the UN, which had refused to endorse the plan to attack Iraq and was sceptical about the justifications given by then-Secretary of State Colin Powell, would endorse war. (Perhaps the military brass opposed the plan, which was never carried out.)
At the Clinton White House breakfast described by Gen. Shelton, Berger, Cohen, Tenet and Richardson were involved in separate conversations. The other cabinet members were Robert E. Rubin (Treasury), Janet Reno (Attorney General), Bruce Babbit (Interior), Dan Glickman (Agriculture), Mickey Kantor (Commerce), Alexis Herman (Labor), Donna E. Shalala (Health and Human Services), Andrew M. Cuomo (Housing and Urban Development), Rodney Slater (Transportation), Richard W. Riley (Education), Jesse Brown (Veteran’s Affairs), Federico F. Pena (Energy), and Albright.
Out the 14 members of the Cabinet, there were four women. The fact that Shelton deliberately avoids indicating the gender of his interlocutor may hint that it was one of them. It is hard to believe that Attorney General Reno would suggest sacrificing an airman to the head of the Joint Chiefs at a White House breakfast. Or the Secretary of Labor, or Secretary of Health and Human Services. It’s hard to believe anyone on the above list would so–except Albright.
Albright in her memoirs expresses regret for her “it was worth it” statement in the 1996 interview. And she told Newsweek in 2006, “I’m afraid that Iraq is going to turn out to be the greatest disaster in American foreign policy—worse than Vietnam.” But she bears partial responsibility for the December 1998 bombing of Iraq (“Operation Desert Fox”), a prelude to the 2003 invasion. She helped produce the disaster.
And she helped produce disaster in the former Yugoslavia. As violence rose in the Serbian province of Kosovo, between the Kosovo Liberation Army and security forces, she (and Cohen) deliberately exaggerated the Kosovar Albanian death toll and demanded the U.S. right to intervene. She arranged the de facto alliance with the KLA, earlier labelled “terrorist” by U.S. officials. In March 1999 at the Rambouillet talks between Serbia and the Kosovar rebels, along with the U.S., its European allies and Russia, the U.S. demanded that the whole of Serbia (and other states within what was left of Yugoslavia) submit to virtual occupation by NATO. Yugoslavia had proudly remained outside the Warsaw Pact and had prided itself on participation in the Non-Aligned Movement. No government in Belgrade could have complied with Albright’s demands.

The so-called Rambouillet Agreement was rejected outright by the Serbs as well as their Russian allies. But Albright immediately stated, “We accept the agreement”–as though there was any agreement. The bullying was conducted in such a smug fashion that the French Foreign minister accused the U.S. of becoming a hyperpuissance–not a mere superpower but a “hyperpower.”
John Pilger wrote, “Anyone scrutinizing the Rambouillet document is left with little doubt that the excuses given for the subsequent bombing were fabricated. The peace negotiations were stage managed and the Serbs were told: surrender and be occupied, or don’t surrender and be destroyed.”
This was indeed Albright’s plan (and that of Bill Clinton, egged on by Hillary, who has confessed, “I urged him to bomb”), resulting in the deployment of NATO to bomb a European capital for the first time since 1945, killing at least 500 civilians (Human Rights Watch) and maybe ten times that number.
A Republican official later told a think tank that a certain “top official” had told him: “ We intentionally set the bar too high for the Serbs to comply. They need some bombing, and that’s what they are going to get.” Don’t we see a pattern here?
Throughout the last decade the neoconservatives have been the leading warmongers. But they have no monopoly on imperialist arrogance, contempt for truth and indifference to human life. Madeleine Albright is proof of that.
