How Venice Rigged The First, and Worst, Global Financial Collapse

Six hundred and fifty years ago came the climax of the worst financial collapse in history to date. The 1930’s Great Depression was a mild and brief episode, compared to the bank crash of the 1340’s, which decimated the human population.

The crash, which peaked in A.C.E. 1345 when the world’s biggest banks went under, “led” by the Bardi and Peruzzi companies of Florence, Italy, was more than a bank crash—it was a financial disintegration. Like the disaster which looms now, projected in Lyndon LaRouche’s “Ninth Economic Forecast” of July 1994, that one was a blowup of all major banks and markets in Europe, in which, chroniclers reported, “all credit vanished together,” most trade and exchange stopped, and a catastrophic drop of the world’s population by famine and disease loomed.

Like the financial disintegration hanging over us in 1995 with the collapse of Mexico, Orange County, British merchant banks, etc., that one of the 1340’s was the result of thirty to forty years of disastrous financial practices, by which the banks built up huge fictitious “financial bubbles,” parasitizing production and real trade in goods. These speculative cancers destroyed the real wealth they were monopolizing, and caused these banks to be effectively bankrupt long before they finally went under.

The critical difference between 1345 and 1995, was that in the Fourteenth century there were as yet no nations. No governments had the national sovereignty to control the banks and the creation of credit; or, to force these banks into bankruptcy in an orderly way, and replace fictitious bank credit and money with national credit. Nor was the Papacy, the world leadership of the Church, fighting against the debt-looting of the international banks then as it is today; in fact, at that time it was allied with, aiding, and abetting them.

The result was a disaster for the human population, which fell worldwide by something like 25 percent between 1300 and 1450 (in Europe, by somewhere between 35 percent and 50 percent from the 1340’s collapse to the 1440’s).

This global crash, caused by the policies and actions of banks which finally completely bankrupted themselves, has been blamed by historians ever since on a king—poor Edward III of England. Edward revolted against the seizure and looting of his kingdom by the Bardi and Peruzzi banks, by defaulting on their loans, starting in 1342. But King Edward’s national budget was dwarfed by that of either the Bardi or Peruzzi; in fact, by 1342, his national budget had become a sub-department of theirs. Their internal memos in Florence spoke of him contemptuously as “Messer Edward”; “we shall be fortunate to recover even a part” of his debts, they sniffed in 1339.

A “free trade” mythology has been developed by historians about these “sober, industrious, Christian bankers” of Italy in the Fourteenth century—“doing good” by their own private greed; developing trade and the beginnings of capitalist industry by seeking monopolies for their family banks; somehow existing in peace with other merchants; and expiating their greedy sins by donations to the Church. But, goes the myth, these sober bankers were led astray by kings (accursed governments!) who were spendthrift, warlike, and unreliable in paying debts which they had forced the helpless or momentarily foolish bankers to lend them. Thus, emerging “private enterprise capitalism” was set back by the disaster of the Fourteenth century, concludes the classroom myth, noting in passing that 30 million people died in Europe in the ensuing Black Death, famine, and war. If only the “sober, Christian” bankers had stuck to industrious “free trade” and prosperous city-states, and never gotten entangled with warlike, spendthrift kings!

The Department of Defense (DoD) reportedly took over the case, which occurred near a waterway off of I-79. The Center for Threat Preparedness had initially been charged with trying to recover the vaccines, but is no longer allowed to talk to the press now that the DoD has gotten involved.

Instead, the media is being referred to the National COVID Response Press Secretary at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which claims the 1.3 million doses were on their way to Ghana.

Amazingly, this disruption of the 1.3 million doses of the “safe and effective” vaccine stopped nearly all activity around the site of the crash. It was almost as if something extremely dangerous had possibly leaked into the surrounding environment, requiring all hands on deck.

HAZMAT cleaning crews reportedly spent 21 hours in the area near Morgantown recovering the vaccines and remediating whatever damage occurred. The northbound side of the interstate was also closed down the entire time to all thru-traffic.

“A tractor trailer, carrying Moderna COVID-19 vaccines to be sent as aid to a foreign country, lost control on the interstate, struck a concrete barrier and went down over the embankment approximately 30 feet and rolled on its side,” the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office where the incident occurred indicated in a statement.

“The driver was trapped inside of the vehicle and had to be extricated. He was transported and treated for minor injuries at Ruby Memorial Hospital.”

A former Marine was pulled over for following a truck too closely. Police took nearly $87,000 of his cash.

Lara - a former Marine who says he was on his way to visit his daughters in Northern California - insisted he was doing none of those things, though he readily admitted he had "a lot" of cash in his car. As he stood on the side of the road, police searched the vehicle, pulling nearly $87,000 in a zip-top bag from Lara's trunk and insisting a drug-sniffing dog had detected something on the cash.

Police found no drugs, and Lara, 39, was charged with no crimes. But police nonetheless left with his money, calling a Drug Enforcement Administration agent to coordinate a process known as "adoption," which allows federal authorities to seize cash or property they suspect is connected to criminal activity without levying criminal charges.

"I left there confused. I left there angry," Lara said in an interview with The Washington Post. "And I could not believe that I had just been literally robbed on the side of the road by people with badges and guns."

It was only after Lara got a lawyer, sued and talked with The Washington Post about his ordeal that the government said it would return his money. Asked for comment on this story on Tuesday, spokespeople for the Justice Department, DEA and Nevada Highway Patrol all declined to comment. But on Wednesday, after this story first published, DEA spokeswoman Anne Edgecomb said the agency had made a decision to return Lara's money and the government vowed a broader review.

"The Justice Department is reviewing existing policy on adoptive forfeitures," spokesman Joshua Stueve said in a statement.

Lara and his representatives concede some of his actions could raise questions. But advocates say the case is an example of how the federal government abuses its asset forfeiture authority, putting the burden on those whose property is taken to prove their innocence to get it back.

The "adoption" maneuver is particularly controversial, they say, because it involves federal law enforcement using its power to encourage a seizure by state police. Much of the forfeited property ultimately goes back to the state agency if it's not returned to the original owner, and advocates say many owners don't have the means or sophistication to get their items back.

Attorney General Eric Holder curtailed use of the practice in the Obama administration, but Attorney General Jeff Sessions restored it under President Donald Trump. Though Attorney General Merrick Garland has rolled back many Trump-era changes at the Justice Department, he has not taken any action on asset forfeiture.

"This is an inherently abusive power that state and local law enforcement should not have," said Wesley Hottot, a lawyer representing Lara with the Institute for Justice, which advocates against civil asset forfeiture. "What we see almost exclusively are people like Stephen who - perhaps had quirky banking practices - but they're not guilty of any crime. And yet, in the nation's airports, on the nation's roads, they're treated by police as though a large amount of cash by itself is criminal. Early last month, UK Minister for the Cabinet Office Michael Gove said that the government would let Scotland hold a second independence referendum if there is a "settled will" on the part of the public.

The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has rejected reports about the government's plans to relocate Britain's Trident nuclear submarines abroad in the event of Scottish independence.

The Trident nuclear weapons system, based on Scotland's west coast, consists of four British submarines armed with eight missiles, each carrying 40 nuclear warheads. At least one such vessel is at sea continuously, carrying the nuclear arsenal.

A MoD spokesperson was cited by The Independent as saying on Wednesday that "there are no plans to move the nuclear deterrent from HM Naval Base Clyde, which contributes to Scotland's and the wider UK's security and economy, and its supporting facilities are safe for local communities".

The spokesperson was echoed by the MoD's press office, which tweeted that "contrary to a recent press report, the nuclear deterrent and the thousands of jobs which support it are staying in Scotland".

The Scottish government, in contrast, told the Financial Times (FT) that it firmly opposes the possession and the use of nuclear weapons and that it was "committed to the safe and complete withdrawal of Trident from Scotland".

The statement follows the FT quoting unnamed sources as claiming that the UK is making "secret contingency plans" to move its Trident nuclear submarine bases from Scotland to the US or France if the northernmost part of the UK gains independence.

"Moving the bases to the US is the preferred option of the UK Treasury, as it would require minimal capital investment", the sources argued, adding that "basing Trident outside Britain could be politically difficult, as it would likely be viewed as a threat to defence sovereignty".

Another option reportedly under consideration is Britain negotiating a long-term lease for the Royal Navy's nuclear bases at their current location on the country's west coast.

This will allegedly lead to the creation of a new British Overseas Territory within an independent Scottish state's Faslane and Coulport bases that were described by one source as a "Nuclear Gibraltar".
