Well unfortunately this is yet another case of a rising tide lifts all boats.

It has been on weak uptrend YTD until March 4th.

I usually do not give out advice on individual stocks but I hope you are aware that almost every single equity has many moar shares outstanding (issued through fuckery) than they have actually issued-this is a market-wide phenomenon.

I think it was Heinz that was taken private (one of many they have done) in the mid 90's and when it was time for all the shares to be tendered there were 25% moar shares that 'showed' up for sale.

What I've described in the Ag COMEX paper market is basically a representation of what habbens in ALL markets.

You can thank the DTCC for allowing that cause they don't clear prolly up to 70% now-was lower before-of all daily trades because if they did what I described above (moar shares exist and traded than really issued) it would have been exposed long ago.

Japan downgrades Q4 GDP on consumer spending miss

Japan's strong economic growth in the final quarter of 2021 was downgraded in a revised estimate on Wednesday, while pressures from record COVID-19 infections and rising energy costs are heightening risks of a contraction this quarter.

The downwardly revised growth is bad news for policymakers tasked with keeping the country's fragile recovery on track as a jump in commodity prices due to the Ukraine crisis and persistent supply disruptions heighten economic uncertainty.

Revised gross domestic product (GDP) data released by the Cabinet Office on Wednesday showed Japan expanded an annualized 4.6% in October-December. That was lower than economists' median forecast for a 5.6% gain and the preliminary reading of 5.4% released last month.

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, GDP expanded 1.1%, falling short of the median market expectations for a 1.4% gain.

Private consumption, which makes up more than a half of Japan's GDP, increased 2.4% in October-December from the previous quarter, revised down from an initially-estimated 2.7% gain.

Domestic demand as a whole contributed 0.9 of a percentage point to revised GDP figures, while net exports added 0.2 of a percentage point.

Economists in a Reuters poll last week forecast annualized growth of 0.4% in the January-March quarter, slashing their previous projections given rapid Omicron coronavirus variant infections and uncertainties caused by the war in Ukraine.

Saudis, UAE Refuse To Take Biden's Calls To Discuss Ukraine Situation, Talk To Putin Instead

First, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro declined to condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Then, India followed suit - as the Modi government attempted to balance its historic ties with Moscow and its strategic partnership with Washington. Now, Saudi and UAE leaders are refusing to take Biden's calls as the US president tries to contain surging oil prices, according to the Wall Street Journal, which adds that the Persian Gulf monarchies have signaled "they won’t help ease surging oil prices unless Washington supports them in Yemen, elsewhere." "There was some expectation of a phone call, but it didn’t happen," said one US official of a planned discussion between Biden and the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. "It was part of turning on the spigot [of Saudi oil]."

The U.A.E.’s Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan also ghosted Biden in recent weeks according to Middle East and US officials.

Yet, both Prince Mohammed and Sheikh Mohammed took phone calls from Russian President Vladimir Putin after declining to speak with Biden, according to the WSJ. They also spoke with Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky. Biden was able to get through to Prince Mohammed's 86-year-old father on Feb. 9, however the U.A.E.’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the call between Mr. Biden and Sheikh Mohammed would need to be rescheduled, according to the report.

As the Journal notes, "The Saudis have signaled that their relationship with Washington has deteriorated under the Biden administration, and they want more support for their intervention in Yemen’s civil war, help with their own civilian nuclear program as Iran’s moves ahead, and legal immunity for Prince Mohammed in the U.S., Saudi officials said. The crown prince faces multiple lawsuits in the U.S., including over the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018."

Meanwhile, the Emiratis share Saudi concerns about the less-than-adequate level of engagement by the US regarding recent missile strikes by Iran-backed Houthi militants in Yemen against both the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The two kingdoms are also concerned about the revival of the Iran nuclear deal - which is in its 'final stages of negotiations,' yet does zero to address their security concerns. So for those keeping track, while the west has continued to insist that Russia is isolated - and make no mistake, these sanctions will be immediately crippling - if one considers the population and resources which originate in China, India, Brazil and the Middle East kingdoms - basically half the world's population and those who control most of the world's commodities aren't on board with punishing Putin or easing the situation to the west's benefit. And as the Journal points out, "Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E. are the only two major oil producers that can pump millions of more barrels of more oil—a capacity that, if used, could help calm the crude market at a time when American gasoline prices are at high levels."

California’s Newsom Vows Gas-Price Relief in Optimistic Speech

California Governor Gavin Newsom in his State of State speech Tuesday portrayed the world’s fifth-largest economy as a leader in progressive initiatives and promised to address core issues such as soaring gasoline prices.

The first-term Democrat, running for re-election this year, touched on topics from preserving democracy to climate change and homelessness. Referring to one of the most pressing concerns for residents, he said he would work with legislative leaders on “a proposal to put money back in Californians’ pockets to address rising gas prices,” without elaborating.

While California is rife with contradictions it’s home to more billionaires than any other U.S. state, but has the highest percentage of residents in poverty Newsom touted its liberal ideals. The most-populous state has set goals in reducing emissions and expanding transitional kindergarten, as well as extending health-care coverage to all undocumented residents.

“In the midst of so much turmoil, with stacking of stresses and dramatic social and economic change, California is doing what we have done for generations, lighting out the territory ahead of the rest, expanding the horizon of what’s possible,” said Newsom, 54. “We know that government cannot be the entire solution, but we also know that government has always been part of the solution.”

The governor’s reference to gas-price relief comes after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine sent costs for the fuel surging. California now averages $5.44 for a gallon of regular, according to AAA. The state often has the nation’s most expensive gasoline, the result of high taxes, costs from global-warming programs and the use of pollution-fighting fuel blends used nowhere else.

Newsom had already proposed delaying an annual inflation-indexed increase in the fuel tax that was set for July 1 as part of his budget plan for the next fiscal year. He said Tuesday that it was time to go further.

The two leaders of the Democratic-majority legislature Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins and Assemblymember Anthony Rendon after the speech issued a a joint statement suggesting that they are considering a tax rebate that’s broader than relief from fuel prices.

On homelessness, Newsom acknowledged the crisis has worsened over the past decade. California has the most people experiencing homelessness among U.S. states 161,548, according to the latest figures and they have become even more visible during the pandemic with encampments lining sidewalks and parks.

In next year’s budget blueprint, Newsom had already allocated $2 billion in homelessness-related proposals, which the legislature’s nonpartisan adviser characterized as his continuing focus on “one‑time, rather than on‑going, funding” for one of the state’s most significant challenges.

A House panel calls for a criminal investigation into Amazon

A House committee on Wednesday asked the Justice Department to investigate Amazon and some of its executives for criminal obstruction of a congressional investigation that included the e-commerce giant. In a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, members of the House Judiciary committee accused the company of obstructing its 16-month antitrust investigation by refusing to turn over information and lying about how it treated third-party sellers on its platform.

“Throughout the investigation and in follow-up inquiries, senior executives at Amazon engaged in a pattern and practice of misleading behavior before the committee,” a bipartisan group of lawmakers including the House Judiciary committee chairman, Jerrold Nadler, Democrat of New York, said in the letter to the Justice Department. “Amazon and its executives must be held accountable for this behavior.” During its investigation, which was opened in 2019, the House panel’s antitrust subcommittee focused on whether the company used data about its customers to advance the sale of its own private-label products over those of third-party vendors. The lawmakers in their letter said Amazon executives, including a lawyer who testified before the committee, repeatedly denied that the company used customer data to harm competition. But The Wall Street Journal and The Markup reported later that former employees and internal documents revealed that the company used data to give Amazon products an unfair boost over competitors and that the company also used its ranking systems to feature company products over those of third-party sellers. “Amazon was caught in a lie,” the lawmakers wrote in their letter. Deutsche Bank Has Lost 38 Percent of Its Market Value in a Month; That’s a Big Problem for Wall Street and the Fed

Deutsche Bank (symbol DB on the above chart) closed at $16.50 on the New York Stock Exchange on February 10 of this year. It closed at $10.23 yesterday – a decline of 38 percent in a month’s time. That’s a big problem because Deutsche Bank is heavily interconnected to Wall Street banks via derivatives. According to Deutsche Bank’s most recent annual report, as of December 31, 2020, it held $35.4 trillion in notional derivatives.

Deutsche Bank, a large German bank, was among the global banks bailed out by the Fed during the financial crash of 2008 as well as during the (still unexplained) liquidity crash that saw the Fed pump trillions of dollars in cumulative loans into global banks from September 17, 2019 through July 2, 2020. In June 2016, The International Monetary Fund (IMF) released a report with a finding that Deutsche Bank posed the greatest threat to global financial stability than any other bank because of its interconnections to Wall Street mega banks and large banks in Europe. (See graph below.) The largest bank in the United States, JPMorgan Chase, was shown as one of the banks with the largest amount of exposure.

Despite that finding by the IMF in 2016, Deutsche Bank has been allowed by regulators in Europe and the U.S. to continue engaging in high-risk Over-the-Counter derivatives. It also has an uncomfortable history of suicides and rogue behavior. See a sampling of its history since 2014 below. Yes, President Joe Biden’s administration has a lot on its plate. But if it doesn’t get serious about reforming Wall Street and its derivative weapons of mass destruction, it will have a lot more to deal with eventually.

Here is a partial list of the "problems/deaths as a result of DB's "banking practices".

January 26, 2014: William Broeksmit, 58, was found hanged in his London home. Police ruled the death “non-suspicious.” Broeksmit was a senior executive at Deutsche Bank involved in assessing risk on the bank’s balance sheet.

October 20, 2014: The body of Calogero Gambino, 41, was found by his wife hanging from a stairway banister in their Manhattan home. Gambino was a lawyer for Deutsche Bank who had been cooperating with U.S. regulators on Deutsche Bank’s involvement in the rigging of the interest rate benchmark, Libor.

April 23, 2015: Deutsche Bank pleads guilty to the U.S. Department of Justice for its role in rigging the benchmark interest rate known as Libor. It pays fines of $2.519 billion to various regulators.

January 17, 2017: Deutsche Bank reaches a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice in which it agrees to pay $7.2 billion in fines and restitution for its improper “packaging, securitization, marketing, sale and issuance of residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) between 2006 and 2007.”

January 30, 2017: Deutsche Bank is fined a total of $630 million by U.S. and U.K. regulators over claims it laundered upwards of $10 billion on behalf of Russian investors.

January 29, 2018: Deutsche Bank is ordered to pay $30 million by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission for manipulating trading in the precious metals market.

November 29, 2018: Deutsche Bank’s headquarters in Germany are raided by 170 members of law enforcement. Prosecutors said at the time that “Deutsche Bank helped customers found offshore organizations in tax havens by transferring illegally acquired money without alerting authorities to suspected money laundering.”

May 19, 2019: The New York Times’ David Enrich writes the bombshell report describing how a Deutsche Bank whistleblower, Tammy McFadden, and four of her colleagues, had their efforts blocked by the bank when they tried to file suspicious activity reports on bank accounts affiliated with Donald Trump and his son-in-law/advisor Jared Kushner. The suspicious activity reports (SARs) should have been filed with the Federal agency known as FinCEN (Financial Crimes Enforcement Network) but were quashed by a unit of the bank that manages money for the super wealthy.

July 7, 2019: Deutsche Bank confirms plans to fire 18,000 workers and reorganize into a good bank/bad bank. The bad bank will hold assets it plans to sell.

September 24, 2019: German police raid Deutsche Bank headquarters for the second time in less than a year.

Also remember the "Jerry" Powell was instrumental, as an executive of Banker's Trust, in placing a YUGE amoiunt of worthless derivatives at Deutsche Bank when DB "bought" Banker's Trust in 1999-it merged with Alex Brown and Sons as a way to keep it off the market (ala Country-Wide and Bank of America) and then bought by DB.
