According to multiple media reports, several rockets fell near Baghdad International airport on Friday. Unconfirmed speculations have been sparked on social media that the attack was organized against the US coalition base, which situated in the area.

Three rockets fell on Friday in the vicinity of Baghdad International airport, according to SkyNewsArabia.

According to Reuters, citing security officials, the rockets landed near the area of the airport where US forces are located, and no damages or casualties were reported.

A source from Iraqi security bodies told al-Sumaria broadcaster that the primary target of the attack was the US military base.

Netizens on Twitter shared photos of alleged wreckages which was said to be a rocket launch system.

Brain study suggests autism develops differently in girls than boys

Autism appears to develop differently in girls and boys, so the findings of research conducted mainly with boys might not apply to girls, a new study suggests. Autism spectrum disorder is four times more common in boys, which may help explain why there's far less research about autism in girls. "This new study provides us with a roadmap for understanding how to better match current and future evidenced-based interventions to underlying brain and genetic profiles, so that we can get the right treatment to the right individual," said lead investigator Kevin Pelphrey. He is an autism expert at the University of Virginia's School of Medicine and Brain Institute. "This advances our understanding of autism broadly by revealing that there may well be different causes for boys versus girls," Pelphrey added in a university news release.

For the study, the researchers combined brain imaging with genetic investigation to learn more about autism in girls. Functional MRI was used to examine brain activity during social interactions. It showed that girls with autism use different sections of their brains than girls without autism. The difference between girls with and without autism was not the same as the difference between boys with and without autism, meaning that brain mechanisms involved in autism vary depending on gender, according to the study authors. The investigators also found that girls with autism had much larger numbers of rare variants of genes active during early development of a brain region called the striatum. A section of the striatum is believed to be involved in interpreting social interaction and language. The findings were published recently in the journal Brain. Ultimately, Pelphrey said, the team hopes to use the findings to generate new autism treatment strategies tailored to girls.

Fire destroys under-construction Langley condo development

A large fire engulfed a Langley apartment complex on Monday night, cutting out power to the surrounding area and leading to the evacuation of nearby residents.

No one was living in the six-storey wood frame condo buildings on 208th Street and 80th Avenue, which were under construction.

Township of Langley firefighters received a call about the fire at 9:35 p.m. Approximately 60 firefighters and 14 vehicles fought the blaze, along with reinforcements from Langley Fire Rescue.

“It’s one of the largest fires we had to deal with in a number of years,” said Deputy Fire Chief Bruce Ferguson of the Township of Langley Fire Department. He estimated the damage to be “in the millions.”

There were no injuries from the blaze, which could be seen as far as Coquitlam and Abbotsford Monday night.

By Tuesday morning, the buildings where the fire raged have been reduced to charred rubble.

Metro-Can Construction, the general contractor for the site, said an employee spotted the fire and contacted the fire department. A security guard was also onsite when the fire broke out.

Scientists have created the world's first monkey embryos containing human cells in an attempt to investigate how the two types of cell develop alongside each other. The embryos, which were derived from a macaque and then injected with human stem cells in the lab, were allowed to grow for 20 days before being destroyed. We have a term for this type of life form: a chimera, named after the fire-breathing monster of Greek mythology that was part lion, part goat and part snake. It's hoped that part-human chimeras essentially animal bodies with some human organs or other characteristics might one day offer clues to help us treat human diseases, as well as providing organs to transplant to humans. But for these purposes, part-human chimeras will first have to be born, and this research takes us one step closer to that eventuality.

CHICO, Calif. – The Chico Police Department said is working to identify three people who barged into Tuesday’s City Council meeting and refused law enforcement’s orders to leave.

Tuesday's city council meeting started at its regular time at 6 p.m. and was following COVID-19 protocol, but quickly came to an end when people entered the chamber building.

For more than a year, participation in Chico City Council meetings has been limited to online only due to the pandemic. But now, due to an executive order, the public could attend Tuesday's meeting in person.

Speakers were required to sign up to speak by checking in at one of the speaker card tables located outside of the Council Chamber. All speakers were given instructions to wait in the speaker line. Only one speaker was allowed into the Chamber at one time. Masks were also required for anyone entering the Chamber. In addition, the Engaged Chico civic engagement program was also available for citizen input on agenda items. But as the meeting started, a group of 15 people, some carrying flags and most not wearing masks, made their way through the unlocked doors and into the Council Chambers.

The Chico Mayor was then forced to put the meeting into recess. Law enforcement said they addressed the group, explaining that they were disrupting a public meeting and needed to exit the Chambers and to fill out speaker cards if they wished to address City Council.

Law enforcement said they continued to educate the group as well as explain California Penal Code Section 403.

"Every person who, without authority of law, willfully disturbs or breaks up any assembly or meeting that is not unlawful in its character, other than an assembly or meeting referred to in Section 302 of the Penal Code or Section 18340 of the Elections Code, is guilty of a misdemeanor.”

Five retired admirals and one brigadier general have been released on Thursday, after giving statements to the police regarding an investigation into the declaration signed by 103 admirals, Karar newspaper reported.

The ex-navy men had been invited to police stations in their hometowns to give their statements last week, according to BBC Turkish.

Ten more retired admirals had been detained and released as part of the same investigation on the April 3 declaration in favour of the 1936 Montreux Convention, a fundamental document for Turkey’s sovereign rights over its Dardanelles and Bosporus straits. Four more had been invited to give their statements, due to their advanced age.

Released retired admirals were accused of having organised the writing of the declaration and collected more signatures. Six admirals released on probation were ordered to wear ankle monitors, and seven others have received notifications to do so.

In the declaration the admirals denounced the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) for “opening up for discussion the Montreux Convention” and for the Islamisation of the armed forces over an active-service rear admiral’s visit to the leader of an extreme religious sect.

The ruling AKP has said the declaration was a challenge to civilian government and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan accused the retired soldiers of "hinting at a political coup."

Gov. Jay Inslee acknowledged that Washington now appears to be entering into a fourth wave of COVID-19 cases, urging residents to get vaccinated as quickly as possible.

Health officials have been issuing warnings concerning a possible fourth wave for weeks now, with case rates and hospitalizations rising precipitously across Washington.

“I wish it was otherwise,” Inslee said in a news conference Thursday. “The situation is we’d like to be done with the virus, but the virus is not done with us.”

“We know that (cases are) not as high as they have been, but we’re headed in that direction, and that is simply too dangerous to persist,” he added.

The governor laid out a variety of factors that have likely fueled the state’s latest surge, including large, unmasked indoor gatherings, and the increasing presence of more-infectious variant strains, that now make up “well over 50% of our total load” in Washington.

“This is bad news for us,” Inslee warned.

Demographically, case rates have risen the most in the 20 to 59-year-old demographic. What’s perhaps more concerning, Inslee noted, is that younger Washingtonians are comprising the bulk of new hospitalizations.

Even while the instances of deaths among those hospitalizations is lower than we saw in previous waves, the state is still seeing “significant, prolonged illnesses.”

Meanwhile, many parts of Washington have begun to experience significant levels of vaccine hesitancy. According to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center’s Dr. Dan Getz, areas like Spokane have filled “less than half of available appointments.” (anon's note: could it be that people are on to this COVID 'vaccine' scam and want nothing to do with an experimental 'vaccine' for a virus that has a VERY HIGH SURVIVAL RATE?!?)

“I never dreamed we’d get to a point where we’d have the key to solving this, and we’d be slow to recovery because people are scared of taking something that’s clearly shown to be safe,” Dr. Getz said.

Inslee closed by emphasizing the need for Washingtonians of all ages to get vaccinated, using the state’s vaccine locator tool at this link (link will not be included in this post).

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Thursday sued the Biden Administration for releasing Covid-infected illegal aliens into the United States.

“President Biden’s outright disregard of the public health crisis in Texas by welcoming and encouraging mass gatherings of illegal aliens is hypocritical and dangerous. This reckless policy change stifles the reopening of the Texas economy at a time when businesses need it the most and when our children need to get back to in-person learning as soon as possible,” Paxton said in a statement announcing the lawsuit.

“Instead of using the CDC’s authority to prevent the introduction of covered aliens into the United States during a pandemic, Defendants have chosen to take courses of action that have resulted in the release of tens of thousands of aliens into Texas and the United States,” the lawsuit says. “Absent this Court’s intervention, such releases will continue for the foreseeable future.”

‘Never Any Question’: Nancy Pelosi Says She Never Believed Her Brother’s Accuser in Trial for Infamous Gang Rape of Underage Girls

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made clear she does not believe all women who accuse men of sexual misconduct, a new book on the powerful California Democrat reveals.

“We loved him and trusted him, and it was never any question,” Pelosi told USA Today’s Susan Page about her brother “Roosie,” or Franklin Delano Roosevelt D’Alesandro, who was charged and then acquitted with a group of other young men–all of whom were convicted except for Pelosi’s brother–of raping two underage girls in the early 1950s.

Pelosi made the comments to Page in an interview for her just-published book, Madam Speaker: Nancy Pelosi and the Lessons of Power. Page, USA Today’s Washington Bureau Chief, sat for extensive interviews with Pelosi for the book. She also moderated last year’s vice presidential debate between former Vice President Mike Pence and Vice President Kamala Harris.

These revelations are potentially politically explosive for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, they bring to the forefront of political discussion the gruesome details of the allegations against her now-deceased brother yet again—which have not been explored in decades. They were briefly mentioned in a Baltimore Sun obituary for Pelosi’s brother in 2007, but the facts of the case—including the fact that everyone else charged was convicted and the judge’s curious instructions to the jury ahead of their deliberations on the charges against the then-mayor’s son—have not been fleshed out in the modern era politically.

Perhaps more superficially, Pelosi’s comments about the matter also undercut a key Democrat talking point in the MeToo era where powerful men have gone down over allegations against them from women. Democrats have claimed they want to “believe all women.” In fact, when the U.S. Senate confirmed now Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh despite allegations against him, Pelosi issued a statement calling it a “profoundly heart-breaking day for women, girls and families across America.”

“Courageous women risked their safety and well-being to speak truth about this nomination,” Pelosi said about Kavanaugh’s confirmation. “Tens of thousands more joined them to share their own harrowing stories of sexual assault, at great personal risk. Yet, Senate Republicans chose to send a clear message to all women: do not speak out, and if you do – do not expect to be heard, believed or respected.”

But Pelosi makes clear in this new interview for Page’s book that she never once believed the young girls who made accusations against her brother.

Page wrote that Pelosi said “she never doubted her brother’s innocence” and that “she said it was either a politically motivated prosecution aimed at hurting her father or a case of another defendant trying to shift the blame to someone else.” At the time of the rape charges for which Roosie was acquitted, Pelosi’s father was the mayor of Baltimore.

This instance with her brother is not the only time Pelosi has defended men accused of sexual misconduct by women, either. When now former Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) first faced accusations that ultimately forced him to resign from Congress after decades of service, Pelosi defended him and praised his career. According to Business Insider, Pelosi in a Meet The Press interview called Conyers “an icon in our country”who she said has “done a great deal to protect women.” She pushed the matter to the Ethics Committee to handle, and refused to call for his resignation.

State Dept. Defends Kerry’s In-Person Climate Meeting with China, Claims They Are Not Ignoring Human Rights Abuses

The U.S. State Department is defending Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry’s trips abroad to discuss climate change, including a meeting with an official in China, despite ongoing reports of the Chinese Communist Party’s egregious treatment of its own people in “re-education” camps, including widespread rape, forced abortions, and forced sterilization.

Vox reported on Kerry and made the point that climate change was the most pressing issue between China and the United States:

In December, U.S. foreign policy expert Thomas Wright wrote an article in the Atlantic with a provocative claim: That Kerry would prioritize extracting climate change-related concessions from China, and to do so would minimize America’s plans to push Beijing on trade, security, and human rights issues:

According to three people familiar with Kerry’s thinking, Kerry believes that cooperation with China is the key to progress on climate change and that climate is by far the most important issue in the relationship between the United States and China. Kerry thinks the U.S. president should use his political capital to press Beijing on this subject. Yes, the United States should stand firm when it disagrees with Beijing, as he believes it did during his tenure as secretary of state, but everything else, including geopolitical competition with China, is of secondary importance to this overarching threat.

Breitbart News asked the State Department, “How can climate change be the most important foreign policy issue with China when the Chinese Communist Party regularly violates its citizens human rights, including putting Muslims in re-education camps where it is reported that people are tortured and even killed?”

“Encouraging the People’s Republic of China (PRC) to commit to more aggressive climate goals does not require us to let up on other issues, including human rights. As noted in the April 17 joint statement on climate, tackling the climate crisis must be addressed with seriousness and urgency,” a spokesperson with the State Department responded via email.

“As Special Presidential Envoy Kerry has noted, climate is a critical standalone issue, and other aspects of the U.S.-China relationship will not be traded for U.S. interests and values, including human rights,” the spokesperson said. “We can compete with the PRC and call out their egregious actions, including their widespread human rights abuses, while working to tackle the climate crisis.”

The spokesperson said the “Biden-Harris” administration has been clear it “is aware PRC is committing genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang against Uyghurs, who are predominantly Muslim, and members of other ethnic and religious minority groups, including imprisonment, torture, enforced sterilization, and persecution.”

The spokesperson called for China to “end these atrocities immediately.”

“The United States has called upon the leaders of the PRC to immediately release all arbitrarily detained people and abolish the internment camps; to cease enforced sterilizations; to end all torture; and to stop persecuting Uyghurs and members of other ethnic and religious minority groups in Xinjiang,” spokesperson said, adding that the U.S. would “consider all appropriate tools to promote accountability for those responsible and deter future abuses.”

The spokesperson said the U.S. has to “insist” China do more to reduce emissions given the “worldwide climate crisis.”
