NASA’s Artemis II Crew Uses Iceland Terrain for Lunar Training

Black and gray sediment stretches as far as the eye can see. Boulders sit on top of ground devoid of vegetation. Humans appear almost miniature in scale against a swath of shadowy mountains.

At first glance, it seems a perfect scene from an excursion on the Moon’s surface … except the people are in hiking gear, not spacesuits.

Iceland has served as a lunar stand-in for training NASA astronauts since the days of the Apollo missions, and this summer the Artemis II crew took its place in that long history.

NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and CSA (Canadian Space Agency) astronaut Jeremy Hansen, along with their backups, NASA astronaut Andre Douglas and CSA astronaut Jenni Gibbons, joined geology experts for field training on the Nordic island.

“Apollo astronauts said Iceland was one of the most lunar-like training locations that they went to in their training,” said Cindy Evans, Artemis geology training lead at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.

“It has lunar-like planetary processes – in this case, volcanism. It has the landscape; it looks like the Moon. And it has the scale of features astronauts will both be observing and exploring on the Moon.”

Iceland’s geology, like the Moon’s, includes rocks called basalts and breccias. Basalts are dark, fine-grained, iron-rich rocks that form when volcanic magma cools and crystalizes quickly. In Iceland, basalt lavas form from volcanoes and deep fissures.

On the Moon, basalts can form from both volcanoes and lava pooling in impact basins. Breccias are angular fragments of rock that are fused together to create new rocks.

In Iceland, volcanic breccias are formed from explosive volcanic eruptions and on the Moon, impact breccias are formed from meteoroids impacting the lunar surface.

Apollo astronauts said Iceland was one of the most lunar-like training locations that they went to in their training.

Along with exploring the geology of Iceland, the astronauts practiced navigation and expeditionary skills to prepare them for living and working together, and gave feedback to instructors, who used this as an opportunity to hone their instruction and identify sites for future Artemis crew training.

They also put tools to the test, learning to use hammers, scoops, and chisels to collect rock samples.

“The tools we used during the Apollo missions haven't changed that much for what we're planning for the Artemis missions,” said Trevor Graff, exploration geologist and the hardware and testing lead on the Artemis science team at NASA Johnson.

“Traditionally, a geologist goes out with just standard tool sets of things like rock hammers and scoops or shovels to sample the world around them, both on the surface and subsurface.”

The Artemis tools have a bit of a twist from traditional terrestrial geology tools, though.

Engineers must take into consideration limited mass availability during launch, how easy it is to use a tool while wearing pressurized gloves, and how to ensure the pristine nature of the lunar samples is preserved for study back on Earth.

“There’s really transformational science that we can learn by getting boots back on the Moon, getting samples back, and being able to do field geology with trained astronauts on the surface,” said Angela Garcia, exploration geologist and an Artemis II science officer at NASA Johnson.

The Artemis II test flight will be NASA’s first mission with crew under Artemis and will pave the way to land the first woman, first person of color, and first international partner astronaut on the Moon on future missions.

The crew will travel approximately 4,600 miles beyond the far side of the Moon.

While the Artemis II astronauts will not land on the surface of the Moon, the geology fundamentals they develop during field training will be critical to meeting the science objectives of their mission.

These objectives include visually studying a list of surface features, such as craters, from orbit. Astronauts will snap photos of the features, and describe their color, reflectivity, and texture — details that can reveal their geologic history.

“Having humans hold the camera during a lunar pass and describe what they’re seeing in language that scientists can understand is a boon for science,” said Kelsey Young, lunar science lead for Artemis II and Artemis II science officer at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.

“In large part, that’s what we’re training astronauts to do when we take them to these Moon-like environments on Earth.”

Sols 4304-4006: 12 Years, 42 Drill Holes, and Now… 1 Million ChemCam Shots!

Today, I need to talk about ChemCam, our laser and imaging instrument on the top of Curiosity’s mast.

It one of the instruments in the “head” that gives Curiosity that cute look as if it were looking around tilting its head down to the rocks at the rover’s wheels.

On Monday, 19th August the ChemCam team at CNES in France planned the 1 millionth shot and Curiosity executed it on the target Royce Lake on sol 4281 on Mars.

Even as an Earth scientist used to really big numbers, this is a huge number that took me a while to fully comprehend.

1 000 000 shots! Congratulations, ChemCam, our champion for getting chemistry from a distance – and high-resolution images, too. If you are now curious how Curiosity’s ChemCam instrument works, here is the NASA fact sheet.

And, of course, the team is celebrating, which is expressed by those two press releases, one from CNES in France and one from Los Alamos National Laboratory, the two institutions who collaborated to develop and build ChemCam and are now running the instrument for over 12 years!

And the PI, Dr Nina Lanza from Los Alamos informs me that the first milestone – 10000 shots was reached as early as Sol 42, which was the sol the DAN instrument used its active mode for the first time.

But before I am getting melancholic, let’s talk about today’s plan!

The drive ended fairly high up in the terrain, and that means we see a lot of the interesting features in the channel and generally around us.

So, we are on a spot a human hiker would probably put the backpack down, take the water bottle out and sit down with a snack to enjoy the view from a nice high point in the landscape.

Well, no such pleasures for Curiosity – and I am pretty sure sugar, which we humans love so much, wouldn’t be appreciated by rover gears anyway.

So, let’s just take in the views! And that keeps Mastcam busy taking full advantage of our current vantage point.

We have a terrain with lots of variety in front of us, blocks, boulders, flatter areas and the walls are layered, beautiful geology.

Overall there are 11 Mastcam observations in the plan adding up to just about 100 individual frames, not counting those taken in the context of atmospheric observations, which are of course also in the plan.

The biggest mosaics are on the targets “Western Deposit,” “Balloon Dome,” and “Coral Meadow.” Some smaller documentation images are on the targets “Wales Lake,” “Gnat Meadow,” and “Pig Chute.”

ChemCam didn’t have long to dwell on its milestone, as it’s busy again today. Of course, it will join Mastcam in taking advantage of our vantage point, taking three remote micro imager images on the landscape around us.

LIBS chemistry investigations are targeting “Wales Lake,” “Gnat Meadow,” and “Pig Chute.” APXS is investigating two targets, “College Rock” and “Wales Lake,” which will also come with MAHLI documentation.

With all those investigations together, we’ll be able to document the chemistry of many targets around us.

There is such a rich variety of dark and light toned rocks, and with so much variety everywhere, it’s hard to choose and the team is excited about the three targeted sols … and planning over 4 hours of science over the weekend!

The next drive is planned to go to an area where there is a step in the landscape. Geologists love those steps as they give insights into the layers below the immediate surface.

If you have read the word ‘outcrop’ here, then that’s what that means: access to below the surface. But there are also other interesting features in the area, hence we will certainly have an interesting workspace to look at!

But getting there will not be easy as the terrain is very complex, so we cannot do it in just one drive. I think there is a rule of thumb here: the more excited the geo-team gets, the more skills our drivers need.

Geologists just love rocks, but of course, no one likes driving offroad in a really rocky terrain – no roads on Mars.

And right now, our excellent engineers have an extra complication to think about: they need to take extra care where and how to park so Curiosity can actually communicate with Earth.

Why? Well, we are in a canyon, and those of you liking to hike, know what canyons mean for cell phone signals… yes, there isn’t much coverage, and that’s the same for Curiosity’s antenna.

This new NASA video has more information and insights into the planning room, too!

So, we’ll drive halfway to where we want to be but I am sure there will be interesting targets in the new workspace, the area is just so, so complex, fascinating and rich!

And that’s after Mars for you, after 12 years, 42 drill holes, and now 1 Million ChemCam shots. Go Curiosity go!!!

NASA’s Lunar Challenge Participants to Showcase Innovations During Awards

NASA‘s Watts on the Moon Challenge, designed to advance the nation’s lunar exploration goals under the Artemis campaign by challenging United States innovators to develop breakthrough power transmission and energy storage technologies that could enable long-duration Moon missions, concludes on Friday, Sept. 20, at the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland.

“For astronauts to maintain a sustained presence on the Moon during Artemis missions, they will need continuous, reliable power,” said Kim Krome-Sieja, acting program manager, Centennial Challenges at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

“NASA has done extensive work on power generation technologies. Now, we’re looking to advance these technologies for long-distance power transmission and energy storage solutions that can withstand the extreme cold of the lunar environment.”

The technologies developed through the Watts on the Moon Challenge were the first power transmission and energy storage prototypes to be tested by NASA in an environment that simulates the extreme cold and weak atmospheric pressure of the lunar surface, representing a first step to readying the technologies for future deployment on the Moon.

Successful technologies from this challenge aim to inspire, for example, new approaches for helping batteries withstand cold temperatures and improving grid resiliency in remote locations on Earth that face harsh weather conditions.

Media and the public are invited to attend the grand finale technology showcase and awards ceremony for the $5 million, two-phase competition.

U.S. and international media interested in covering the event should confirm their attendance with Lane Figueroa by 3 p.m. CDT Tuesday, Sept. 17, at: lane.e.figueroa@nasa.gov.

During the final round of competition, finalist teams refined their hardware and delivered a full system prototype for testing in simulated lunar conditions at NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland.

The test simulated a challenging power system scenario where there are six hours of solar daylight, 18 hours of darkness, and the user is three kilometers from the power source.

“Watts on the Moon was a fantastic competition to judge because of its unique mission scenario,” said Amy Kaminski, program executive, Prizes, Challenges, and Crowdsourcing, Space Technology Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington.

“Each team’s hardware was put to the test against difficult criteria and had to perform well within a lunar environment in our state-of-the-art thermal vacuum chambers at NASA Glenn.”

Each finalist team was scored based on Total Effective System Mass (TESM), which determines how the system works in relation to its mass.

At the awards ceremony, NASA will award $1 million to the top team who achieves the lowest TESM score, meaning that during testing, that team’s system produced the most efficient output-to-mass ratio.

The team with the second lowest mass will receive $500,000. The awards ceremony stream live on NASA Glenn’s YouTube channel and NASA Prize’s Facebook page.

The Watts on the Moon Challenge is a NASA Centennial Challenge led by NASA Glenn.

NASA Marshall manages Centennial Challenges, which are part of the agency’s Prizes, Challenges, and Crowdsourcing program in the Space Technology Mission Directorate.

A leading oncologist is raising the alarm about the staggering surge in cancer cases among young people.

Stranded Astronauts Plan to Vote From Space

Two American astronauts stranded in space said Friday they plan to vote in the presidential election from space.

Astronaut Butch Wilmore told reporters during a call, "I sent down my request for a ballot today."

He said, "It’s a very important role that we play as citizen including those elections, and NASA makes it very easy for us to do that."

His colleague, Sunita Williams, said "It’s a very important duty that we have as citizens and looking forward to being able to vote from space, which is pretty cool."

The astronauts will make their choices via an interactive PDF that is password protected to ensure secrecy. Election officials in Texas are working with NASA to make it happen.

A spokesperson for the Harris County clerk told NBC this week, "Before sending the astronauts their ballot, it is transferred to a fillable document so that they can make their selections, save it, and send it back. A test ballot with a unique password is always sent first.

Once they vote on their live ballot, it is returned, printed, and processed with other ballots."

The first American astronaut to vote from space was David Wolf in 1997, who was aboard Russia’s Mir space station at the time.

Astronaut Kate Rubins voted from the International Space Station in 2020.

The two astronauts have been stuck at the ISS since June, when the Boeing Starliner that brought them there suffered serious problems midflight.

They won’t be able to return to Earth until February, when they plan to return in a SpaceX capsule.

UTA to lead NASA wildfire grant

A University of Texas at Arlington professor was awarded a major NASA grant to develop a new-generation tool that will allow states, counties and cities to predict how much damage wildfires will cause to freshwater supplies.

Adnan Rajib, assistant professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, is the principal investigator of this three-year, $824,020 grant.

He will lead a multi-disciplinary team composed of computer scientists, satellite technology experts and water managers from Purdue University, the U.S. Geological Survey and several government and non-government agencies across the western U.S.

“This is a project that will make an impact nationwide,” Dr. Rajib stated. “Wildfires and other climate-charged disasters are becoming more destructive and more frequent. No community should be thinking that it’s not going to happen to them.”

As Rajib, who is also the director of UTA’s H2I Lab, explained, “wildfires dramatically alter the natural flow of water and contaminate freshwater sources with debris from burned areas.

In severely affected regions, it can take years for water sources to recover. There is no easy way to predict such cascading hazards of wildfires, meaning communities are in the dark when protecting freshwater resources.”

To create their tool, Rajib and his team will use NASA satellite information to collect data from wildfires that have occurred and analyze it with the help of geospatial technology and artificial intelligence.

This information will then be used in a computer simulation model to predict the altered stream flow and water quality.

Lan Zhao, a senior research scientist at Purdue University’s Rosen Center for Advanced Computing, serves as co-investigator and lead software architect on the project.

“Satellite data on fire and water are complex and challenging to interpret,” Zhao said. “Students, researchers and practitioners in fire-affected communities often do not have the expertise to overcome this barrier.

We aim to develop a powerful tool that simplifies this process, making it easier to utilize satellite data in managing and mitigating fire hazards.”

Melanie Vanderhoof, a research geographer with the U.S. Geological Survey and a member of Rajib’s team, noted that "wildfires can make it difficult to maintain clean water supplies, especially in communities with limited resources for regular monitoring.

Our project will help bridge this gap by providing essential data to those who need it most."

Brian Chaffin, executive director of the Clark Fork Coalition, a science-based watershed nonprofit in Missoula, Montana, will support the team by organizing training workshops for water utility and other water quality agency personnel in the western U.S.

“Strong community involvement will ensure that the project’s outcomes are practical and immediately beneficial for day-to-day decision-making,” Chaffin emphasized.

The NASA grant comes to UTA just after the February 2024 Texas Panhandle wildfire devastated over 1 million acres of land, becoming the largest wildfire in Texas history and the second-largest in U.S. history.

Wildfires cause the country to lose between $400 and $900 billion each year in economic costs and damages, a figure expected to rise as such events become more frequent and severe.

Melanie Sattler, professor and chair of the Department of Civil Engineering at UTA, views this project as a prime example of how the department is at the forefront of using data science and geospatial technology to tackle emerging environmental challenges.

“Rajib’s work can become our compass in navigating the changing environment," she said.

Erin Urquhart, water resources program manager at NASA headquarters, noted that “this project advances NASA’s Earth Science to Action initiative by addressing environmental threats like droughts, floods and wildfires.

We’re making NASA’s wildfire impact data accessible and actionable, empowering water managers to respond to post-fire hazards, prioritize interventions and plan for future climate challenges.”

“I am pioneering what I call humanitarian technology to help underserved communities better protect themselves,” Rajib said. “I’m excited to work alongside NASA, my partners and local communities to make a meaningful difference.”

OnAugust 30th, 2024 the FDA approved the new ACAM2000smallpox vaccine for use against monkey pox.

The warning label of this vaccine says:

"Individuals who are vaccinated with this vaccine should quarantine for 4 weeks after injection. During this quarantine individuals cannot handle babies, be around pregnant women, cannot go swimming or be in hot tubs, cannot use public restrooms, share a bed, clothing, or be in close contact with an unvaccinated individual."

It also says on the warning label that this ACAM2000 smallpox vaccine "may cause the spread of smallpox".

But the worst part. . .at the bottom of this vaccine insert, it states- "Death of unvaccinated individuals who have contact with vaccinated individuals may occur".

United Airlines bumps GEO operators off fleet for Starlink Wi-Fi

United Airlines is replacing multiple geostationary operators with Starlink in SpaceX’s largest aviation Wi-Fi deal, shaking up the last satellite broadband market where the low Earth orbit (LEO) constellation had yet to gain significant traction.

The U.S. carrier announced plans Sept. 13 to start equipping the more than 1,000 planes in its international fleet with Starlink connectivity next year, following tests slated for early 2025.

Nicole Carriere, a spokesperson for United, declined to comment on rollout timing and details by aircraft type but said the company will transition from current Wi-Fi partners Viasat, Panasonic, Thales and Intelsat in “a multi-year process.”

United, which has more routes across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans than any other airline, plans to offer passengers high-speed, low-latency Starlink Wi-Fi for free.

“Everything you can do on the ground, you’ll soon be able to do onboard a United plane at 35,000 feet, just about anywhere in the world,” United CEO Scott Kirby said in a statement.

According to United, supported Starlink services would include live streaming, gaming and the ability to connect multiple devices at once under one user.

The announcement surprised analysts, including William Blair’s Louie DiPalma, who said Viasat’s inflight connectivity service has been considered the gold standard in the industry.

“We expected that Starlink would win the Panasonic Avionics (wide bodies) and IntelSat (regional) equipped aircraft, but not the 536 ViaSat-equipped planes (336 of which are indirectly served through Thales Aerospace),” he wrote.

According to DiPalma, Viasat currently dominates commercial inflight connectivity with 3,750 commercial aircraft in service and another 1,460 in backlog.

Essentially all new planes for United, American Airlines, Southwest, and JetBlue come pre-installed with Viasat Wi-Fi, DiPalma added, and the geostationary operator is still set to be the market share leader five years from now because of the time it takes to retrofit and certify planes.

“ViaSat’s aviation revenue will likely also continue to grow,” he said.

“However, Starlink is positioned to have the highest aviation market share over the next decade as this landmark deal will likely lead to other wins.”

DiPalma told SpaceNews via email that a portion of Viasat’s 1,460 aircraft backlog may be reduced following the Starlink deal.

“In our estimation, sometime in 2025, there will likely be a point in which the ViaSat pre-installs stop, and Starlink will be added to new delivery planes,” he said.

Viasat said it does not expect any material changes to its financial outlook based on United’s Starlink announcement.

“Based on our understanding we believe our current contracted aircraft and contracted backlog will remain in service through the remaining years of our contract with United Airlines,” Viasat spokesperson Scott Goryl said via email, referring other questions about contracts to United.

“In-flight connectivity is a large, attractive growth market,” Goryl added.

“For these reasons, it has always been competitive and given the ever-increasing demand for connectivity, there is room for multiple players.”

Assuming each United aircraft currently connected with Viasat generates $120,000 in revenue every year for the satellite operator, DiPalma said this amounts to around $64 million in annual sales for the company, or roughly 1% of total revenues.

He said it would also likely take three years to roll out the Starlink service on all United aircraft.

Starlink’s United partnership follows Wi-Fi agreements with smaller airlines and regional jet service providers including Hawaiian Airlines (being sold to Hawaiian Airlines), airBaltic, Qatar Airways, Zipair, JSX, Flexjet and Aero.

Small U.S.-based regional jet service providers JSX, Flexjet, and Aero have said Starlink services have already launched on their planes.

However, Hawaiian Airlines, the first major airline to announce a deal with Starlink, and airBaltic of Latvia have pushed out plans to offer the services from this year to 2024.

Details around plans by Qatar Airways and Japan’s Zipair to deploy Starlink connectivity are also scarce.

Competition between OneWeb and Starlink could soon come to a head after Alaska Airlines announced plans Dec. 3 to buy Hawaiian Airlines.

Telesat secures $1.9 billion government funding for Lightspeed

Telesat has secured government funds covering more than half the $3.5 billion cost of its proposed low Earth orbit (LEO) Lightspeed broadband constellation, the Canadian geostationary operator announced Sept. 13.

The combined 2.54 billion Canadian dollars ($1.9 billion) of funding from the governments of Canada and Quebec comprise a mixture of loans and warrants that can be exchanged for stakes in Lightspeed, a constellation of 198 satellites slated to begin launches in mid-2026.

The bulk of the funding, 2.14 billion Canadian dollars worth, comes from the federal government, which is getting warrants for 10% of Lightspeed in a deal valuing the constellation at $3 billion.

The government of Quebec is providing a 400 million Canadian dollar loan under similar terms, detailed earlier this year, and is getting warrants for 1.87% of Lightspeed.

Another 400 million Canadian dollars of funding for the constellation is coming from a vendor that Ottawa-based Telesat declined to disclose.

Telesat plans to use its own equity to cover the remaining cost for what CEO Dan Goldberg said is the largest space program in Canada’s history.

Canada-based MDA is preparing to start producing the 750-kilogram satellites in the coming months.

Commercial Lightspeed services from LEO are due in 2027, joining competitors Starlink, OneWeb and likely Amazon as the internet giant prepares to kick off Project Kuiper’s launch campaign this year.

Finalizing government funding for Lightspeed follows years of negotiations and delays for a project that was initially planned to be much larger, more expensive and built by Europe’s Thales Alenia Space before pandemic-related disruption.

Telesat said it has increased its Canadian workforce by about a third in the past 12 months as it expects to spend as much as 1.4 billion Canadian dollars on the project this year.

“This is good news for our economy,” Quebec Premier François Legault said in a statement, “not only are we consolidating 650 existing jobs, but we are creating nearly 1000 paying jobs in a cutting-edge sector.”

MDA expansion

Separately, MDA announced Sept. 13 that construction has started on a 17,000-square-meter expansion to its satellite production facility in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec, which would double the site’s manufacturing capacity.

The manufacturer said the expansion is needed to deliver up to two software-defined Aurora satellites daily for Lightspeed and other constellation companies.

Telesat is the anchor customer for Aurora, which uses a digital payload that can be reprogrammed in orbit.

MDA is also doing early work for an undisclosed party seeking to use Aurora for a mystery non-geostationary orbit constellation.

Former National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster adds to UFO speculation

Former National Security Advisor and retired Army Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster became the latest official to make eyebrow-raising comments about UFOs, now formally rebranded as “unidentified anomalous phenomena” or UAP.

Asked about UAP during a Sept. 6 appearance on “Real Time with Bill Maher,” McMaster stated that “there are phenomena that have been witnessed by multiple people that are just inexplicable by any kind of science available to us.”

McMaster’s intriguing comments come at a critical moment in a growing national discussion about UAP.

The Senate is poised to take up the bipartisan Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena Disclosure Act, arguably the most extraordinary legislation ever introduced in Congress.

Sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), the Disclosure Act alleges that a decades-long government “legacy program” has secretly retrieved and is attempting to reverse-engineer UAP of “unknown” and “non-human” origin.

Not only is “non-human intelligence” formally defined, but the attention-grabbing term appears two dozen times throughout the 64-page legislation.

Astoundingly, the Disclosure Act would also require the federal government to take possession of “any and all” recovered UAP and “biological evidence of non-human intelligence” transferred to private defense contractors.

With multiple seemingly credible sources corroborating the existence of such secret programs, it is imperative that Congress pass the legislation without delay.

The introduction of the Disclosure Act, along with fascinating public comments like those from McMaster, marks a seismic shift in the official tone on the UFO phenomenon.

For over six decades, the U.S. government implemented a formal policy of “debunking,” “ridiculing” and dismissing even the most credible UAP incidents, frequently with demonstrably absurd and unscientific explanations.

But the December 2017 publication of a bombshell New York Times article fundamentally transformed the discourse on this long-stigmatized topic.

Asked in 2020 about seemingly inexplicable, years-long U.S. Navy encounters with UAP, former CIA Director John Brennan made a jaw-dropping statement, suggesting that “a different form of life” might be behind the perplexing incidents.

Over a decade after they were first formally reported, naval aviators’ daily observations of UAP exhibiting amazing flight characteristics off the East Coast remain officially unexplained.

John Ratcliffe, director of national intelligence under former President Trump, injected fascinating context into recent military encounters with the UFO phenomenon.

In a 2021 interview, Ratcliffe stated that UAP “have been picked up by satellite imagery [and] frankly engage in actions that are difficult to explain, movements that are hard to replicate, that we don’t have the technology for.”

U.S. intelligence analysts, Ratcliffe continued, have “high confidence” that foreign adversaries such as China or Russia were not behind one of the most extraordinary, best-documented UAP incidents.

Alarmingly, Ratcliffe stated that UAP exhibit “technologies that we don’t have and, frankly, that we are not capable of defending against.”

In light of these remarkable developments, Congress must get to the bottom of the decades-long UFO mystery and pass the UAP Disclosure Act.

‘This Error Is Regrettable’: Hundreds Of Non-Citizens Registered To Vote By Oregon’s Department Of Motor Vehicles

Officials in Oregon admitted Friday that a data entry mistake registered over 300 non-citizens to vote in the state since 2021, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

Kevin Glenn, a spokesperson for the Oregon Department of Transportation, said an analysis conducted by the department showed that 306 non-citizens were registered to vote when they applied for driver’s licenses, according to the AP.

Of those mistakenly registered, two have voted since 2021 in spite of state and federal laws restricting non-citizens from voting, Glenn added, according to the AP.

Since the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) automatically registers people to vote when they receive a driver’s license, Glenn said, the mistake is “basically a data entry issue,” the outlet reported.

Glenn explained that DMV employees sometimes incorrectly indicate that a person applying for a driver’s license or state ID has a U.S. birth certificate or passport even if they don’t, the AP reported.

Oregon’s Secretary of State, LaVonne Griffin-Valade, who said her office only learned about the issue Thursday, issued a statement Friday addressing the mistake, according to the AP.

The secretary said the 306 people “will be notified by mail that they will not receive a ballot unless they demonstrate that they are eligible to vote,” the AP reported.

“While this error is regrettable, the secretary and the Elections Division stand by automatic voter registration and its many benefits,” Griffin-Valade added.

While Democratic Oregon Governor Tina Kotek said, “This situation will not impact the 2024 election in any way,” DMV Administrator Amy Joyce told The Oregonian/OregonLive that further investigation will likely reveal more non-citizens registered to vote.

Non-citizens have been able to obtain driver’s licenses in Oregon since 2019, the AP reported.

The IDF has produced no evidence of hostages, land mines, tunnels, weapons-caches or Hamas militants. It’s all an excuse to destroy the plots of land where people bury their loved ones. But, why? These graveyards pose no security threat to the IDF or to the Israeli state. They’re just cemeteries.

CNN has reviewed satellite imagery and social media footage showing the destruction of cemeteries and witnessed it firsthand while traveling with the IDF in a convoy. Together the evidence reveals a systemic practice where Israeli ground forces have advanced across the Gaza Strip.

The intentional destruction of religious sites, such as cemeteries, violates international law, except under narrow circumstances relating to that site becoming a military objective, and legal experts told CNN that Israel’s acts could amount to war crimes. CNN

You can tell that the journalist covering this story is disturbed by what he’s seen. He’s disturbed because plowing up the withered remains of loved ones –and leaving them to rot in the sun among clods of dirt and broken headstones– is a shockingly callous and evil thing to do. We don’t expect humans to behave this way. We expect them to show some small amount of respect for the dead. But, here, we see the exact opposite. Here, we see corpses treated like garbage that must be disposed of so the settlement project can move ahead.

Mayor Robert Rue, Springfield, Ohio, recently stated that there were no cats/animals being eaten in Springfield and that the City was a great place to live, while attacking Pres Trump for telling the truth. The rumor is that Rue is renting his properties to illegals, which is not yet verified.

After doing research on Clark County website this is what I found:

Mayor Rob Rue seems to own quite a bit of rental properties in Springfield under the name LITTLETON PROPERTIES OF SPRINGFIELD LLC, images attached. He directly owns these properties based on a County business search.

If Mayor Rue is renting out his properties to illegals the public should know. He should recuse himself from any vote on the Commission because he directly benefits financially from any federal funds received to support the illegals.

holding company with Jetlines, successfully completed a public share

“Domesticating” the holding company as a U.S. citizen, necessary for

GlobalX to proceed with this application, finally took place in December

REPORT: Springfield city leaders have been sounding the alarm about their housing crisis for months as residents claim they are being kicked out of their homes to accommodate Haitians.

The media has tried claiming there is no housing crisis however city leaders including Springfield City Manager Bryan Heck have been desperately begging for help for months, long before the Springfield story blew up.

Heck sent the following letter to the Senate Banking Committee in July.

"Springfield’s Haitian population has increased to 15,000 – 20,000 over the last four years…putting a significant strain on our resources and ability to provide ample housing for all of our residents. Despite 2000 additional housing units set to come online over the next three to five years, this is still not enough."

JD Vance even raised awareness on the issue during a Senate Banking Committee hearing with Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.

"Given the current low inventory of affordable housing, the inflow of new immigrants in some geographic areas could result in upward pressure on rents, as additional housing supply may take time to materialize," Vance warned.

"With labor markets remaining tight, wage growth has been elevated at around or above 4%, still higher than the pace consistent with our 2% inflation goal, given trend productivity growth.'"

During a recent city meeting, one resident said that landlords were kicking out longtime tenants to house Haitians so they could charge "triple the rent."

Rue is embarking on his second term as commissioner and first as assistant mayor. He said that he had sought reelection because he believes that the city has made many steps and he wanted to continue to be part of the decision-making process.

As assistant mayor, Rue said that he will be able to learn more from longtime mayor Copeland.

Moving forward, Rue said that he wants to focus on bringing economic opportunities to Springfield as well as work with public and private organizations in order to save tax payers money.
