Supporters of former President Donald Trump are calling out The New York Times for an opinion piece on Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance and his rejection of "creedal nationalism."
"This is disgusting by @nytimes," posted on X Matthew Boyle, the Washington Bureau Chief for Breitbart News Network.
“Editors should intervene and correct this and apologize for it.”
"Really gross from the @nytimes," posted Jim Banks, a U.S. Senate candidate in Ohio.
"It's disgusting that the media is now pushing these ridiculous, violence inciting claims about @JDVance just two months after @realDonaldTrump was nearly assassinated," wrote Alex Bruesewitz, a Trump campaign adviser.
"Also friendly reminder to the media & the left that JD is the father of 3 biracial kids. They should immediately retract and apologize to JD."
All three included a screenshot of the opinion piece written by Times columnist Jamelle Bouie, titled, "JD Vance's Blood-and-Soil Nationalism Finds Its Target."
The piece's headline, though, has since changed to "Shouldn't JD Vance Represent All of Ohio?"
"This kind of propaganda is untrue — and dangerous," Steve Cortes, a former Trump adviser, wrote on X. "Corporate media viciously smears @JDVance, because he is so effective at unmasking their lies and narratives."
Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, posted: "So now the Times is directly calling JD Vance a Nazi. This is the kind of regime propaganda that nearly got President Trump assassinated. What else can we conclude except the NYT wants JD Vance dead?!"
Donald Trump Jr., also chimed in, posting: "Just months after a psychopath tried to assassinate my father, the @nytimes is now openly trying to incite violence against @JDVance. PS: JD is the father of 3 biracial kids, which makes this smear even more disgusting!"
The newspaper would "retract this and apologize" if they had any ethics, Andrew Surabian, a Republican strategist, wrote on X.
The Times, added Morgan Ortagus, a former spokesperson for the Department of State, "tries to somehow paint my friend @JDVance as the problem for American Jews."
"I can tell you from my public and private conversations with him, that he is ardently pro-Israel. Further, he refuses to tolerate the open season on Jewish Americans that has flourished under the Biden-Harris Administration. I look forward to the Oct 1st VP debate, where JD will absolutely expose Walz and Harris on these issues," she posted.

The man in custody in connection with what is being described as a second assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump has a long criminal and civil court history, including a conviction for possessing a machine gun.
Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was taken into custody after shots were fired at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday, three senior law enforcement sources said. In 2002, court records show, he was convicted of possessing a weapon of mass destruction — the machine gun.

In that case, a man named Ryan Routh, 36 at the time, allegedly led authorities on a vehicle chase before he holed up at a roofing company in Greensboro, North Carolina, according to an account at the time by the Greensboro News & Record.
A person named Ryan Routh resided for decades in North Carolina, property records show. Most recently, a Ryan Routh lived in the small coastal community of Kaaawa on Oahu’s eastern shore in Hawaii. Authorities there did not immediately respond to an inquiry about any possible contacts with Routh.

After the 2002 arrest, authorities allegedly found the suspect in possession of a fully automatic machine gun, according to the Greensboro News & Record report. The arrest coincides with North Carolina criminal court records that include Routh's conviction for possession of a weapon of mass destruction.
Records also show convictions for carrying a concealed weapon, possession of stolen property and hit-and-run. In those cases, which included misdemeanor convictions for violations such as resisting an officer and driving on a suspended license, the defendant received a suspended sentence and parole or probation.
There’s no record of time spent in state prison related to those cases in the early 2000s.
Court records show more than 100 criminal counts have been filed against Ryan Routh in North Carolina, most in Guilford County, which underlies Greensboro. The exact outcome of each case was not immediately clear Sunday.

The court records for a person named Ryan Routh also show a 2003 divorce, as well as multiple civil judgments after contractors and individuals sued a roofing company he helped run.
On Sunday, Palm Beach County State’s Attorney Dave Aronberg said on MSNBC’s “Ayman,” with Ayman Mohyeldin and Ali Velshi, that the federal government is taking over prosecution in the West Palm Beach case, with the U.S. Justice Department expected to file any charges.
He argued that a defendant wouldn’t have to open fire for the case to include a charge of attempted assassination.
Aronberg said it was his understanding that Routh was “lying in wait” for Trump before U.S. Secret Service agents spotted him. Routh had aimed at the agent who fired at him, Aronberg said; the exact chronology of what took place is still unclear.
Routh was “pretty quiet” and “pretty compliant” after a Martin County sheriff’s traffic unit took him into custody on Interstate 95 one county to the north of Palm Beach, Aronberg said.

This was a professional hit on Trump
Two backpacks each with ceramic tiles. A go pro. An AK style sniper rifle (likely an AR-15) and a convenient witness to snap the picture.
Here's how it works;
The two backpacks are there to narrow return fires ability. With those bags hanging between the rifle it limits the ability of the secret service to get a clear shot should the assassins first shot miss. Those bags allow him to take the needed shots to complete the job while blocking his head and face. Without a direct head on view of the shooter return fire isn't as successful.
The go pro is there to record proof of death. Either through live stream or through a drop site.
The rifle itself is designed to be something anyone could get in order to make this look like some radical did it.
Finally the witness. They did their job. They had one job, hear shots, see the assassin get in the suv and take the picture. They planned on the assassin making a getaway but needed to ensure he was caught and disposed of. Unfortunately what they did not plan for was that the shots fired were from the secret service and not the assassin. The witness doesn't know this though so they take the pic thinking the job is complete. Without that pic this guy doesn't get caught.
This was so clearly planned by a professional.

Update (1615ET): The FBI issued a statement :
“The FBI has responded to West Palm Beach Florida and is investigating what appears to be an attempted assassination of former President Trump.”
Another official commented that Trump was "probably 300-500 yards" from the alleged shooter.
The former president has issued a statement confirming he is "safe and well" and declaring "nothing will slow me down"…
AP reports that the alleged shooter fled in an SUV and was later apprehended in a nearby county by local law enforcement, the officials said. The officials were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity about an ongoing investigation.
An AK-style firearm was recovered at the scene near Trump’s golf course, one of the officials and a third law enforcement official said.
The golf course was partially shut down for Trump as he played, and agents were a few holes ahead of him when they noticed the person with the firearm, the officials said.
The person appeared to push the muzzle of the rifle through the fence line and that’s when agents fired, the officials said.
