The only saving grace is that this does not have an extremely high mortality rate (so far as we know). I doubt the official statistics claiming mortality is as low as 5% but even if it were up to 20% and they're covering it up that's still a pretty large survival rate. Additionally, any sodium hypochlorite within the water will slowly outgass. Meaning, if you use too-much, just wait for the extra to "evaporate" out of the water. But you'll need to vent it for this to work. If you pour a glass of bleach-treated water and are worried that it will be "too strong", just let it sit our overnight and any excess sodium hypochlorite will come out of the water in the form of little bubbles. Tap on the glass, and they'll dissipate into the air.

I live in a high-desert valley, and a number of people I know get water delivered annually. They store it in cisterns and treat it with bleach. I was forward-thinking enough to buy property above the aquifer, so I have ground water where i live it's 51 feet down, and is about 45degF in temp. I also ordered two more this morning, and I'm hoping they arrive before the Boogaloo begins in-earnest. I was going through my bleach and alcohol too quickly, so I'm hoping to use UV-C to help with disinfection. The lack of supplies will be our biggest threat considering over 90% of our pharmaceuticals are made in China. So is much of our medical equipment. The biggest cause of death would be mandatory quarantines as far as I'm concerned, just because without the proper amount of supplies and medicine quarantines just end up death traps for everyone in them. That is why I have planned to barricade myself indoors and avoid society as much as possible.
