German Festival Turns Into African Civil War!
Several armed Africans from Eritrea attacked and injured police officers and helpers at a festival planned in the city of Gießen (around 50km north of Frankfurt) over the weekend. This happened just before the start of the Eritrea Festival, which was scheduled to take place at the city's exhibition center on Saturday evening.
Investigations are now being carried out, among other things, on suspicion of bodily harm and breach of the peace, according to a spokeswoman for the central Hesse police headquarters. Witnesses are currently being questioned, evidence collected and witness statements evaluated. The police spokeswoman could not give an exact number of the injured and arrested Eritreans.
Several videos have been circulating on Twitter, showing the attacks.
At first, Tigray supporters, around 200 young people, protested in front of the venue. A little later, some of them pushed through the fences and stormed the site. The attackers used iron bars, knives, sticks and stones against festival workers as well as police officers who were present to protect the event. The officers fought back with batons and pepper spray.
The police were able to break up the riot after a while, temporarily arrest a “large number” of attackers and secure various weapons on site, including knives and iron bars. Rescue workers who were summoned, arrived a little later to provide medical care to the injured.
The Eritrea Festival was canceled by police order. Even in the run-up to the event, there were discussions about the authority to interpret the event. Exiled Eritreans who are in opposition to the government in the African country had tried in vain to have the cultural festival banned by a court in advance. Their main point of criticism was that the military leadership in north-eastern Africa was using the festival to collect donations in Germany.
I guess Oktoberfest will have to be re-located to rural Missouri this year.

Alright. I'll give you one. Not doing this again for OPSEC reasons. Back in the late 80s me and my family went on a road trip, one of my favorite vacations. We visited various small town diners to eat and random tourist spots across Oklahoma to New Mexico. One night we ended up staying in the great little town of Gallop in an old motel where I kid you not, me and my wife stayed in the exact same room John Wayne once stayed in, my daughter was old enough to have another room at the time so for a vacation I allowed her. Forget where she stayed, but it was another room an old celebrity stayed in back in the day. The El Rancho motel, and it's still there I believe but from the last time I heard they remodeled it. Cute little bar in the back of the lobby past the motel restaurant I would spend some time drinking. Anyhoot we got a kick out of it! All kinds of celebrities back in the day stayed there, all the greats! From John Wayne to Kirk Douglas to Dean Martin to even Doris Day, and lots more, stayed in that very motel when they would be traveling for filming movies and shows down South. You know who else stayed there? Ronald Reagan, and he got his picture taken there before too! Nothing very exciting happened, no celebs there at the time, although it was a fun trip and one of the last good trips with my wife that I can remember before we both started to separate from one another over bad habits and personal grievances.
