John Franklin Bash III is an American attorney who served as the United States Attorney for the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas from 2017 to 2020.

Early life and education

In 2003, Bash graduated from Harvard College, where he was a staff writer for the Harvard Crimson.[1][2] In 2006 he received a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.[3][4]

Career

After law school, Bash clerked for Antonin Scalia of the United States Supreme Court during the 2007–08 session, and earlier for Brett Kavanaugh of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.[5]

Following Bash's clerkships, he was an associate attorney at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, where his practice focused on complex litigation in federal district and appellate courts.[5][6] From 2012 to 2017, Bash was an Assistant to the Solicitor General in the United States Department of Justice.[7][8] In that role, he argued ten cases on behalf of the United States before the Supreme Court of the United States.[9] In 2017, he was a special assistant and associate counsel to U.S.

Before he was U.S. attorney for the Western District of Texas, Bash's district played a role in the implementation of the Trump administration's family separation policy. A pilot program on family separations was implemented in El Paso, Texas before Bash was U.S. Attorney, and he did not continue the pilot under his tenure. A memo was prepared for Bash by staff that had participated in the pilot; it showed that if children younger than 12 were separated from their parents, most would not be able to find their way back to their parents. Bash never sent the memo to Justice Department officials in Washington D.C. because, after suggesting that they might ask him for the information, the officials never reached out.[16] A draft report by the Department's inspector general's office said that he did not send the memo because he had "no interest in pushing DHS to restart family unit referrals or in nationalizing the concluded pilot program," according to the draft report, and that he thought sending the memo would "re-commence the discussion."

Although Bash did not design the Trump administration's family separation policy, he did help carry it out. He initially refused to prosecute two cases which would lead to the separation of children from their parents. However, after a phone call from Rod J. PARIS — Flowers, art, and Dior’s world-famous ateliers collided on Friday for a sweet-smelling explosion of creativity. The house’s Paris Fashion Week show was an homage to late British painter Duncan Grant and celebrated member of London’s Bloomsbury Group, who died in 1978.

VIP guests gawped as they entered a DIOR-branded tent to discover the makeshift country vista - replete with about 19,000 real poppies, wildflowers and flora planted on hills beside two reconstructed English country houses. All this for the 10 minute fashion show. The set was, of course, intended to evoke Grant’s rolling landscapes.

There were almost as many famous faces on display as flowers. David Beckham and son Cruz, Naomi Campbell, J Balvin, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel were among the starry Dior front row staring out across the petals and tufts of grass.

John McAfee's corpse still in Spanish morgue a year after his death

BARCELONA (Reuters) -The body of software entrepreneur John McAfee remains in a Spanish morgue a year after his death as a legal case lodged by his family to demand further checks is yet to be resolved, authorities and his lawyer said.

McAfee, who launched the world's first commercial anti-virus software in 1987, was found dead, aged 75, on June 23 last year in his prison cell a few hours after Spain's high court authorised his extradition to the United States on tax evasion charges.

The British-American mogul had been jailed in the Barcelona-area Brians 2 jail for eight months following his arrest after years on the run from U.S. authorities.

The autopsy determined he died by suicide. Prison authorities said he had already attempted to kill himself four months before dying.

Shortly after his death, McAfee's widow said he was not suicidal and that she would seek "answers."

"It's difficult to put into words what life has been like this past year," Janice McAfee tweeted on Thursday, calling on users to sign an online petition "to help pressure" Spanish authorities to release McAfee's remains.

The petition, signed by 1,365 people so far, calls for an independent autopsy "to determine if the official cause of death can be challenged or investigated privately".

McAfee's family considered the original autopsy to be incomplete and asked for further checks, which were denied by a local judge, said the late entrepreneur's lawyer Javier Villalba on Wednesday. The family appealed that decision.

A judge then ruled that McAfee's body could not be handed to the family until their appeal was resolved, the lawyer said.

Catalonia's court system did not reply to a request for comment.

The corpse remains at the same Barcelona morgue where the autopsy was conducted, said a spokesperson for the regional government's justice department, adding that it was uncommon for identified bodies reclaimed by their families to be stored for such a long time.
