Look into whatever it is you can afford to do and the best solutions for you, and just do it if it's possible for you. I live in rural Missouri in a very low populated area. The types of people I have gotten to know around here are not the types you see in yuppie suburbs or cities. Sounds like you'd need to change the default font of your operating system in the system settings. This might become a big hassle if your using that computer for regular activity though.
