When did this guy stop being so popular? He's the second highest selling music artist of all time, surpassed only by The Beatles. In fact, I like his music more than The Beatles. I used to listen to him sing first thing in the morning and again before bed. But one day, the music stopped. Now nobody listens to his music. It's like nobody even remembers him.

Two reasons: Fame is fickle and fleeting, and he's a country artist. I briefly looked over his discography on wikipedia and his albums have been selling pretty well in the past decade, but like with many other big artists that doesn't equate to being in the spotlight, even if it's a critically acclaimed album. Country as a genre has been a common punchline for a while anyway, so it's not like anything he puts out is going to hit big with the current zeitgeist.

He's the only artist or group to have seven diamond certified records. The Beatles only have six. Beatles have him beat when it comes to units sold but then again they've been around for 30 years longer.

He's probably just not popular in cities anymore, but in the suburbs and in the country, he's still the King of Music.

That link is worldwide, I think OP is only talking about the USA; He didn't do very well outside of NA.

Just Imagine if the chinkos over in china started liking country music… we would have President Garth Brooks and that's a good thing

Chris Gaines sold more records than any of Paul McCartney's solo efforts. Chris Gaines outsold many Beatles records, too.

I had no idea Meat Loaf existed until I got curious and looked up the bestselling albums on jewikipedia. How in the hell do these people fly under the radar?

People don't realize how easy it is for (((companies))) to rewrite music history (or history in general) when everything is on the internet.

No one I know personally has a physical movie or music collection, and just stream everything. If something isn't on Netflix/Hulu/Spotify/Pandora/Prime they don't even know it exists.

That's why I try to find physical copies of what I like, you never know when it will be memory-holed.

I just keep pirated lossless copies of any music I really like. Everything else, I would be content if it disappeared. You have to choose what gets saved, really, because not everything can be saved.

You're not missing out on much tbh, Meat Loaf only had a handful of good songs.
