A lot of people don't realize just how much Hitler gained from all the free loot in Austria and Czechoslovakia, and from Poland later on. And if Hitler gets delayed by having to fight in Austria and can't loot Czechoslovakia, then Poland would have to wait until mid to late 1940, and Britain and France would have another year to build up and mobilize.
And that threatens the success of the hail mary that was Manstein's plan, by having a force in the path, deployed and able to respond and communicate its problems quickly enough for the force in the Low Countries to sweep down and respond.
And thats assuming it happens at all. If Austria doesn't fall quickly, of the Wehrmacht is repulsed, Hitler's regime might not survive.
