I think I stated the same thing in the other thread about this, he was almost tackled by someone and managed to avoid this by keeping his wits about him and staying observant rather than falling into tunnel vision. When attacked he handled it very well indeed, managing to shoot him before he could grapple and tie him up. His rapid fire for not having an automatic was extremely good. He appeared to do a good job of observing his targets and making decisions quickly on the fly, even deciding to just pump rounds into a group instead of doing single target fire. Shotgun jam so much? Good question, even cheap pump action shotguns can be extremely reliable. Slow stroking, short stroking, sometimes I've seen pump shotguns dump or attempt to dump a second shell from the tube when maintenance is poor. Might have to look at that myself again.

Second rifle? In short term operations, from a professional standpoint, weight is less of an issue so if one wants to take the extra precaution of a second backup main gun one could do so. The reason is for why you mention, assault rifles aren't machine guns and they don't work as well in real life fights when they get hot. If he was planning on getting caught switching rifles makes perfect sense, especially as he was relying on hammering rounds fast and hard like he was. A fresh rifle in such cases is like a fresh horse, you can run hon him with less worry of breakdown. If he planned this it shows possible smart planning, or real professionalism.

Why he didn't take the shots? Since we can't see what he saw, and GoPro sucks for anything longer distance, we can't say for sure. Real life situations are high stress and fluid, hard to say what he was thinking.
