Vietnam era soldiers still had people with the knowledge of WW2 infantry fighting, which taught them to drop all their gear when going into fighting and to hunt down their enemies with their weapons only.

There is no uniform style to these, because the German military started to sew rabbit fur onto all kinds of hats after experiencing the Winter in Norway. Some are factory production, many others were made by the soldiers in the field.
What they all have in common, is that the fur of the ear flops can be put on top of the hat.
