Really puts time into perspective, when Anne Frank was born, men who had born while Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie made their last stand at the Alamo still walked the Earth. When her mother was born, some of the Union veterans still would've been in serving in the United States Armed Forces (last Civil War vet to leave military service retired shortly after end of World War I).
Had she been born in the United States, Anne might very well have heard tales of the American Civil War from those men growing up.
For perspective, my own direct ancestor who fought in the Civil War as a teenager (he joined the Confederate Army at roughly the same age Anne was at the time of her arrest) lived until 1936. She would've been a doting little six year old at the time of his death.
By the way, one of the men in that interview talks about fighting the "Dutch". He's actually not referring to people from the Netherlands, but Germany. German immigrants in the United States during the 19th Century were frequently referred to as "Dutch", owing to the very common mispronunciation of "Deutsch" (the actual term for a German person). In the atmosphere of Know Nothing hysteria, Germans were almost universally derided and viewed with suspicion, if not outright hatred, especially in the South because of their pro-Union sympathies.

Where did you find these high resolution scans? My understanding was that her family still had possession of all known photographs of her and generally didn't scan them except for historical/exhibition purposes. And they're still protected by copyright unlike Matthew Brady's work, so they could prevent photos of her from being posted without their permission.

I literally used google images, man. The desktop version has the tool section where you can choose what size you want images to appear, it was still kind of difficult to find them, I didn't just search Anne Frank and found all of them, I had to specifically reverse search some of them in low resolution and then use the settings to search the versions with the highest resolutions.

It always struck how radiant she always is in her portraits. So fond of smiling (as gorgeous as it was) that she does it in practically every photograph. In sharp contrast to the stern or unemotional expressions you see in most daguerreotypes from the Civil War or even later in 19th Century.
I'm quite the opposite, I very much prefer the stern pose to smiling because I just suck at forcing one.
