WE STAND WITH OUR CRIMEAN TATAR BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN UKRAINE AGAINST RUSSIAN AGGRESSION!

a83f2b  No.11002[Last 50 Posts]

We need to take steps to ensure our privacy. Do not let them pull the "if you've got nothing to hide" card; that's like saying we don't need freedom of speech because "I have nothing to say." I have nothing to hide. I am not a terrorist nor am I interested in helping terrorists, but my emails and such are mine and I refuse to lay down and let the government walk all over my freedoms. So, if they want to exploit me, I'll make them work for it. So should you.

Important Tools:

Favorite Linux distributions:

https://antixlinux.com/ - Non-systemd distro based on Debian. Perfect for small laptops.

https://www.kali.org/ - Offensive defense.

https://www.ubuntu.com/ - The most common and user friendly OS.

https://trisquel.info/ - Based on Ubuntu but without added software.

https://www.torproject.org/ - Not useful by itself, but should be used in tandem with other things.

If you have any suggestions or tips for computer/online security and privacy, feel free to post it here. This sticky will be permanent so long as I own this board.

If you continually get that annoying pop-up that forces you to hit reply multiple times until it finally posts, then open up your User JS in [Options] and enter the following code:

[Obsolete code redacted]

It will detect the pop-up and continually retry for you until it sees "Flood Detected" or the post is successful. Sometimes it seems to take a while, but with a site as broken as this you have to expect it.

Please don't say that. Tor is incredibly useful by itself, and Tor Browser is incredibly easy to use. Saying "it is not useful by itself" only discourages people from using it.

However, you should still take certain simple steps to avoid revealing your real identity, such as not logging into forums under your real name. You can read Tor Project's warnings on their website: https://www.torproject.org/download/download.html.en#warning

Filters only work when something is typed and it does not discriminate. What would you want it added to? If added to the name 'Muhammad', then what about someone discussing 'Muhammad Ali', the boxer? It could be added to "The Prophet", but then what if someone is discussing the Kahlil Gibran book of poetry?

Filters are messy.

you should add qubes OS to your list of linux (it isnt really linux though, its xen). its unhackable, if theres an exploit on say your wifi card the OS runs your wifi connection inside a vm and all the other vms connect through their, so that way a virus exploiting your wifi is locked inside of your wifi vm and cant spread to other vms.

Here is way to keep clean from cookies - identifying things.

Boot Puppylinux on USB. I use LXPUP and sometime Porteus. Its just about 200MB. Use WUBI or YUMI to "flash" it into the USB thumbdrive.

Set your computer BIOS to be able to boot from USB (some F12 or something needed to select BIOS boot page), plug-in the USB and viola, comes complete with Seamonkey browser, office tools and other stuff - complete, at less than 500MB.

Power off and everything is gone (I just pull out the power, who cares about shutting down, except HDD head parking).

Its also good as backup boot in case your comp cannot boot. I manage to run without processor fan (not CPU, but processor fan!) and salvage my pc, win7? not even reach the login screen- really lightweight!

Whats bad ?

GUI is not that good, especially puppylinux. Porteus and LXPUP is cool.

You need to setup Wireless/Networking every time, but it have autos config, no need typing.

You cannot save, but thats easy if you know how to mount HDD or in frugal mode.

Another option is Porteus. Same stuff, light weight, zero footprint, complete basic office/productivity package, module based (if you want other stuff).

Ubuntu and its variants - bloated, and probably contained backdoor through systemd, heavy.

Give it a try - boot from USB.

Booting from USB every time is actually a very good way to keep safe. I always carry a USB with Tails on it and use it on any computer that isn't my own - like at the library or a friend's. It leaves no fingerprints.

I also have Redhat on my home laptop, which seems to be the best option for a more permanent OS.

Disclaimer: this post and the subject matter and contents thereof - text, media, or otherwise - do not necessarily reflect the views of the 8kun administration.

58181d  No.26102

Porteus and LXPUP is also install able as permanent OS or dual boot.

Various installation options

—–From USB into RAM - no boot manager

—–From USB into RAM but load a permanent file as storage - frugal - no boot manager

—–From a single file OS and storage - frugal with boot manager

—–From HDD partition - permanent with boot manager

Actually, with linux, there exist lots of lightweight RAM based distro option, but watchout for systemd. I dont like systemd.

If on windows, I'm using DeepFreeze. This ensure I'm booted to "fresh" environment every time.

DeepFreeze will "freeze" your windows OS, so what ever you do on the frozen drive will be cleared. Its good to avoid virus, trojan and who knows what, provided the OS already clean before you freeze it.

No need bloated and trojaned antivirus ! Yay.

If you need to make changes, you can "thaw" it. Remember the password!

Good side

I dont care windows update, removed it, no more bloat

I dont care antivirus, its bloated and pc will sluggish, trojaned.

I dont care Windows Defender, bloated and who cares, I'm frozen

I dont really care cookies/whatever, I already clean and set the necessary stuff BEFORE I need it.

I dont care virus, infect me away, reboot and begone!

If my PC stolen, it will still carry my stuff (unless reinstalled)

If I need software, installed the 30 days trial and use, on reboot, its gone, reinstall again.

Bad side

Dont forget the password or it will stay frozen forever.

Whatever you save will be gone too :), I save stuff on the storage drive

Can be bypassed when dual booting into linux (require physical access to boot it)

I've seen this lacking in this thread, so I'll add it myself. Use Tor first, then connect to a VPN (Preferably Mullvad). This can be done with something like VMWare or the grugq's PORTAL (https://github.com/grugq/portal). I recommend using PORTAL because it routes all your traffic through Tor limiting the chance of ☻ing up like Sabu for instance, and VPN won't know who you are, as long as you pay with Bitcoin and mix it.

I want to reccommend that everyone check out QubesOS. It's a great VM-based distribution that has Whonix gateways built in. It sandboxes all the applications you run in their own isolated VM, and lets you create and destroy disposable VM's with ease. When used with proper security practices, you can use it to be a very effective internet boogeyman, creating new browser fingerprints with ease.

Non-muslims here, so don't take me as an authority on what would be halal, but here's my suggestion

I would use OpenBSD, if at all possible

There's plenty of things you can do with a PC but none that you guys would really need, OpenBSD with a web browser, Tor if possible, a telegram client, and maybe a discord client would be the best option

The ideal would be something like Contiki/Kolibri OS running on an 8-bit computer, they already have web browsers but don't have great image support and don't have discord/telegram, I'm currently looking for the most minimal OS/hardware solution for my own interests, I'll report back with what I find

The problem with all the OSes in the OP is they're all too complex to be maintained by one person, all we really need is a way to encrypt messages and send them back and forth, and minimal web browsing
