I think I finally figured this out. Copy the link then within RetroShare go to Files>Downloads. Right click in the field where downloads get listed and select "Paste RetroShare Link.

While retroshare is running select the link and right click on "open in a new tab/window". Answer Yes to "Do you want Retroshare to make modification ?" and a new window appear with the file you want to download. Select the destination folder and click "Download".
