I am absolutely not defending the game for reasons you stated later, but it makes sense to me. The game is nothing more than jerkoff material and it doesn't pretend to be more, with romance being just a set-up for the porn part. You choose the girl you like the most, get through bit of a story, unlock the porn (I have not played the game and I don't intend to but I assume it's this simple). Then unlock some more porn that has monsters. There is nothing deeper, no reason to get emotionally attached to any character.

Compare it to something like Makai Tenshi Djibril that started as vanilla eroge VN series then turned into 100% NTR focus with sequels.
