Been working on an a sort of AC-styled ero VN/RPG type game. Aiming for something like CoC but with a bit more lifesim elements to it. I'm still building out tools and nailing down the data schema for things, but I've also spent some time with the more fun bits. The goal is to be able to turn out content like dialogue quickly without hand-animating every single interaction with dialogue tags and simple animations for standard interactions, and more fleshed out animations for more intimate scenes. Lemme know what you guys think. I'd like to post updates here if that's alright.

Give me all your weird ideas or feedback. I can't guarantee I'll implement any of them, but I'll certainly try my best to improve when priorities are in order.

What do you mean by AC-styled? Just the text boxes and sounds, or like walk around in a village, have your own house and interact with the characters? The way I'm laying out the internal data representation should hypothetically allow me to present the game in different ways (graphically/textually), though I'm looking to keep it a healthy balance of text and models to accomodate my solo-developer status. You'd interact with it largely the same way you interact with something like Corruption of Champions, but there'd be much more polish in the UI.

When I say AC-styled, I mean to say that it would incorporate a lot of non-erotic lifesim elements like having villagers wander around from location to location where you can chat them up and see how they're doing. If you're familiar enough with them, you can hang out in their house and have more intimate conversations. They'd have some sort of schedule, individual likes, dislikes, (hopefully) different physical attributes and personalities/dialogues assigned from a pool of stock types.

If I can rig things really well and parameterize their model attributes cleanly, I could make them entirely RNG'd so that you could have completely unique villagers, but I can't know for sure just how well that'd end up looking. I may stick closer to AC and just hand-tweak them from a base model with different textures and bone proportions to give them different looks.

My loftiest goal is to make a male and female human player model that is modular enough to hybridize with other species and eventually become full anthro if the player chooses.

My highest hope is that each villager will have a large variety of interactions and dialogues to discover as well as individual preferences and speeds for relationship development. There'd be a healthy mix of slutty characters that will put out easily and more conservative types that demand a little more investment to impress. I'd like to take it even further and allow for them to form relationships between each other and subscribe to relationship paradigms (strict monogamy, lax monogamy, polygamy, etc.), allowing you to facilitate relationships or destroy them through intervention.

That's all getting a bit ahead of myself, I'd like to focus on the simpler aspects of modeling the sim, but that's the long-term goal.

I think the best way to go about this is to have a sort of checklist at the start where a player can choose what sort of things they do or don't want which ensures that everyone gets exactly what they want with nothing they don't. The randomized characters idea is really neat, but that leaves the possibility of a player not finding someone they like so being able to turn things off or having other things be more common ensures this won't happen. You could also do something similar with ranges for body shapes.

There seems to be two distinct design philosophies in these kinds of games.

The first is to allow players to set content preferences to their tastes, the second is to make all content available all the time and let the player make the decision on the fly.

I think there's a smart way to do the latter without putting people off. As someone who is as straight as they come, I liked the presence of gay content in these kinds of games for the simple fact that it gives your heterosexuality some kind of consequence. The second you start letting people tick off items on a menu to excise content, it contributes to an overall feeling of artificiality that I think makes the sexual component cheap.

For example, let's say pregnancy puts you off (how dare you) and you want to indiscriminately rawdog every encounter. Instead of making it a menu option, just provide a magical contraceptive pill with 100% efficacy that you only need to take once. Maybe associate an interesting sort of quest to go with it, or have a sort of ordinance system that lets you declare procreation illegal so villagers stop breeding. Any of these options creates a story and frames your character in a certain light that might even be kind of memorable and humorous when you think about how insane it would be to ban some specific activity purely because you dislike it.

To take it further, let's say you like pregnancy but birth is just too far (even the clean and expedient hentai-interpretation of it). Instead of removing birth scenes systematically, just give your player the option to be present or to avoid it as it comes up. You can still engage with the system of breeding and pregnancy without having to witness the inevitable consequence of it first-hand.

If it became a highly requested feature, I might cave in and implement it, but I'd much rather stick to doing it the way I'm describing. Hopefully people will be happy with that.

I understand that you want to have some depth in the game world to flesh it out as a game, and I can respect having that kind of integrity. But there's one thing you seem to be glossing over here:

People aren't going to be playing this for the gameplay. They're not going to care about the writing, even if it's really high quality. They're not in for world building either. They're in it to jerk off, plain and simple.

I know this sounds harsh and it sucks to hear, but you're kind of shooting yourself in the foot with that logic. You seem to be trying to make some sort of passion project here (art, form) but you're adding in pornographic content (product, function). People are going to want nothing more than to get to the content or scenes they want, to jerk off to said scene and likely close the game afterward. Having something like unwanted pregnancies just obfuscates the function with the form for anyone who's not into that. It's like when you're reading a doujin and the fat ntr guy shows up out of nowhere.

You need to focus on what it is you actually want this game to be, porn or an actual game? If you go with what I suggested, you can very easily maintain both form and function. With this people can get exactly what they want with nothing else, and you can still express your creativity in the details. Some people won't care about or want these details, and forcing them to see them won't make them appreciate them more.

I used to think this before I started doing serious research and committing time to developing this idea, but after looking at the data, it's simply not true.

Fundamentally, there is a desire to be aroused that drives the market for erogames, yes, but how people engage with their arousal and sexual desire takes many forms, and the sheer diversity of successful erogames reflect that reality in a demonstrable way.

Popular erogames run the gamut of difficulty, presentation, explicitness, and genre. For me, there are a lot of these games that don't appeal to me, and nonetheless collectively generate revenue in excess of millions because not everyone is like me.

The only conventional wisdom I follow in this regard is to simply know who my target audience is and try to build as strong a product for them as I can manage. If I feel there is really a lack of focus, I can always make adjustments along the way (the code I'm writing is thankfully highly re-usable.)

Hope this assuages any concerns you might have. At the very least I can assure you that it's not going to take hours for you to get to the good stuff when it's out.

I feel you on this front. One of my few gripes with CoC is that there's a ton unavoidable encounters with herm characters boasting gigantic horsecocks on full display.

I'm not grossed out or particularly offended by anything, but to me this kind of hypersexualization baked into the atmosphere and worldbuilding that demands everyone be sexually available and presenting at all times is comical in to a degree that is almost un-erotic for me.

The thing is, I intend to allow the player to choose when and and how they engage with the adult content. Characters aren't going to be presenting themselves out in the open unless that's something you want, and if that's something you want, there will be some steps you can take to achieve that.

It wouldn't be so much a question of technical implementation as it is fitting it into the game world in a compelling way. Pregnancy/birth is easy for me because it would allow you to create new villagers. Body modification/growth is also easy since it lets you tailor a particular character to your preferences.

If some explanation is rendered, it will be unobtrusive and just there as a little interesting something you can read at your leisure.

My concern is more "how can I make it both arousing and simultaneously interesting as a mechanic on its own?" I think that it's a missed opportunity when your game has all this sexual content and players are going to skip a lot of it not because they find it offensive but because it's simply not that interesting to them.

I'm not into vore at all. But one thing I can tell you is removing a villager in AC is a pain. It'd be fucking kind of sadistically pleasing if I could just eat them and make them disappear instead of pressuring them into moving away by roundabout means or hoping they want to leave on their own.

The breasts and belly work a little differently.

The breasts are shape keyed for different sizes, but also have bones for jiggling that can be resized to further expand them. It's just kind of a happy accident that the breast bones (lol) work well this way.

The belly, on the other hand... well. I could add a hyper-preg shapekey but there is a limited amount of vertices to work with, at a certain point it'll just look blocky and terrible. Let me get back to you on that.

Well these are just my personal tastes on things, but sizes that that can be fun for a no context but I also like the subject to have some sort of dignity to them. With the context of it being something like in your game, I'd like her to be not too big that she can't move, but big enough that she could easily pin me under her massive tits/belly and bully me into feeding her and rubbing her belly except I would be doing it regardless because I'm taking responsibility and also that shit is hot as fuck. It's hard to say.

Right now the system only accommodates associating a prefabricated character with a given actor. The second I finish the actor/room/item system I'm going to try to generate some content that's mostly text, light on the visuals.

Once I'm confident that the content creation workflow is solid to where I can create an interaction, a room, or a character easily, then I'll be ready to start making more models for them.

On that note, this is a very difficult process for me, mostly because I've never built anything quite like this before, and I tend to get racked with indecision on how a feature should look because I'm afraid it's going to be super ugly trying to go back and fix it later down the line.

I can now write modular little scripts and slap them together on actors.

I don't look at a lot of vore, but I do feel like I've noticed a pattern where the only time you actually see the act happen is when the predator is macro. When it's same-size pred/prey, almost every depiction is sort of the aftermath- a distended belly, maybe a foot in the mouth.

My thinking is that there probably aren't that many people who want to see the kind of degree of jaw-unhinging that would be required to actually devour someone your own size.

Now that's all fine and dandy, I'm not judging, but it presents a bit of a conundrum, seeing as if you want to represent vore visually, you kind of also need to bring macro along with it- and if you don't want macro, then doing the visuals of same-size pred/prey would be really tricky to do without looking really weird and unrealistic. As for movement, it's very much like CoC, only with a sort of scene view in the center of the game that will either display text or models of whatever you're currently interacting with. I want to give the game a more visual focus with more animated dialogue to set it apart from CoC, while still delivering most of the content through text. As for fetish stuff, I have to keep the scope limited at this stage as I'm the sole developer/artist/monkey working on this thing out of a studio apartment with barely any income.

The plan is to have generic scenes (sex between you and the randomly generated villagers) and unique scenes with characters who are pre-written.

All scenes would be narration + talking character bust as a placeholder, and at a minimum I would aim to have multiple animated positions/scenes for opposite and same-sex pairings.

Among other things, part of what I have planned are ways to surreptitiously get a peek at them in their private moments and potentially get scenes this way, as well. Progress has been a little more on the graphical side of things this week.

In earlier posts I demonstrated the shader for the anthro base model and how you could tweak the shape keys and material parameters to create different looks by hand.

One of my goals for this project is to generate these automatically, and to that end I've written a couple scripts to automatically acquire all the possible features and materials and set them.

Right now the process is 100% random within some range restrictions, but the script does its job and I no longer ever have to go manually resizing bones or mucking about with the material pane.

Due to being totally random and lacking in a variety of quality pattern textures, the early results aren't all winners. Once I've drawn more decent texture patterns and created a list of sane color palettes to start with as a basis, these should start looking better.

Just spent a day wrestling with a very annoying problem.

Without getting into the gory technical details, Unity's editor and C# both handle saving data differently, which is to say C# is better at it and Unity's editor isn't nearly as robust and I had to spend some time working around it.

The end result has two implications:

1) I can now (finally) store any arbitrary property I want on an actor/item/room much the same way you can in a language like JavaScript. This way an actor only has the variables it needs rather than deriving from some monolithic base "actor" class packed with variables that will only be used by some actors.

2) I can now reference said properties in the dialogue easily with some tags, thus tying together a ton of work I've put into this monstrosity. This means I can create dialogues that permanently affect the state of actors and objects AND will be fully saved when you save your game. Hurray.

I also moved dialogue into a convenient xml file so if for SOME reason someone finds this worth translating, you could hypothetically implement a translation without too much fuss.

Have you done 3d stuff before? PBR texturing takes longer, occupies more hard drive space, and ram. It also tanks the performance of mobile ports. Cellshading has it's place as it's performance friendly.

You work in VFX, right? Your workflows are completely different.

Vidya really about the design and performance, art is just a bonus. If your game is unplayable from bad design or performance, then the art won't save it at all. You don't need to have good art the first time you start deving, that would be a waste of time. You need to have a rough before you replace it.

Try making simple stuff like pong or asteroids in Godot, Unity, or Unreal by looking at the documentation. I think it's kind of smart that the dev went for cellshading as he could go for a mobile port that could run on all devices. GLES2 runs well on most hardware, but it doesn't support materials which suuuucks.

I think this game is a great idea!

I hope there will be an option to play as either a male or female character preferably not just one or the other.

I also hppe the choices of partner include multiple genders as well, that way it could cater to basically everyone's tastes.

You used CoC as a great example and your game's graphics are already way more advanced than that (last time I played CoC, it has been a few years).

Made some big improvements to the shading model. I factored a bit of rim light into to bring out shadowed forms a better, and I'm using the green channel of the vertex colors to paint speculars on specific regions, allowing for shiny noses and... other areas. Going to have to do a little re-mapping for UVs because I also completely retopo'd the face so that it deforms better for animation.

Sorry for the long absence, I know people are getting antsy about me having a sticky here with sparse progress. (to be fair... I never asked for it, but I also didn't object either!)

I'll keep it brief: I got a job, then I quit the job, and now I have a lot of free time between doing odd gigs to stay afloat. I'm not asking for money or anything, just filling you in on where the time has gone.

I've also been taking a look at what I've built so far and realized I was over-scoping the project for very little gain. I'm not trying to build a rack-2 style everything-you-can-imagine fuck-sim. I've determined that going the dynamic model route is going to diminish the overall quality of the model versus actually hand-making models for different morph types, and the gains don't seem worth it.

To bring the scope back, I think I'm going to focus on making unique characters. I'm not going to completely can the idea of generics, but in the interest in getting something playable and interesting out further, I feel like most players would prefer characters over blank-slate sim-like vessels.

As a creator who has followed your advice faithfully for years, I can tell you that it doesn't work. I have no regrets drawing requests, offering demos, or rejecting auctions/YCHs. However, people still don't respect you as this "based honorable ethical businessman". Instead, the majority of them will try to exploit you and insult you as much as possible while leaving you in complete obscurity. And I don't blame the consumers for it, how can you give value to people who don't value themselves at all?

Ridicule Jasonafex or fek all you want, you remember and mention their names more over those who don't do what you're complaining about.

I do agree that the fandom should strive to become better and benevolent, but most people don't reward those at all. I don't blame anyone for being exploitative if people treat you like complete shit regardless of what you do. At least you get cash, exposure, and free time out of one option.

I remember a few years ago on here or /furry/ when this site used to be called 8chan there was a Patreon funded game called Yiffalicious and the guy making it showed up to defend his project against detractors. He even posted a copy of his replies to his site for authentication.

Back then Patreon was still new so it felt as if the community needed to take a stand otherwise they'd be infested with scam artists that did nothing but make big promises and deliver as little as possible to keep the gravy train going with constant low effort updates. This was at the height of GG so all the crowdfunding disasters like Star Citizen and Fig were still fresh in our minds.

So now 5-6 years later the OP whom doesn't seem to be promising more than he can deliver or selling anything and seems willing to share updates about his project here is getting caught up in old drama he has nothing to do with.

Now you see why most devs go for the money despite having nothing more than a character controller. You have two choices behind doing a project:

<no money+ more drama.

Being transparent, cool, competent, and benevolent doesn't earn you extra respect or popularity. If anything, people repeatedly treat you like shit because you don't grant value to yourself regardless of what effort you put in. They also feel that they can mold you into what they personally want. It's easy to please one person, but it's going to be hard to do it with several that have contradictory interests. That's why creators go for mass appeal despite it being cliche and predictable.

Ironically, I see less drama with paid unfinished projects that nickel and dime people than free/completed ones that listen to their consumers. It shouldn't be that way, but that's how it unfortunately is. If you listen to talks (like vid related at 27:35), then you'll hear plenty of devs imply that consumers have poor convictions when it comes to taking a stand. Just do your own thing and do whatever it takes to do it well.

On discord, you can't delete the messages of others when you dm them regardless of whether you friend them or not. You're only able to delete your own posts. You can only pin, quote, or set the posts of others to "mark unread". I also tested it out on mobile and it gave me these options.

Here's why we don't believe you:

1. You're immediately smearing people instead of apologizing or asking for an explanation.

2. You're hiding your alt/throwaway.

3. You likely deleted your own posts, which gives the implication that you didn't say anything innocuous.

4. You're not telling the truth.

He didn't give any death threats, he just said that it was weird that you were stalking him to the point where you found his other aliases while not revealing who you are. Thinking about it now, it's kind of funny that you're complaining about him being paranoid when you're the one hiding the name of your alt account.
