Where are you from?

Have you ever met another furry from where you're at?

What was it like?

I'm from Luxembourg, and apart from a group that disbanded a couple of years ago which I barely interacted with, I never met anyone else.

I've heard of this place, but it shows how worldly I am that I didn't know it was its own country. It looks really pretty!

I'm on the east coast of Hell the US. I haven't met any furries in my area, but I do visit furry friends out west and attend gatherings there. Furry art jams are fun.

I live in Germany half of the time and the other half in Poland.

I've never tried meeting other furries irl. I actually avoided it, because I assume they're mostly after sex, as most of the furry community seems to be of lonely, permanently horny people.

Maybe I'll go to a convention with my furry spouse this summer though, who's quite eager to go to one.

Germany here too, and I refuse to meet furries or go to any more convention because of the degeneracy I've seen amongst basement dwellers and especially weebs.

I grew up in a time where I was beaten up for every shit I liked, and nowadays it's not even considered cringy anymore and enforced. I'm sick of that. I didn't attempt to be normal and unassuming for over a decade just to see how being a weird ass creep has become cool and attractive.

Well, I always thought the term "degeneracy" which has been kind of memetically blurred should refer to behaviour which is directly or indirectly harmful to others, by "degenerating" to behaviour deemed socially unacceptable for good reasons.

I don't know how you use the term degeneracy, but even by my idea of the term, which would exclude just having very weird fetishes or things like that, I very much believe that there is a lot of "degenerate" behaviour in those communities from what I have heard and seen.

They are turbo promiscuous and coombrained and there seem to be a lot of corrupters and groomers about. I'd love some hypothetical irl friend group who is into furry stuff among other things though. Maybe some day...

Personally I think it's great that people can act freely and just be as weird as they truly are inside nowadays and more and more people are accepting of that. But when some people just do have personalities that are destructive for themselves or others it's just reasonable to impose social pressure on them not to act like that. Somehow people go so overboard on their funky ideologies, that they seem to forget that some societal rules are there for good reasons. And then there are some people that aren't delusional and they're well aware what they're doing is evil, such as actively corrupting others into deep degeneracy rabbit holes, but they are surrounded by enough of the former people that they can play dumb or part of those ideological groups and get away with it...

There are certainly enough people that are creepy and degenerate enough, that I didn't care for socialising in those groups very much, but I guess maybe sometime during that summer when I'm going to the convention and all I'll give the whole thing more of a chance.

>>116365

I am not generalising or compartmentalising individuals, but not pointing out the high amount of bad actors inside the furry fandom in general would be odd to me.

I'm always happy to get to know individuals and as unprejudiced and uncompartmentalising as I can.

On another site someone posted a cancellation of some canadian furry convention to 'show their tears' (there's some guy who's been posting canadian furry news on lulz for years, obsessed even beyond me). Actually all the screenshots showed almost only furries being responsible, but I wonder at what point even small events get cancelled. 50 people, 10 people, 5 people... and when they start enforcing.

I love how everybody's forced into lives of isolation out of nowhere. People trying to cope with working from home like it's the new norm. Welcome to my life, enjoy your extended stay!

I've gotten involved with a furry group and... why do they feel so normalfaggy? 90% of the discussions involve alcohol, videogames, inside jokes and personal drama. Most of my time with them I just patiently listen and try to get involved in the conversation, but the opportunity never comes up. While one of them was the one to invite me, it feels like they aren't really welcoming of me there at all. I thought furries were meant to be awkward introverts like me and not "my work colleagues except into gay yiff".

It's taken me a while to recognize how weird statements like this are. Like does any of that even slightly matter? Honestly, who cares about someone unapologetically being who they are and repping what they enjoy? It's not like you're describing him being rude or aggressive about the subject. There's no affront to public decency by wearing a tail or collar. Were you vicariously embarrassed because someone didn't care about breaking social stigma? Because any "flack" based on how good you are at hiding away from the people who don't like you is hollow bullshit to be ignored.

I was actually surprised that this community is popular around South America, that it even had an old news about it.

My first presence from a legit furry was an Brazilian convention. A girl with a crow fursuit that cosplayed as pókemon's trainer.

The most surprised thing from my life, because I always believed that community wasn't relevant around here.

People that'd like to be able to mention they're into anthropomorphic animals in the same manner as being into cars or something?

Just be able to throw it in your "Likes" section or whatever on social media and not have everyone assume the worst about you.

I'm not sure what you're getting at. I was talking about people policing others' response to stigma, not fearing it personally. Are you saying that a stigmatized person may enforce conservative boundaries so that the stigma isn't reinforced in ignorant people? I know that tendency, but aside from being depressing, it doesn't work. Ignorance and suppression empower prejudice, and it takes uncomfortable work from able people to break those down and free up others in their group to do the same.

Sucks that happened to you though. I will promote furry positivity and creativity for you furiend.

>I was talking about people policing others' response to stigma

Aren't you doing the same thing by trying to make everyone just accept it?

>Are you saying that a stigmatized person may enforce conservative boundaries so that the stigma isn't reinforced in ignorant people?

Yes.

I'm trying to not make an ass of myself in public with furfaggotry, so that others don't end up looking bad.

There's a reason people get fired for doing personal shit just because they were wearing their employer's uniform, or their parents kept telling them to stop crying in the store and making them look bad.

Your overbearing positivity is nice and all, but what people do when flying that furry flag reflects on everyone else under it good or bad.

If the bad keep being accepted instead of ostracized, that's all everyone's going to see.

>but aside from being depressing, it doesn't work

Maybe in the "Vote with your Wallet" argument, in that it doesn't work because people just won't do it.

>Ignorance and suppression empower prejudice,

A constant stream of people living up to stereotypes empowers prejudice.

>and it takes uncomfortable work from able people to break those down and free up others in their group to do the same.

It's gonna be a while before anyone's going to make public sex, bestiality, and general social ineptitude become widely tolerated.

I'm glad you see me as upbeat, but I admit I don't have the energy to have a go at heavy cynicism right now.

I'll be general and say I have a distinct perspective of furry stuff and I believe in educating people over suppressing others. Being close to a lot of terrifying biases gives me some familiarity with the importance of that, among some other dynamics of prejudice that are a little too heavy to mention here. That said, accessorizing tails and using cropped porn avatars are pretty silly things to humour as drivers of hate towards anyone. People assign and collect petty grievances as informed by their root ignorance and bias. There's an endless well of excuses to invalidate people.

Anyhow, I hope things go better and you find some wiggleroom for furry chat.

I'm from Finland. There are furries across the country, though of course many are based around the capital area. Even in my city we have 20-30 furries who have made themselves known - there's probably more lurking.

I like hanging out with furs. Maybe I've been lucky, but it seems that a lot of the furs in Finland are not the stereotype of being autistic idiots. Sure, there are some people you like more than others, but that's true of any subsection of people.

Autistic idiot furs are more of an american thing. Euro furries are mostly chill, except for coomer germans.

Kentucky born and raised, only furries I've ever met were the turbo-autists in high school, and that drove me so far in the closet that I don't think I'll ever make an effort to meet any in my area. To give you some examples of their behavior:

>they wore cat and fox ears everywhere

>they'd bark and meow at people constantly

>one time someone barked at one of the cat eared girls and she started crying

>one of them had a google plus that he would post fat lucario porn to daily in class

>same one dug up his dead cat and "cuddled" it - no confirmation if he did anything else

>we were afraid a few of them were gonna be the next big school shooters

Yo, LI fag here.

A part of me can live with the ears and tail thing in small doses; I probably would avoid hanging out with them in public 95% of the time. But yeah, everything else. Sucks because meeting decent people online doesn't seem to really fill that void you know.

It be like that. I used to check out the zeemaps around me pretty often but there's nobody in a four hour radius of me on any of them. so I just gave up after a while.

I'm not super rich but I wouldn't say I'd ever have to worry about money either..

I'm really lonely though, part of why I made the thread is to find someone else.

No luck so far, though. Maybe I'll find someone from another country to move in with me one of these days..

Luxembourg anon, you sound very rich. Don't be shy please. Lets put it this way : are you or your family, millionaires?

I actually like the "aesthetic" of a nice rich person with a good soul.

I'm not gay though, good luck finding your soul mate!

UK here, same for me too. I only feel safe talking to other furfags with the spice of "Chan Culture"(TM) and anonimity this sort of format brings.

I'm also in the east coast in Jew York. How do you guys go about meeting people? I've only bothered to try getting into contact with people recently after coming out like a decade long depression and loneliness brought on from isolation. All the few contacts I've made are in the West Coast/Europoors and I'd like local people to maybe hang with in person.

Soviet Swedistan here.

Met, but don't hang out with local furries. You're either "in" or have no reason to bother. It's like getting a girlfriend, if there's no immediate progress just look somewhere else.

You should look into MUCKs or IRC if you want to know people online, the text environment filters extroverts roughly like chans do.

Only 8kun culture or Krautchan culture (if that still exists), but Cuckchan culture has become so mainstream, every Zoomer is part of that "culture". And they still think /b/ is edgy in this day and age.

Chicago. Or rather, Chicagoland.

I did a meetup with a furry while in college. He was ok, but we didn't really connect, so it was quite awkward. Never met anyone else.

My interest in math, programming, vidya, jazz, and vaporwave combined with disinterest in tv shows and pop music seem to make me rather boring to most people.

It's not that weird stuff was embraced by the public, it's just that weirder harmful subcultures cropped up and made the furry fandom look normal by comparison.

The fandom could be better, but you'll never be weird as a group of 20 year olds who make manifestos and snuff films on Twitch/Facebook as a political statement.

Poland here.

Met a ton of futures, local, countrywide, foreigners. Most were chill. I hang out with locals a lot. Of course there are spergs and autists, but there's an easy way to deal with them. Just don't invite them to hang your with you. Easy as that

Mid-southern America- one. At a comic convention- apparently they went to my Christian private ass school too and were nervous as shit. This was a year or two ago. I’ve seen then maybe once since. Not very interested, but it’s nice to know there’s more than one in my little area.
