Been reading, writing and consuming media from many perspectives lately. Dropping some thoughts here…
Some want to make everything about persona, painting all others who differ in their viewpoints in a negative light. Tearing down personas, after all, is ever so much easier than having a civil discourse about policy.
Some want to make everything about attacking the personas of others, but only end up destroying the credibility of their own persona; mischaracterizing and lying to the point where absolutely nothing they say is taken seriously anymore. Examples would be personas like Adam Schiff, Andrew Cuomo and Johnny Neptune. That most of the poser facade-worshipers in Hollywood and lamestream media would take that same tack does not surprise me.
Some want to make everything about politics, and they're not even very politic about it! That some would seek to sow division and hatred, even using violent mobs of conformity-enforcers to gain the power to control others does not surprise me. Neither does the fact that there are very few who focus on practicing self-control, but MANY who would seek to enact overt enforced control on others.
History is replete with examples of revolution in thought and deed, changes in the societal current of the time; yet history repeats itself in so many ways… ways in which we may learn… or not…
Oftentimes, however, taking the stance of being anti-anything is a sure-fire way of becoming the very thing which we hate, so it may behoove us to delve deeper into the pages of history now and then. I'm reading about the anti-Jacobin sentiment of the 1790s right now and am finding some of the material quite pertinent to us today, soFAIR WARNING:

They argued that only a strong government could control human's natural passions and protect the American people from the excessive liberty that corrupted the French Revolution. Cleves contends that a fear and abhorrence of violence was at the heart of Federalist thought. What emerged from these concerns, Cleves argues, was a radical anti-Jacobin ideology that "violently transformed American political culture" (p. 57).

The call of Federalists for a stable civil society and a state capable of regulating these baser natures was a genuine reaction to their fear that liberty, unchecked, unleashed violence and robbed individuals of their freedom.

According to Edward Edinger, we are in the midst of a monumental cultural change that will end the world as we know it. This is the result of the increasingly powerful force of our collective unconscious, the Apocalypse archetype. This archetype manifests itself through various signs: the drama of international relations, the breakdown of social structure, and the widening gap between political, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic groups, in science fiction and New Age books, TV, and movies. The public's preoccupation with natural disasters and the rise of religious cults and survivalist sects are other indicators. In ten chapters Edinger analyzes the Book of Revelation from this Jungian perspective. Case histories include David Koresh and the Heaven's Gate cult.

As a tool for textual criticism, Jungian analysis often reveals as much or more about Jungian analysis than about the text. Edinger's study of John's Apocalypse is no exception. Readers will learn a great deal about the Jungian concept of archetypes and their impact on individuation; they will learn less about the biblical book. Edinger was a founder of the C.G. Jung Institute of New York. This book grew out of a series of 10 lectures he delivered at the C.G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles, beginning in 1995. Though edited and revised for publication, they retain some of the fragmentary and episodic character of popular lectures. The book is divided into chapters that follow the sequence of John's narrative. Edinger brings the narrative into dialogue with dream images gleaned from his own experience as an analyst and from reports of other psychiatrists. Most interesting are Edinger's extensive commentary on Jung's Answer to Job and his brief discussion of two contemporary cases of "possession" by the "apocalypse archetype"ADavid Koresh and the leaders of Heaven's Gate. The new study, the largest ever of its kind, was carried out by the V-Dem Institute at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, using newly developed methods to measure and quantify the health of the world’s democracies at a time when authoritarianism is on the rise.
Anna Lührmann, V-Dem’s deputy director, said the Republican transformation had been “certainly the most dramatic shift in an established democracy”.
V-Dem’s “illiberalism index” gauges the extent of commitment to democratic norms a party exhibits before an election. The institute calls it “the first comparative measure of the ‘litmus test’ for the loyalty to democracy”.
The study, published on Monday, shows the party has followed a similar trajectory to Fidesz, which under Viktor Orbán has evolved from a liberal youth movement into an authoritarian party that has made Hungary the first non-democracy in the European Union.
India’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been transformed in similar ways under Narendra Modi, as has the Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Turkey under Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Law and Justice party in Poland. Trump and his administration have sought to cultivate close ties to the leadership of those countries.
