Why doesn't Sega just replace/change the cyan emerald into an orange one like they did in Sonic R? Wouldn't it make more sense to do it that way since it would represent the color wheel better?

nice jackpot
well I'm pretty sure it's because they are based on the light color wheel, not the pigment color wheel
blue is opposite of yellow, magenta is opposite of green, red is opposite of cyan, gray is neutral. if you take those colors and put them in like ms paint or whatever and hit invert colors, it will just look like the emeralds have swapped location.

OP here. Now that I have looked up the light color wheel, that makes sense. Though if you ask me, I prefer the pigment color wheel over the light color wheel for some reason I don't know.
I figured one of the reasons why they wouldn't do that was because of how autistic the sonic fanbase can be about any form of change, whether it be major or minor in nature. I mean, look at Chris Chan, he freaked the fuck out over Sonic having blue arms in the Sonic Boom continuity. I'm not sure how he or others of his similar ilk would be able to handle a change of colors in one of the chaos emeralds.

if they're called the Chaos Emeralds (specifically targeting the world emerald here), then why aren't they all green?

woahhhh hold up
the GameHut bro on YouTube was a guy who had a huge hand in Sonic R, we could totally find out why he even bothered to change the emerald in the first place. seems like such a weird thing to change
