Like I said, the only boards that got nuked were the ones made specifically for posting pictures of children. You are blowing things way out of proportion. had a thought before getting out of bed (as you do), have you tried underclocking your cpu? like first make sure anything edgy performancewise is off in the bios (some boards have a mild automatic 'turbo' of a small bit) that could expose a marginal part. then try forcing a lower clock (but keep the voltage the same or raise 0.1). this will fuck with the power management but will let you know if it's that

the whole freeze thing makes me think towards power and CP u. it could be bad memory timing but a modern board that is really unlikely to autodetect the wrong settings and it's more likely the memtest would come back with errors rather than freeze up stuff

as long as you have a way to crash it consistently you can figure it out eventually
