Purely to make noise:
>V10 engine >2.0L >17000rpm >exhaust must not be obstructed Then to keep the environmentalists and technological advancement people happy, let them have:
>unlimited energy harvesting and use >KERS >electrically driven superchargers The KERS would make them tourqey as hell down low, the supercharger would give the big HP, and the V10 with a free exhaust would make them sound awesome.

>>2650 I question how dangerous formula 1 cars were before 1994. The last driver death before then was elio de angelis in 1985. But he didnt die from a crash, he died after burning to death at a private test session because the Marshalls didnt have extinguishers or fire proof clothing. Before that Ricardo paletti, who wasn't ready for formula1 but his sponsors pushed him. His car stalled on the grid and he got hit from behind. Ronnie Peterson died because the Marshalls waved the green flag before he was in gear.
Even senna and ratzenberger died because of issues inherent to their cars and the sudden banning of driver aids at the start of the 1994 season (when the cars had been designed around them).

The point remains that car safety really was not that terrible before 1994. Whether Senna died from suspension failure, poor decision making, a broken steering column, or whatever, the point remains that the monocoque was intact. It was probably the shitty splice that williams did with the steering column as he had requested that the wheel be relocated.
Ratzenberger had been driving a damaged car, and the stability was not helped by being a chassis previously designed for driver aids.

Poorly installed barricades like what killed Francois Cevert were dealt with afterwards. The 1977 german grand prix was held at hockenheim because the nurburgring organizers had voided their contract to hold the races which required safety improvements.

>Croft literally complains and bitches when races are boring
I've heard Croft complain during great races because of the absolute smallest shit or because Hamilton wasn't winning.
Last year at Singapore during practise Rosberg crossed the pit entry line because he backed out of coming into the pits. He was like the only car on track.
Croft exploded and started going on about penalties and starting from the fucking pitlane. Bruno Senna just went "Well I don't think the stewards will mind to be honest it was pretty safe and it's only FP1"
20 minutes later Bruno is discussion something with Ted and Croft interrupts them both to show them a replay of Rosberg's heinous crime and why he should be banned for life.
Stewards didn't even bother investigating it.

It's a lot like the shit-tier commentary we have in local Aust series.
It reminds me of some advice I heard once about making a YouTube video (not that I make them), in that if you first word is "Um", you've failed as a video maker.
And if you're reaction to an incident as a motorsport commentator is to "ohhh" or "ahhh", instead of actually communicating what's happening with words, then you've failed as a commentator.

It just sounded a bit like he was implying. Blame my 2am autism.
I just re-checked and in fact it was Mercedes Benz themselves who started developing an airbag system for F1 cars.
They joined a meeting between Charlie Whiting and Hubbard Downing Inc (the company who made HANS) and started a partnership to make a HANS device small enough to fit in an F1 car.
They got an old crash tested HANS device from Hubbard and tested it against their air bag and it proved to be as good and so they abandoned the air bag in 1998.

An F1 HANS system doesn't stop side to side movement but instead they just have the polystyrene insert around their neck.
They didn't bother trying to make side to side support as they knew they could redesign an F1 cockpit and put in the polystyrene padding to minimise it and so focused on forward motion.
I imagine they would have done similar here but still it is mad.

Grr. The super high sidepods and toilet seat-esque inserts make low profile cars impossible and it looks like crap… What a shame.

Vettel really does have excellent throttle control.
Watch the throttle %, and listen to the engine.
By the time you can hear the revs quickly increase when it wheelspins, he's already backed off.
>his throttle control is why he raped Webber in the blown diffuser car

I'll point out that Merhi is the idiot who slowed down to a crawl, not the idiot who didn't notice a slow moving car.

It's actually quite easy to hit a slowing car like that through a combo of misjudging how slow it is going/fast you are going & mentally focusing further up the road than what it is immediately in front of you.

yes, why would you even slow down like that on the finish line, if you want to let someone get past you you could've done that over the whole last lap

Here's the thing, if you watch Nicholas Latifi, he was racing for 5th place and didn't want to lose his position. He can't block the other driver or push him off as per rules, so he ends up crashing into Merhi. He had to pay attention to Tom Dillmann as well who he was racing. This just shows Merhi was being a fucking moron and he doesn't deserve the Manor seat.
Especially since he pulled that "dindunuffin" shit later.
