I was reading a cleveland newspaper which discussed a return of the grand prix of cleveland. I never comment on articles but i wanted to throw a shit fit about how the article drew little to no distinction between cart and irl. Fortunately, a keyboard warrior beat me to it:

That's equivalent 20,000 $75 tickets!

>Of course sponsors (title sponsor, track signage, event program etc) will bring in revenue for the promoter but most if not all of that is quickly gobbled up by track and grandstand construction/tear down costs, marketing, insurance and so on. There's a good reason why there's a very long list of former IndyCar host cities/tracks.

>3) You should know that Toronto, which like Cleveland used to host a very popular annual CART event, just hosted its 30th "Indy" (or GP). In CART/Champ Car days, used to attract around 70,000 on race day but attendance has been nothing like that since IndyCar took over in 2009.

>They've had to repeatedly shrink the grandstand capacity so that they appear "packed", or close to it (almost 4,000 seats have been removed since 2012).
