This is what I hate about motorsport rules/regulations. It seems whenever a stupid rule is implemented, it only serves to create more problems. Governing bodies respond not by removing said stupid rule, rather by adding MORE stupid rules in an attempt to undo the other one.
Tony George made cars spec, increased pack racing, and fostered a racing dynamic that servers only to create problems like these. Now fucking retards are trying to create close cockpits instead of opening up the fucking formula.

Why not open the formula and have closed cockpits at the same time?

Because unless you made two separate sets of rules (a handicap) for open and closed cars, every team would go with a closed car due to the huge aero advantage.

Oh my bad Finland, I thought you meant to allow them a choice of closed or open cockpits by opening the rules.

I'd incorporate some rules regarding windscreens or closed cockpits just to make all these foreign object accidents far less lethal.

I don't like close cockpits firstly because its a knee jerk reaction to bianchi's death. "Hurr durr Bianchi was in an open cock pit and got hit, so dat means that a closed one wuld stop dat." There is no data to suggest that a closed cockpit would alter the situation. In fact, I believe many reports suggest that a closed cockpit wouldn't have helped. Also, think about all the issues that one would add on: More potential safety issues, more costs, less vision.
But perhaps more importantly, It will hurt the identity of the sport. Formula one was always an 'open cockpit' four external wheels sport. To change the dna of the sport like this would be radical step away from what it was supposed to be and had always been.

I'd recommend having Indycar as the environment to test this shit out, if only because of how utterly desperate it's position is AND because this series would benefit from being able to deviate itself from F1 better.

It's kind of odd for all of indycar's obsessions with safety, wheel protectors and whatnot shit like this still happens.

At this point it's inevitable (at least in IndyCar)
May as well let IndyCar develop it.
I mean if it can withstand their madness it can probably take on Pastor
