https://www.formula1.com/content/fom-website/en/latest/headlines/2015/7/perez-surprised-by-lotus-struggles.html

>Sergio Perez believes Lotus are a major threat to Force India's bid for fifth in the constructors' championship, even though he has been taken aback by their difficulties in converting promise into points in 2015.

>Perez says Force India's own calculations have pointed towards Lotus's E23 Hybrid having an outright performance edge on their VJM08 - at least before the wide-ranging upgrades his team introduced at Silverstone.

>"I am surprised, because when we see all the simulations they seem to be half a second a lap quicker than us - but for some reason, some reliability issues, they haven't been able to exploit their full potential," commented the Mexican.

Rons delusions are getting worse too.

They are definitely below Ferrari and RedBull chassis wise. It's very close between the Horse and Bull but I'd slightly give it to Redbull.

There is no way of saying how good that chassis and aero is until you push it to the max which they are definitely not doing. Even the Force India could look like a world beater if they too had a gimped engine.

They are going to keep banging on about all year I'm afraid.

Anyways I thought the entire start system was built around automatic clutch bite point finds? The steering wheels aren't set up for one clutch lever with lots of travel so I guess the drivers have to hope that the bite point is set correctly in the garage…

The funniest thing about that, is back when they banned launch and traction control, Webber did an interview with Australian TV and said "anything that puts the control of the car back in the drivers hands is a good thing".

Not for you though Mark…

If they had have kept driver aids, then Webber might have actually won more races in his entire career than his teammate won in a row.

http://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2015/jul/09/bernie-ecclestone-f1-?utm_content=buffera903d&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

Bernie Ecclestone still a force to be reckoned with in F1’s engine room

>The 1.6-litre V6 hybrid power units introduced last year have never really been to Ecclestone’s liking. They have always been too quiet for him, for one thing. “If I had a clean sheet piece of paper the first thing I would do is make an engine that is not as complicated as the current one is,” he told me. “We need another Cosworth to supply teams.” Cosworth, funded by Ford, powered F1 cars to 176 victories – making it second only to Ferrari – between 1963 and 2003 and as recently as 2010 supplied four teams, Williams, Lotus, HRT and Virgin.

>“If we had a simpler engine it would allow other people who wanted to make engines to come in. Look at Toyota, who I know – maybe – would be interested in coming back into Formula One. But no way would they come back with this power unit. They know that they would be in trouble before they start. If Ferrari are in trouble what chance have they got?”

>The Mercedes power unit has dominated F1 this season as it did in 2014. But Ecclestone has misgivings. “Mercedes have got a super team, a super engine which is an incredible piece of engineering. But if you and I and go the grandstand and ask a spectator ‘How many cylinders has that engine got?’ one or two might get it right. And then you ask them what capacity it is. They don’t know, and they don’t care. They couldn’t care less.

>“They want to see Williams winning, Ferrari winning, Red Bull winning – they want everybody to have a chance of winning. At the moment people like Vijay [Mallya] at Force India spend an awful lot of money and have got zero chance of winning. And it’s not on. Let’s tear the bloody rule book up and start again.”

Bernie confirmed for F1 redpill. MAKE IT HAPPEN OLD MAN!

Hang on they are making a Formula e-license

>The WMSC approved the establishing of an FIA e-Licence, which will be mandatory for any Driver wanting to compete in the FIA Formula E Championship.

>In order to qualify for the e-Licence, the following is required:

>-A specific FIA training session on the most important points of electrical safety, technical and sporting aspects of the competition

>-To have accumulated in the previous three years at least 20 points of the FIA points system used to qualify for the F1 Super Licence, or to have previously held an F1 Super Licence, or to have participated in at least three races of the previous FIA Formula E Championship.

I think it can throw a lifeline to drivers who have been ousted ala JEV or give a guy who might be finding it slightly difficult to get into f1 after the junior series like Palmer, Lynn, It can be like a driver training place where they can learn about efficiency which is a very valuable transferable skill.

That is immensely retarded. People are going to go to formula e now for the sole purpose for getting to f1. Formula e will still be garbage that races on square tracks with has beens and never was'. That they've weighted formula 4 (which is even more a joke than formula 3) the same as wec is appalling. Meanwhile super formula which actually takes driving skill and technical ability (engine development is allowed) is near worthless.

Also unacceptable is that it only pays out for winners of these series. They mean to tell us that you have to win super formula AND indycar to gain the same credentials as trundling around in formula e?!

I hope that they keep making exceptions to the point where this is no longer observed, because other than the 18 year old rule (which is good because it keeps out assholes like verstappen) this is a shitty development.

>How the fuck is v8 supercars a dying series?

It is actually, thanks to most of the races moving to pay TV.

>typical neo-capitalist fucks took over running it, and are more concerned with short term figures to make them look good, then long term gains which are good for the business

Pay TV isn't as common in Australia as other countries (traditionally expensive as fuck due to a one company monopoly), and the ratings have been dire.

One of the races got 63,000 viewers on pay TV, compared to over 500,000 it would have got on free TV.

http://www.smh.com.au/sport/motorsport/early-v8-ratings-suggest-supercars-tv-strategy-misfiring-20150509-ggxbkm.html

Even in my own experience, friends and associates who used to talk about the V8 series, just don't anymore.

It will be interesting to see how it pans out later in the year, as the majority of free TV races are later in the season.
