I'm not an expert on the film industry but i assume that becoming successful in it is akin to winning the lottery, even if you're working your ass off. I remember him saying that he hates doing abridged series and that it doesn't even help him develop new skills. He's just in it for the money. He even made a tweet like "Jay Z sold drugs, I make dubs"
If making YouTube abridged series was really ONLY about the money and not because he enjoyed them then the smart thing to do would be to just turn his channel into a tech/tutorial channel.
His How to Be a Voice Actor and Intro to DSLR Video (anyone know why he deleted it? Anyone have a mirror?) were really good and reached a lot of people outside of his normal audience. Tech channels tend to do way better than abridged series channels, plus his editing style sets him apart from everyone else. So he'd be getting more money from YouTube and attract more patrons. Plus he could get sponsorships from tech companies to do videos on their products. And he could put affiliate links in all his videos so if he does a video on a camera and someone decides to buy it he'll get a cut of the sale. And he can even get free gear from companies so he'll be able to fill out a library of equipment that he can use for his filmmaking that otherwise would've cost him tens of thousands of dollars.

It's a decent crash course on the subject, which should be enough to elevate the quality your typical YouTuber can output up a level or two.
