I've seen what NISa did to Ys VIII, and I'd be surprised if they didn't get blacklisted for it. There's an article on siliconera detailing that their localization department had to be completely restructured read: fired after Falcom demanded they redo the game for free. It was, fighting games were a place where skill could be showcased. Given the 1v1 nature of them the metagame was always evolving and you'd have upsets and drama all of the time. You couldn't replicate IRL matches online due to the lag so you'd see how the meta had developed in different areas over the course of a year when those players would go to events. Japan always brought their A-game, NA had multiple scenes (NY, LA, the South), Mexico/SA had a thriving KoF scene as did China, Korea had a great Tekken scene. This all made it interesting to watch and if you played you'd always be learning new stuff to apply to your own game/locals. This is why events like Evo produced so much hype.

SFV's release really marks the downfall. That's when the metagame started to get dumbed down for normalfags and the other popular games followed the trend in an attempt to find new players. Even the anime games have started to become censored and toned down to appeal to a larger audience. You can't have lolis, big tits, wacky JoJo characters or all those other things that made the games fun and unique. Everything they'd built up since the early 90s was thrown out the window in an attempt to chase the CoD crowd.

Even Smash with all its autism had a community that was built up and run by people in the community. Sure, it has shit up the stage anywhere it was invited but at least it came from a place that was organic. You could at least respect them because they had a love for their game and community. They even embraced all the hate they got and attempted to prove they belonged. But now even they have dumbed their games down seeking a wider audience and have allowed outsiders to dictate how they run things.

A lot of us were doing things out of love and have now just given up. There were several people that weren't top players but were footing the bill for all the cabs/consoles/joysticks/venues/equipment required to record and stream the event. We've all be run out of the scene by the likes of Disney/ESPN and no one cares because we aren't needed anymore. All the major events have been taken over and pozzed and everyone running them cucked for the weed money. Aris played older Tekken games, but I don't know if he came from SC or Tekken. The only frame hogger I knew of was SC2Maxi, who was an absolute cunt on the SC2 forums. I also wanted to mention that VF is something people either love or hate. Out of all the 3D fighters it seems like the odd ball out. Some consider it the most realistic out of the bunch but I personally do not. Regardless the competitive community is smaller and seems tougher to break into than things like Tekken and Soul Caliber. Finally, that community has been waiting on a new game for years now with no relief in sight. Probably a good thing considering how badly sequels are treated these days but it's something to keep in mind.

For 3D games I suggest trying Soul Calibur because I just dig that 8-way run. It probably has the best movement of any 3D fighter I've played. Tekken isn't like that. It feels more like a 2D game thrown into a 3D play field. Fun in its own way of course but not what I think of when I think of 3D movement. You'll find all 3D games are like this with their own quirks. A lot of them are from the early days of 3D in the arcades where new things were being tried out and all stuck to what they did originally going forward.

No anon I'm always down to train someone and teach them what I know no matter what the game. I was the best KoF player locally but most of the time my friends didn't care to play it. I had one guy that would constantly challenge me to sets every week which was fun because otherwise I never got to play it.

My issue with training people is pride. If they can't spam the same move and win they don't want to play at all. Kinda why I stopped playing regularly. I hate having to drive an hour or more to get a decent match with someone locally.

My former roommate was someone I'd put a lot of time into. I got him good at SF and BB, even built him a custom arcade stick so he could learn with the proper equipment. Cost me $300 to build that for him. Gave him the best parts I had laying around. I'd just spent $2k on parts so I could build everyone sticks right before we had the falling out. VF4Evo has an extensive tutorial for each mechanic and each character and a mode which is as close as it can be to playing real people, so it is a pretty good starting point. However, it is also by far the hardest VF to play.

VF5FS on the other hand streamlined and simplified a lot of things, usually for the better because the same base formula of relying a lot on mind games and clean mechanics without any bullshit, making it perfect to learn for newbies. However, it's a budget digital title so there aren't any singleplayer modes and the online is usually dead unless you know at what times certain people stream, or you have friends willing to learn with you.

Drug use in the FGC is rampant. People always joke about weed money but I'm certain most everyone in the FGC is addicted to something. I saw a lot of people using stims, opioids, benzos, and psychedelics at the events I attended over the years. I was an addict of various substances for a long time and quitting was really hard. I eventually realized that I could no longer hang around people using if I wanted to stay sober. Once people hear you've quit it's like they're playing a game to see who can get you to use again. I was the connect for most of my peer group because I had connections for a lot of rare substances. Even with the darknet markets people seem to have a hard time sourcing certain things. Was never a problem for me because I knew so many folks that followed around festivals selling LSD and MDMA. I usually didn't bother with those because most of those guys were sitting on stashes of exotic research chemicals that were more fun.

Strange thing is one of the few friends I kept from my using days is one of those people. He never pushes drugs on me and him and I mostly hang out together sober. I've even trip sat many of his clients in the last few months. I have a knack for talking people down for some reason and they all say I'm a "kind soul" (whatever that means). I do plan to use psychedelics again at some point, ibogaine specifically because it's supposed to be good for quitting opioids and staying off of them. I'm committed to being sober for another two years before I even consider taking it though.
