The guy had tons of ideas for Wolf3D, Doom and Quake, many of which were scrapped because other at iD told him it was a bad idea (truth be told, they were bad ideas). Nintendo didn't do well in Europe as it did in the US. The SNES was known for Mario Kart, Mario World and Street fighter 2. Those were the core games people cared about. No one gave a fuck about Zelda, Metroid or Megaman here. Sonic and Mario were the only vidya mascots that stood out and Sonic edged out Mario due to the popularity of the Master system and then Mega Drive. It wasn't until the SNES that Nintendo started to compete with Sega in the European market. The gameboy was the Nintendo foot hold in Europe and most people didn't buy Metroid 2 and Link to the past was a niche title for nerds. Megaman is a chump in popularity compared to Megaman X. Hell Bomberman is bigger than Megaman here during that era.

There are exceptions like Silent Hill and Resident Evil but that was Inafune's influence. He wanted the international market and pushed Capcom into making games for it. For a…well apparently short, period of time, it was justified. I will never regret my purchase of the xbox 360 in 2008. I sold it years ago, but between 05 and 2010, there a fuckload of excellent games that came out on consoles. A fuckload. I had the xbox and xbox 360, and regretted neither of them. And for me, it wasnt, later, the difficulty of installation, it was doing it at al for pc. This is then cleaned up by an artist who makes it usable in game. And everything possible is mo capped rather than animated.

There's no where else to go because every game is going for realism and realism is already achieved in any ways that matter.
