>While Jefferson, Conner and Artemis find homes for their Markovian strays, Dick assembles a new squad and hits the road – but may not survive the trip. A distant conflict sends the team on an away mission, while the Happy Harbor gang decides what to do with Brion Markov and Halo. From what I remember, it got worse in the 2nd season, even though I didn't think the 1st season was good either. It tries to be this intellectual build up of mystery and conspiracies but it comes off as very contrived at even how failures are "just as planned". Then it had that big cliffhanger ending until after all this time, it will finally get a 3rd season and maybe a "conclusion". I not sure how people wanted this to have another season when they could have whined more to get an ending to Teen Titans.

>Robin is a bro though.
That is kind of the beginning and end of it. Dick gets shafted in so many mediums, that one that doesn't quite do that gets promoted beyond its worth. Just watched episode 4 of the new show, and when they aren't dealing with the new and approved hijab. arabic Halo, it wasn't that bad. It was literally Harper (Red Arrow), Harper (Arsenal), Harper (Guardian), and Dick in civies as rent-a-cops in a monster of the week episode. So no bullshit with "the light", or the reach, just a taking out a budget Luke Cage who is trying to steal a shipment of electronics.
>Does it get better? Did I miss anything?
S1 is still its best, including its super deep plot twists. S2 was worse on all fronts, and Mia Khalifa there as a stand in for the immigration debate in places like Hungary about shows what to expect from this season.

>Dick then decides to show everyone highly upsetting video where traitorous uncle denounces lavaboy prince
>predictably, everything goes to shit afterwards
I thought Dick was supposed to be the professional one on the team. Isn't that the standout feature of Batman's brood?
Gone are the days of S1 where the heroes came up with smart plans and executed them well. Now everyone just acts like a fucktard and thinks sending a traumatized nog that can't even use his superpowers into action is a good idea.
Also, whoever came up with the opening skits featuring Beastboy should be forced to watch his family get boiled alive.

They had the Forever People in a side episode. Problem is, I don't remember their appearance at all. So by watching young justice before reading Kirby's DC stuff, I didn't think twice about their designs or choices they made. It was also before I started asking why they went with a new Aqualad, or for a more current example, Halo, for the show.

Like the completely moronic and over the top muh raycism at the end of episode 6? The writing for this shitshow is all over the place. Everyone keeps acting stupid for heightened drama, the creators don't want to show a spec of blood but seeing a woman's face be melted off and her neck snapped is a-ok apparently.

I still have no idea why she's so hung up about not using her real name. The really sad thing is that they're trying to do the whole "is she a mole?" shtick again, only I have to wonder what the point of implanting her with a bunch of information was since they sent her on a suicide mission.

Episode 7 makes the entire motive of the Light seem petty. It spells out things we didn't need to know about Vandal Savage and turns his entire 50,000-year life into the A-plot of a three-plot episode. It has a distinct lack of the Justice League despite being an episode where aliens attack Earth. And amid all that, it still finds time to humiliate and belittle Nightwing.
I can't give this the benefit of the doubt anymore. Season 2 had an excuse for its problems, but it wasn't half as bad as this. This isn't just incompetence. They're actively destroying the basis of the show.

Surprised M'gann is still around after her mind raping people. Khary Payton voicing almost every black guy is getting very noticeable. Not that he's bad but you need some other people to give some variety. Was Phil Lamarr not available? It seems like they're going to do Judas Contract later on. >S1 was pretty good
YJ was never good. It's like somebody turned TvTropes into a cartoon. My favorite thing is how they killed Jason Todd during the time skip, without even introducing him, then go on to reference it like they expect that to mean anything to anybody. That kind of shit probably doesn't even phase /co/ but it's awful storytelling and it's the way they've handled all the writing since the beginning – hastily dumped exposition and pointlessly convoluted, badly-paced plots that are incidentally also fucking stupid. If there's a webm compilation of Halo's deaths floating around, that automatically makes the revival more worthwhile than the original run.

Despite it's faults, this revival really proves a lot of things. Like that a consistent creative team working on a story that actually progresses while slowly building up a universe is better than having too many cooks in the kitchen that just wanna one up everyone before them. Or even try to fuck each other up. What I'm saying is… I like this show more than anything we've gotten through the movies or the comics. For a long long time.
Now if only it didn't have to ruin Beast Boy with a new voice or reference TTGO.
I do strangely like all the nods to more recent DC characters like Damian, Jon, but less so Harper Rowe.

Are you fucking kidding me?
Everything past season 1 has been a total clusterfuck and even the tail end of season 1 was pushing it. If by "building up the universe" you mean stuffing as many characters in the show as possible while developing none of them then I agree wholeheartedly. Between that, the time-skips, villain plans always working out asspulls, and increasing political bullshit this show has be a downhill mess since the start of season 2.
If the show had focused entirely on the team from S1 (get rid of rocket, she doesn't need to be there and the cast was already bloated by that point) while interweaving the Lights plan with the young heroes coming of age story this whole thing would have gone a lot better. As it stands now it's really hard to give a shit about the team when it changes every dozen episodes; Tragedy and high stakes don't mean much when you don't give a shit about the main cast.
I hate to use this as an example but ATLA did it right, by the third season you had seen the main cast (especially Zuko) go through trials and tribulations which grew them as characters; the story was as much about them as it was the great threat they had to face, the characters moved the plot as much as the world moved the characters. That just isn't there for young justice past season one, the main cast are pieces on a board that are moved and removed with little regard for their development, the majority of the cast in YJ are more like stage props than a cast.

Our world has acast of several billion. No one uses all of them in a story. No one should try to use all of them in a story. You don't have to, in order to tell a good story.
But if you really want to, focus on one new character per episode and forget about them, at least for a good long while.

We're not fantastical cape heroes & villains. We're just people. Using that sort of argument makes no sense.
They've already done plenty to flesh out the important characters like Nightwing, Superboy, Impulse, Beast Boy, Miss Martian, Aqualad/man, & Blue Beetle. The Team itself isn't even the focus this season. It's literally called Outsiders because the focus is on those outside of The League & The Team.

not the guy you are replying to but,
>We're not fantastical cape heroes & villains. We're just people. Using that sort of argument makes no sense.
It does when there are an exceedingly high number of them and growing by the episode. The fact that the entirety of the JL is used as nothing more than a plot device (if even that) shows how little most of super beings matter in the universe. YJ is overflowing with super-powered beings to the point that most of them are being used as plot devices in bulk, and I mean that literally as that's the whole "plot" of S3.
>They've already done plenty to flesh out the important characters like Nightwing, Superboy, Impulse, Beast Boy, Miss Martian, Aqualad/man, & Blue Beetle.
Bullshit, character development isn't something you do in a previous season and then forget about it later on when it comes to the main cast, it's a constant process and an integral part of the story. Also what kind of on screen development have we seen from the OG cast since S1? Just as an example all of Superboys maturation and interactions with Superman are all stated or implied when never see it happen, we are just told it happens; How about Robins transition to Nightwing, how did that happen?
>The Team itself isn't even the focus this season. It's literally called Outsiders because the focus is on those outside of The League & The Team.
which is exactly the problem!

You are dodging and you know it, I used the JL to prove that you are wrong about the bloated cast not being a problem. You said it yourself " It's called 'Young Justice' not 'Justice League " which is why they should be focusing on the original cast throughout the series instead of having a constantly changing bloated roster that are gone before the audience ever gets a chance to get attached to them.
>You know enough to know there's growth happening. But yes it is breaking the cardinal sin of 'show don't tell'.
it's shit writing and removes all investment by the audience. It's one thing to see a character go through an ordeal or have a life changing experience and another to just be told it happened in an offhand bit of dialog or even for it to just be implied. Also, no I don't know enough, that's the problem! Go through the list of all the hero's on the team and tell me how they came to be part of the team? or how their origins stories play out? In S1 we see exactly how the team formed and where each character is from but contrast that with S2, what is Wonder Girls origin in this universe, how about Tim Drakes? So many members of the team were just put there all the while the OG cast got ignored, the result was that no one really got to shine.
>HOW?!
Because the show is called Young Justice! And the constant changing of the roster makes caring about what happens to the characters and the world difficult.
Pic related should have been the main cast for all three seasons and not a single character more, otherwise there just isn't enough screen time for development and progressing the plot.

That's nothing to do with the Justice League not being the focus.
I'll give you that it is a genuine problem that so much happens off screen & the average watcher isn't even gonna know any of these new characters. Even most former comic readers probably won't know a number of them either.
Superboy, Dick, Miss Martian, & Artemis have featured in all 3 seasons as important characters that develop through each season. Aqualad is the only one who misses out on the focus because he's taken Aquaman's place on the Justice League. Meaning he has no reason to show up with the younger team or the outside vigilante splinter group.

you are either dodging or dense, I can't tell. The point was:
<Our world has a cast of several billion. No one uses all of them in a story. No one should try to use all of them in a story. You don't have to, in order to tell a good story.
your response was:
>We're not fantastical cape heroes & villains. We're just people. Using that sort of argument makes no sense.
and I said this was wrong by saying:
<It does when there are an exceedingly high number of them and growing by the episode.
The point was that super powered beings aren't rare in the YJ universe to the point that they are common enough narrative wise that including so many is a detriment to the story and writing. I used both the JL and the meta trafficking as examples of how super beings are so common and you twisted that in to me saying that the JL should be the focus. Your logic doesn't follow.
>I'll give you that it is a genuine problem that so much happens off screen & the average watcher isn't even gonna know any of these new characters.
thank you. Also, like I said it's not just about what happens off-screen but on screen, the large roster is a detriment since the more time is spread over the characters the less each get this is on top of needing to move the plot along which inevitable results characters just being used as props rather than something that drives the story.

Your logic doesn't follow of making ordinary people sound the same as superheroes in a comic book setting. Even with the surge of meta-humans they don't get any focus. The show has it's groups it focuses on while there's groups in the background doing other things. You only get glimpses of those things so you have a sense of a bigger world outside of the small events you see. If you didn't have that information of a wider world out there, the bits the show does focus on would feel too small & compacted.

I think you're generally right, but The Wire for example had a very large cast, and managed it well enough. Just saying it's possible to balance a cast as large as The Team (what a terrible name) + Justice League + Outsiders + villains. Each season of either series is roughly similar in length, but maybe the hour-long episode format of the Wire helps.
>>1065098
Yes, it focuses on a subset of metahumans. But that subset apparently is still too large for these particular writers to handle and develop proper, IMO.
