Didnt see anything in catalog. Let's have a comic creator resource thread. Writers, artist, inker, letterer, colorist, or any questions pertaining to creating and publishing your work.
Publishers
Marvel - https://www.marvel.com/help/category/17/topic/30 - does not accept portfolios anymore. You need to know someone to get hired now.
DC - https://www.dccomicstalentworkshop.com/artists-workshop/how-to-apply/ - they have a workshop set of courses every year (or have been lately) that you can submit work and portfolios towards admission. This can lead to work and showcases, like the New Talent Showcase 2018 issue ( https://www.dccomics.com/comics/new-talent-showcase-2016/new-talent-showcase-2018-1 ).
Image Comics - https://imagecomics.com/submissions - Accepts Artists: We accept inking, pencilling, lettering, or coloring samples. Writers: We accept proposals only. Clique group. Without a name, youll find trouble getting support from Image. Knowing someone is best way to get there and having previous work or status (novels, film, etc). Not the 'indy haven' it used to be.
https://jasonthibault.com/definitive-list-comic-publisher-submission-guidelines/ - this is a longer list of publisher and guidelines updated for 2018 standards.
Crowd funding is a great way to get funds, but also entirely name based and getting info out there. Need twitter and other media. Youtube channel is very good if artist for basic livestream drawing sessions or critiques, helping improve art of followers, etc. Jim Lee has a good channel for this. Ethan van Sciver used to do insider talks on his work with Marvel (New X-Men with Morrison, his Johns Rebirth stuff) and how to draw various characters. Mostly shittalks SJWs now though. Archives good source for building audience though. Can use the money in conjunction with some smaller publishers too.
I'll post some resources for general comic creation in follow up posts.

I don't know if this helps but I remember watching some behind the scenes thing of BTAS and they mentioned they started with black paper and started to draw and color over it giving it that dark gloomy look. Don't know if that will help your look.

I think it will. It will certainly match the tone and feel I am going for. The vast majority of the action takes place at night, or in total darkness (the deep sea, the city underground, &c.).
Back in the day I had this 3D storybook, and even without the 3D glasses, the artwork looks amazing, and almost pops from the page against the completely black backgrounds. I think that look could be used in a comic as well, even without the 3D glasses. Hardly any text, just these gorgeous full splash pages.
Probably not gonna be easy to find anyone crazy enough to want to do the art though.

Frank Miller did a lot of Sin City by coating a page with ink then scraping it away with a scalpel, or drawing in white paint.
I don't know if he copied the technique from Alex Toth or Jose Munoz or another old-timer, but he got some amazing results with it before he went Full Retard and started drawing with the pen in his ass, Sex And Zen style.
Apart from the asshole kids at Image who kept aping his style, even Yukito Kishiro brought out a series using Miller's techniques of flat black and white planes. After ending his career in shame, it's easy to forget that Miller changed the game three times, afaik no other artist has done that, short of The Beatles.

Basically a calligraphy pen. I use zebra gpen and tachikawa nib holder, winsor and newton #2 kolinsky sable brush and quart of speedball, a pentel portable brush pen I refill cartridges with 18G blunt tip syringes (can get them on amazon in bulk for next to nothing and use speedball or other india ink to fill them instead of buying ridiculously overpriced refill cartridges) and staedtler finer liners/sakura pigmas (i like sakura more, but started with staedtlers and have some left over). im still new to inking though, so there's probalby more tools to use. Seems he did his detail with the calligraphy brush similar g-pens popular in manga and let his wife do the standard #2 for blacks.
I learned from jim lee videos to use a simple tissue and spread ink for blotting/cloud/dry brush-like effects and can do easy splatter effects with an old credit card dipped in ink and flicked at paper for little more control than just splashing randomly. same with using simple jumbo pentel correction pen (white out basically with a fine tip) to go in over it after and touch up, etc.

here's old Wizard Magazine artist corner/comic creating tips collected in a pdf.
my DOT mixtape DOT moe SLASH asdvic DOT pdf
Not sure what links are allowed, so sorry its got the DOT and SLASH in there. Can be found on torrent sites as Wizard - How To Draw - The Best of Basic Training (2005-2007) or variations of that. It's pretty big file. Some images from it are attached for examples.
The pdf is about 250 pages and covers drawing, perspective, composition, cover design, script writing, inking and more. Joe Kubert, Mark Bagley, Terry Dodson, George Perez, Phil Jimenez, Walt Simonson, and more are involved in the various sections. I like the script writing part because they have the commentary from the writer and artist and they talk about how they approach it and you are given sections of scripts to redraw without going and looking up the actual issues. Bendis and Bagley's USM, Kirkman and Ottley's Invincible, and few others are featured for these. Unique behind the scenes stuff and good practice.

Thanks, these are all good resources. Currently I am working my way through Fear and Loathing in Last Vegas book and comic and comparing them and the film, so see what works, what doesn't, and what else could be poached from the film and book and repurposed to work in the comic.
As far as resources go, I stumbled upon a page with comic book scripts from various creators. Good thing is that it has both good and bad scripts, so you can see what work and what does not.

My take on it is that you need to lead somebodies expectations in one direction but at the right moment you have to shatter those expectations in a comedic way. You have to let people think they know what’s going to happen but quickly do something to surprise them then make them laugh not only at themselves and their expectations, but also how rediculous the thing in front of them is.

Art of The Matrix is a pretty good book to look through to get some ideas for action sequences. It useful in that it gives you some insight into how to translate continuous action sequences into series of images and making them engaging instead just ending up with them looking like still shots from video footage. This is something that a lot of artists seem to have issues with, myself included.
Unfortunately, it does not contain entire matrix comic book that was made when concept was shown to the studios. What is there works pretty well as a comic, some of it even better than it did as a film.

Just getting into tablet art. This is as far as I got on my comic. The idea was to do a comic version of "I Remember Lemuria" which is a short story that's in the public domain now written by a schizophrenic just to do it, play around with sequential art, and to figure out how to do pseudo inking in either inkscape or illustrator. I've tried and failed many times to finish these pages.

They've (Sana Amanat) made it clear in the past that they don't accept talent but rather they pick & choose themselves who they wanna offer jobs to. So basically just rifling through social media to see if you share their politic biases & happen to be an artist. It's not about talent. Just waiting for them to pick you because you agree with their talking points.

I guess I just should wait until Disney purges all the current Marvel staff somehow and hire people who actually give a fuck about quality. It may never happen tho.

Gantz was the first manga I've ever read. I loved the backgrounds and how they contrasted with the alien fights.
Then I realized most other mangas used the exact same backgrounds not because an specific atmosphere was being used but because they were a bunch of lazy fucks who didn't want to make actual effort on actual backgrounds.

Unlike western artists, at least many mangakas have an excuse of having to churn out 20 pages every week.
What certainly does not help in case of Gantz, is that Oku dumped a ton of money into creating CGI business back in 90s. He was hoping to transform how manga and anime are being made and get rich off of it. That did not work out too well, so he resorted to using 3D models to set up panels and to run them through filters and trace things.
Oku's obsession with CGI is why Gantz is much notorious and reliant on 3D models compared to other manga. This makes it hard to read especially when you are an artfag. Gantz has some good ideas and creative designs, but art borderline ruins it.
