I love this place but I wonder if we are hindered by association with 8chan as a whole. We have traffic because we're connected, but would it be worth starting an entirely new imageboard just for a Christian board? Or move to a worksafe only site (if there is one)?

What are the pros and cons?

What witty name would you call it?

It's gotta be called Christchan.org obviously

I'm going to say that I like this idea, Christians do need a place where we can talk anonymously with free speech. There are so many aspects of our faith that is politically incorrect and taboo and a place like this would really help bring together Christians who are separate from the world and would be persecuted by the world for our beliefs.

It would also help discussions in Chruch - which have beome politically correct and phony in a lot of cases.

The cons are.

1. It would be hard to get enough users to fill more than one board- the truth is a lot of Christianity is week because we've lost our subversive edge. Christianity is becoming rebellious again in standing against things like gender theory, but the large majority of church going boomers go to church because they see it as socially appropriate. So it would have to be a small Christian fellowship and it would be hard to get members. The good part is in getting users, you kinda preselect for genuine Christians rather than people who are doing it for the socially acceptable angle. I guess initial user base would have to be from the chans and maybe gotten through advertising on chans but it would be

hard to grow from there

2. it would be hard to get sponsors. Running imageboards is expensive and it would be hard to get people to put money towards a Christian image board that is based on free speech. Christian businesses are largely show Christians and won't welcome free speech. It would have to be paid for mostly through a patreon like system or by having an online store attach to the forum like bodybuilding forums selling KJV online bibles or something. . . that said the people who frequent chan boards usually aren't the sorts with money to spare

3. It would be hard to get and keep good moderation.

Other than the business aspects, seems like a good idae

Duplicate thread, and all you'll end up with is a dead imageboard.

I donno I guess it depends on the web server, I'm spending about 50 $ a month for web hosting now with AWS on a small low traffic website with only a few images, I imagine it would be quite a bit more to host images.

Honestly it's the image part that would make it expensive, and it's really not 10% necessary for Christian forums.

Might be better to just have an anonymous Christian discussion forum without the images. The downside to that of course being that it'll be hard to attract the chan crowd - but I suppose you can pay tribute to the free speech and anonymity aspects of chan without requiring images

but more than anything to work today and gain users, it would have to allow for and cater to mobile posting

So I think designing anonymous Christian talk and working up from there might be better than just doing a chan clone

You could even advertising it by going around to local churches and asking permission to put it on the church wall or bulletin

that might work

something like that might be really cheap to put up as a prototype host. I know some cloud hosts let you put up something for free for a year and there are programs that let you create a forum out of nothing - heck php has evolved so much now days you could probably even create a forum with php so it would be more lightweight than the software you linked

here is the link I found for an anonymous forum template using PHP

http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/web/wakaba_kareha

please keep us posted if you decide to go ahead with this. I'm interested in this project

it's $200/mo starting

200 euros/ mth range seems pretty cheap for a dedicated server

but I don't see why you would need a dedicated server to start out. To start, use a cloud server from Amazon web services, google cloud or microsoft azure (although azure is on the pricier side still) The tech they have now lets you create a virtual server without too much worry of downtime or unreliability while still giving you plenty of control like you would get with a regular server (although I've had issues accessing my Amazon Web Server with SSH).

Free speech is necessary but for Christian content - you don't need the full spectrum of free speech web hosting that regular chans might. Religious based homophobia would probably be allowed on Google could seeing as pastor Steve Anderson is allowed to post on youtube - and he's about as offensive as a real Christian could get.

They might start cracking down once you get bigger but you can always migrate to a free web host then and take advantage of these guy's low cost web hosting in the meantime

Still standing by my intial suggestion of strating off with AWS or google cloud and wait for them to ban you to get a new web host (the publicity will be good too and I think there's a pretty good chance they won't ban you)

but if you are insistent on getting a free speech host from the beginning theres

https://www.nearlyfreespeech.net

https://www.vivalarevolution.com/#

https://www.bahnhof.net/page/about (these are the guys who host wikileaks)

that said, they all advertise as "free speech" but we would be considered hate speech and they might take a different view to us - I know daily stormer has had a very difficult time keeping a web host. . . and the stuff they say about Jews and other races is nothing close to what we believe about LGBT

still looking into a free speech based web host that would accept hate speech against LGBT

apparently Dreamhost hosts the North West Front, National VAnguard other far right sites, but they kicked off the daily stormer so . . .

But yeah . . . daily stormer's hosting issues were ridiculous and shows just how much speech is controlled on the internet

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Daily_Stormer#Site_hosting_issues_after_the_2017_Unite_the_Right_rally

But I think you should deal with those huge hosting quagmires as they come, the way daily stormer did rather than shelling out tons of dough up front to try and deal with it, because even the most supposedly "free speech" hosts will get rid of you if they start falling victim to DDOS attacks or get negative press

Torposting is very valuable, even if underutilized here. That would be a good thing to continue in a new board for the sake of those on the mission field.

It's painfully obvious why there can never be a truly exclusively Christian board. Christchannel was delivering on that, but as soon as 8chan/8kun sprung back to life, they migrated back here in droves, and have left christchannel a ghost town.

People prefer comfort, familiarity and their old archived posts, to change, risk and starting anew.

I could say that it just disappointing me, that when given the choice between a board that could possibly be a clean break from the more toxic aspects of anonymous image board culture, chirstanons chose to willingly run back to vomit (and vomit that may be heavily monitored and compromised in the aftermath of what went down.)

Then again, ultimately anonymous image board culture clearly followed them to christchannel. There wasn't much of a difference in quality at all. So I suppose I can't blame them for just coming back to the vomit they know.
