Just watched this for the first time, have you guys seen it? What do you think of all the crosses and religious symbolism? The name itself Neon Genesis Evangelion literally means "Gospel of a New Creation", that's gotta mean something significant, right?

Stop trying to inject meaning into it. Its use of religious symbolism is pointless and ascribes more to this weird Gnostic/Buddhist philosophy than anything Christian. There's this weird mix of religious symbolism from Mystic Judaism and Christianity but it doesn't really mean anything other than supporting the plot in some secondary way.

You should not be watching it. I hope you're not using symbolism to justify watching this stuff. I watched it before I came to Christ, not doing it again. It's bad for you man. Take a look at what you consume and see if it truly glorifies the Lord.

The story revolves around an occult brotherhood trying to escape from the current plane of existence. The two symbols you see in the opening are the Qliphoth and the Sefirot diagrams. Without getting into the details, they are essentially the map of how they plan to 'escape' God, who they believe is not the true God. It is essentially a story about the people who run the world manipulating things behind the scenes to bring about their goal, SELEE is just the name in the story used to represent them.

Unfortunately in real life, '♄hey' don't have a single organization you can point to and say, "that's ♄hem!" but there is a common denominator between all of '♄hem' that you could point to ;).

I wouldn't worry about it too much, they think they can defeat God and they will be proven wrong. We, the meek, are far better off then those rich pedophiles and their 'enlightenment'. If you want a Christian message from EVA it would be that the angels are the good guys sent by God to punish the bad guys but overall, it is not a Christian story, it's a Kabbalistic one.

What a waste. OP could've made this post in the Christian Anime general. There's already discussion of Eva in there IIRC. Now this will just be another thread with less than 10 posts.
