Witchcraft and sorcery exists in the Old Testament. It is reasonable to think this is the effect of demon possession, based on exorcisms in the new testament.

However, the sacralist emperor Charlemagne, in an attempt at Christianizing the Saxons, brought about the council of Paderborn denied the existence of witchcraft and ordered execution for witch hunters.

It also commanded infant baptism.

As we can see, sometimes the official position is wrong because political centralization breeds corruption.

All of the following are related together in the same category Biblically. Divination and observing of times, enchanting, witchcraft, suggestion, sorcery, drug dealing (Galatians 5:20), also closely associated to idol worshipping and specifically the act of child sacrifice to idols. They cause their children to pass through the fire because of the idols. We see the same things being practiced today by certain political groups, who are also anti-Bible and anti-God. Their propaganda and repeating a lie over and over, and the act of gaslighting, can be seen as sorcery.

We can draw on this association of practices from the main passage in Deuteronomy, as well as the descriptions given of the wicked practice of Manasseh in Kings and Chronicles. The same condemnation and disdain is placed on these by the Lord in the Bible.

Isaiah 47

9 But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments.

10 For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me.

11 Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.

12 Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail.

13 Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.

14 Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.

>ometimes the official position is wrong

The Holy spirit through scripture says the church is 'the pillar and foundation of truth'(Timothy 3:15 ), Charlemagne isnt the church so he can put out false teaching.

Witchcraft exists says the pillar and foundation of truth.

Infant baptism is to be done says the pillar and foundation of truth.

>Charlemagne had eighteen children with eight of his ten known wives or concubines.

Some concubine could be a witch and convince him to do that.

Like Solomon faltering by allowing worship of foreign gods due to having foreign wives.

That's not "official" in the first place. The Carolingians were upstarts and their own thing. Their influence and ambition were a big part why the Western church eventually schismed from the Orthodox and the Eastern empire as a whole. The Frankfurt Carolingians were the main party who badgered Rome to add the filioque to the Nicene Creed. An addition Rome never approved when the Creed was first made. The Orthodox had settled on the West using it, but that wasn't good enough for the Franks. They demanded outright excommunication of Byzantine bishops for not saying the Creed like they did. Rome tried to play the middle for at least hundred years, but politics finally won over and the Franks finally found a pope who would do their bidding. That's the legacy of the Franks. There's nothing "official" about them.

They also believed in other bizarre ideas that shaped later Roman Catholicism. Like pagan derived "body part" rituals. "Hearts" of the emperors and other nobles being showcased in processions. This eventually led to new teachings on the "sacred heart" of Jesus, thereby disembodying Jesus, who was never disembodied but a whole person. The theological implications of doing this are more strange than it first appears.

Also, just to add, it wasn't long after the Schism that the French turned on Rome itself. They installed their own Popes (the Avignon Papacy) and had a slew of French leaders who treated Rome like dirt. Eventually, the French king even tortured the most based Catholics of all: the Templars. Almost all of the things that are bizarre or awful about the Western church is because of the Franks. Even against the Vatican itself at times.

Source? Executing witch hunters seems to be a very counter-productive action if one's goal is to convert a nation of pagans known to lend their ears to soothsayers and sorcerers. Surely the decree must have been to execute witches, and you have misread it, or if it does say that this would presumably be a result of textual corruption and the original referred to witches.

When you say the pillar and foundation of the truth, you are referring to yourself. The church follows the Holy Bible and disagrees with many of the things you personally think. Yes, witchcraft exists. However, infant baptism is not in sacred Scripture. To the church which is the pillar and ground of the truth, Scripture is the final authority for faith and practice.

>Eventually, the French king even tortured the most based Catholics of all: the Templars.

You have got to be kidding me right now.

All along, the church was the people who were being killed en masse and martyred for following Biblical baptism and ignoring state churches altogether.
