Why do Baptists tend to be so low IQ? I mean, I actually guess it make sense, given how s— their theology is. Only someone with a low IQ would believe that. But why do they have to be so low IQ?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religiosity_and_intelligence#Studies_comparing_religious_belief_and_IQ
"In a 2013 meta-analysis of 63 studies, led by professor Miron Zuckerman, a correlation of -.20 to -.25 between religiosity and IQ was particularly strong when assessing beliefs (which in their view reflects intrinsic religiosity),…"
It basically comes down to being more about conforming to a cult, and less about actually researching and understanding the faith.
I've been an active Christian for 3 years and was raised in the church. The smart Christians I know don't go to church and do not make effort to congregate specifically with other Christians. These are the people who have libraries of books on their religion and spend a lot of time researching and in prayer.
The other camp, "ideal" Christians who are heavily involved in their respective church community and always thumping their bible are predominately not college-educated and fall victim to disinformation campaigns.

So basically you are saying that Baptists are less indoctrinated into liberalism, secularism, and egalitarianism? What the heck, I love Baptists now!

Baptists tend to be low in openness to experience (in accordance with the five factor personality model). Those who are low in openness tend to be less intelligent and thus have lower IQs.

It's a "chicken or the egg" question. Does the bepist church make you dumb? Or does bepist theology only appeal to low IQ individuals. I tend to lean toward the latter. The Church has a long and complex history and that can be daunting for your average Amerimonkey so the bepist church has boiled all of Christian teaching down to a single verse, John 3:16. The idea that as long as you believe in Jesus you can do whatever you want and behave however you please and still go to heaven is both very comforting and simple. In addition it requires little to no devotion on the believer's part and asserts that God will do everything for you and make your life easy because God is our servant, not our King.

As sad as that is, these are all things any Baptist can grow out of. They're not stuck there, and I don't think they're inherently destined to be there because of a lack of intelligence. In fact, since they are usually dedicated bible readers, it's almost inevitable that they can't deny the notion of Sanctification in the life of a Christian and this simplified view on faith doesn't line up. The more they read the scriptures for themselves, the harder it becomes to deny. Not even Calvin or the Puritans, with all of their emphasis on God's sovereignty, were so cavalier with the notion of Sanctification.

I think you're right. A lot of people in America, for example, who are first introduced to Christianity are introduced to the Baptist/Evangelical type since they're the most prolific when it comes to actually evangelizing and doing revivals and preaching. But a lot of these people who end up becoming dedicated to the faith, when they actually study the scriptures and see just how out of line Baptist theology is with the teachings of the Bible and the historic doctrines of the Christian faith, they move towards a much more mature version of Christianity. It's really the Fundamentalists types who are low IQ. People with lower intelligence tend to shift towards Fundamentalism not because it has anything to do with religious belief, but because people with lower IQs actually have a harder time even comprehending religion, so they often will read the Bible in an overly literalistic way and promote a very simplified version of the faith since they can't see any of the nuance contained within the scriptures and the historic Christian faith. Then of course there are also those who just kinda grew up in the faith and continue to practice it because it's what their parents practiced without actually examining it on any serious level, but this happens with pretty much all religions.

Probably because the bar for being a baptist theologian is set so low. Could also be that Apostolic Christians don't rely on secular institutions for their theology.

Also Mormons have their own high level universities too with top level academics in all fields, including theology. Doesn't take away from the fact that their beliefs are absolutely ridiculous.

I live in Texas. Both they and Roman Catholicism were my first exposure to Christianity. And indeed, I was friends with two brothers who took the whole OSAS thing at heart. I don't want to judge them and hope they changed, but when I became a Christian, it was pretty disheartening to see the lifestyles they led, while claiming to know Christ who I just first discovered. I felt worlds apart from them, and just more isolated. I felt convicted of all of my old ways, stopped drugs, changed my outlook on many things like sex (before marriage), etc.. But these guys thought nothing of it, and I learned soon enough that I shouldn't go to their church, and would get little guidance from them or our same age peers from that church. Their poor mother was a more decent example of a Baptist, but naive. She would have had a heart attack if she knew what her sons were up to.
