>which does specifically say "gehenna" (look at the interlinear)
The Luke passage here uses hades. >>848297 The terms are interchangeable, despite what modernists want to tell you who deny hell.
People just really want to deny hell so obviously this kind of attack was coming. They try to pretend the words are different and supply their own false definitions, while ignoring the fact they are interchangeable.
>This then corresponds with the Lake of Fire.
The lake of fire is in the end-times, the main difference is it lasts forever. Hell is still a place of fiery torment, see the Luke passage linked to above in Luke 16. There's no denying it when you actually look at the scriptures and not listen to modern "scholars" who are liars and deceivers in disguise.
They teach what people want to hear and that's how they receive their support. The scripture stands against them, as delineated above.
>Hell is often considered to be a place where God's presence is Not.
There is no scripture reference for this, so I'm going to say false.
Psalm 139:8
If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
>Therefore, since it is divorced from the source of existence, it hardly exists.
Your premise was proven false, so your conclusion naturally is false, as you cannot deny that it exists in this way. Nor can you deny it by trying to separate and redefine the words when they are interchangeable and they all refer to the same thing if you are being intellectually honest.
>Hell has never been a fantastic incentive towards faithfulness.
How do you know this? Every scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. How do you know what parts of scripture are not effective more than others?
Many people are more concerned with trying to distance themselves from false stereotypes rather than proclaim the truth. They are afraid of being called names so they compromise on telling the truth.
Luke 9:26
For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.
