This one neat trick solves 99% of challenges to scripture
When someone claims the bible is in error or in contradiction, they have to prove that the passage in question necessarily teaches what they are interpreting, then demonstrate that it is false or internally contradictory
You do not have to convince them of the correct reading, or even disprove that their reading is reasonable. You only have to demonstrate that there is a possible reading which does not put the text in error.

It seems that you don't understand basic English idiom. Is English not your native language? Jesus means to not physically fight back when evil is done to you.
In any case, the whole church has known this for 2000 years, regardless of language. Just because you have a learning disability doesn't mean the meaning suddenly changed.

You'll have better success helping those struggling with their faith to keep their faith.
