The Brothers Karamazov is one of my favorite works of fiction. Within that book is a short story called the Grand Inquisitor which provides an interesting commentary on the temptation of Christ and the Catholic movement. It's worth a read if you can spare the time.

I liked his anti-theodicy in the chapter about Ivan's devil, it's similar to Kierkegaard's arguments if you desire non-fiction on the subject.
